The trailer for Final Fantasy XV is up. I'm on my phone so I don't have a link handy. I fanboyed all over myself though. The graphics are unbelievable, and uncanny valley stuff. There is driving involved and the classic FF theme plays at the end of the trailer.
So you drive around a car and the combat is Dragon Age II. Hmm.

I've come so close to just paying $40 and buying another copy of Curtain Call like a dozen times already. Fuck this fucking fuck fucky shipping.

As to FFXIII, I'm probably the only one who wanted a PC port, but I'm glad to get it. It'll be nice to play through again and enjoy the game but not have to grind experience or item drops because I can use a cheat program on PC. That's one of the things I don't like about the modern era of consoles is the lack of cheat devices. It's nice to be able to enjoy a games story for the 7th time without having to grind levels and money and such.

Because the Square Enix store was the only place to get the collectors edition. Otherwise I would have pre ordered somewhere that could guarantee I get it fat 1 and I'd have 30 hours into it already.

Screw that if a tree falls in the forest shit. The real riddle is: if a package ships on the 9th with 5-7 day shipping, then is listed as expected to be delivered on the 27th, then arrives on the 24th, is it late or early?

Is that why the board's been so dead recently, everyone's playing FF15? Tell us your opinions on the game.

Sorry, my time machine that let's me go to the future and play FFXV doesn't allow me to post to the past. Hopefully they add that feature soon.

Theatrhythm Curtain Call is a fucking blast though.

The Steam version of FFXIII is 50 gb. Using my internet connection for nothing but downloading that game it's going to take over 24 hours. If I find they replaced the music with midi shit like FFVII and FFVIII I riot.

So I've learmed that getting a good score on Ultimate levels in Theatrhythm is fucking impossible with just the stylus. How fast do they expect me to swipe?

I also, because of this game, watched all of FFVII: Advent Children last night (One Winged Angel with sick drums and guitar FTW).

And I liked it.

Advent Children makes no sense. And it's glorious.

It's kind of puzzling the range of difficulty on ultimate scores. Some I can do with my eyes closed. Others I'm using a party of level 99s with healing spells and items just to finish.

Do you use the game pad style for the field levels? I have to use the stylus on those because I always always fuck up the held notes that end with a swipe. I just can't do it right with the circle pad. Battle stages I've become a big fan of game pad play though.

I've actually been all stylus so far, which is great for the field songs but I'm starting to think buttons is good for the faster paced battle songs.

I just don't get it. A remake of this game is pretty much a license to print money. Are they really this thick??

Someone needs to get Adam Boyes & Geo Corsi in a room with these Square Enix guys to slap some sense into them. None of this tried and true Japanese "please understand" bullshit.

The footage implies that it's got an MMO-style combat engine, like FF12 had. If that's true, then I'm out. I like my Final Fantasy turn-based, thankuvermuch.

Phew, another thing I can stop being excited for. It's easier this way rather than being let down at release.

Hopefully Final Fantasy XV is decent.

They said the data size was so big they had to split it into several titles. Whatever that means, but I don't believe that at all. When I saw that trailer, I was sort of expecting something like that given that they only showed stuff from the very beginning of the game. To have cutscenes like in the trailer instead of text based conversations seems like it would make the timescale for completing the game far longer than people wanted it to be, and that's probably a problem.

It's not good, but people were begging them to make this game, so they probably think it's worth it to maximize their cash return too. I'll wait for the whole thing just as I wait for most games these days, so I don't really mind. When people said "take my money" for this, I kind of meant that literally. I have no problem paying some more for the original game plus added content, which is what they said it would be.

As for the combat, they're probably using the same engine and in some cases the same models as they're using in XV, so it wouldn't be very profitable for them to change things. XV makes this game easier to develop.

So, if it is episodic, I'll wait until it's all compiled/completed (hopefully on disc) before I buy it, then..

Personally the combat looks like Kingdom Hearts to me. Which I'd be a-okay with. As long as the camera works.

I think that by them going episodic, they are going to make you people to see and do as much as you can in the areas that you do get to play in. As 909 said, they need to make their moneys worth.

You can also pretty much know how it would likely be broken up. The first story would likely be all of Midgard itself and up until the highway chase seen when they leave Midgard. The next story would be the journey from outside of Midgard all the way to Junon. After that would be up to the Golden Saucer and so forth.

They definitely want to maximize their return, but we could perhaps benefit if each section provides tons of things to do. This could bomb or be fantastic.

If you are waiting for it to drop on disc Empty, you are going to have to wait for a long while. If it is broken down like how I have it, it'll be at least 2 years before that happens. Unless they release them like month after month. Though that's a possibility depending on how far into production they are.

Yeah, that's a good point. Though I do want this game physically, so I'm willing to wait. Plus I've never actually played this game, so I can wait a bit longer - even if it is 2 years. ;)

Also: http://kotaku.com/why-the-final-fantasy-vii-remake-will-be-split-up-1746598619

Square Enix is doing more than just remaking Final Fantasy VII. It sounds like FFVII will be episodic. You might have questions about this. Square Enix might even have answers.

“From the beginning, we thought a Final Fantasy VII remake would be bigger than a single release,” the game’s original director Yoshinori Kitase told Dengeki Online.

“If you did get it into a single release, there would be things we’d have to put into a shortened compilation,” Tetsuya Nomura, FFVII’s character designer, added. “Since we thought there would be stuff we would probably have to pare down and supplemental things we probably couldn’t add, we decided to divide it up, concluding that we have to do a remake that’s fully packed with content.”

Kitase added that with the Sector 1 and Sector 8 areas shown in the most recent trailer are quite dense. “If we took everything that’s in the original game and remade it at that quality, we couldn’t get it all on a single release,” said Kitase.

The Final Fantasy VII director explained that since they won’t be dividing up the game, the substance of the original won’t be cut, and Square Enix can then take that substance and do a full-on remake.

Earlier this year, Square Enix said that the Final Fantasy VII remake would not be exactly the same as the original game. Square Enix wasn’t kidding.

This is an interesting experiment and you know if it succeeds, we could have more games like that. Broken into pieces, sold as a "complete" experience per episode. If each area allows it to be a game itself, it would be interesting as hell. Expensive, but interesting.

Also then the company could release a "compilation" of the series with some bonuses and other junk when it is finished. So you probably are right to hold off.

Though this game is going to take up a huge amount of space ... if it comes to PC.

I've bought final fantasy vii on every platform it's been released on. Who would have thought a near 20 year old game would still captivate me. Them feels for the aerith theme <3.
