I liked the idea and brief shots of Vegnagun, until you realize its just a mountain-sized mechanical moth. I'll agree the gameplay was pretty nice though.

??? You know I hadn't thought about it. Its even weirder that it hasn't had anything done to it since it was a commercial success of nearly 6 million copies sold and is the highest scored game on Metacritic in the series.

...wait, seriously? This is the highest rated game? I'll be damned it is too. Probably don't want to mess with perfection.

I finally got around to playing the remade GBA version of FFI. And holy shit, is it tons of fun. It fixes EVERY one of the infamous old problems with the original game: no more spending an hour just tediously buying your equipment, no more wasting attacks on already-dead enemies, no more wondering what the hell something does before you have to buy it and try it out, status ailments don't happen to you nearly as often, the magic point system has been completely redone and improved, you can finally use Phoenix Downs to revive dead party members in the field, and the grinding between levels has been INCREDIBLY shortened. Starting the game and getting all the way to the Earth Cave took me a mere three hours! Admittedly, that's with using a hack on my emulator that lets you press a button and fast-forward the game at double speed whenever you want to, but still, that's amazingly quick.

I liked how the game rewarded you with the more you completed. My first playthrough resulted in vegnagun destroying spira.

IIRC wasn't that just a matter of how long it took you to defeat it? I'm pretty sure % of completion only affected getting the two extra endings. And hell I think it was basically 'do a couple certain things during the game and % doesn't even matter' to get one of them, and to get the extra extra scene you needed 100%.

I've no idea. Been so long since I've played it. I likes the subtlety of having to whistle for tidies when in the far plane if you wanted to build towards the good endings. Or you could choose to move on.

Toriyama said that they increased Lightning's breast size for "some reason" (and jiggle physics). There was also something about trying to beat Skyrim. Why Skyrim? No idea.

So about the only thing that I can think is both rational, in that it can occur, and why the fuck would do that: is she's pregnant. I meant her having larger breasts, not beating out Skyrim.

:-\ I mean, really?

Beat Skyrim? What a random thing to say. Is this a lost in translation thing, maybe? Like he wants to compete with Skyrim (size, etc) or did he actually mean beat the game in some way.. Sales? Scope?

It was defeat and not beat that I should've used. So yes, he wants to just outdo Skyrim in all fashions. Sales, scope, etc. Its not happening, but hey, a man can dream...

And it includes bigger boobs!

Why doesn't "beat Skyrim" make sense? It seems pretty obvious: "we want to out-do and out-sell the most popular console-based RPG that's currently dominating the market". Just look at gamefags.com's front page, Skyrim is listed THREE different times in the "current Top Ten" section. What the hell else would Squeenix be trying to beat, the latest installment of Wizardry?

I doesn't "make sense" because it's just a dumb comment to make. They should be worrying about cleaning up their own messes before they start trying to make remarks like that regarding other franchises. It's one thing to say that you're aspiring to be more like that kind of game, it's another to say you want to "beat/defeat" it.. and SE is in no position to making the latter claim.

They should go back to what worked, namely the old ATB system and style of the SNES and PS1 games. Not trying to make a second-rate Elder Scrolls clone.

They should, but they won't because they think everyone wants what Skyrim has because it sells like hotcakes. Though, since they seem to be using the Kingdom Hearts battle system for FFXV, I can at least get behind that as I don't mind that.

FFVII on Steam now has the PS soundtrack instead of MIDI files. Start up Steam and it will download automatically.

If this is the case I'll have this game at launch. I'm so bored of turn based :(

Bored of turn based? Where are you finding all these turn based games to bore you? I haven't played one in years!

The vita version of X remastered will come with a digital download of X-2. I guess someone realized that next to nobody was going to buy X-2 by itself.

So, I've been reading people talking about the Japanese version of the X/X-2 remaster. Apparently a scene was added to the end of X-2 indicating...

Sin has returned, and X-3 is imminent.

I'm about to bust a nut looking for confirmation of this. I don't care that it doesn't make sense
with Yu Yevon being killed at the end of X. I NEED this to happen!

Shit, everything comes out in March!
If you aren't comfortable releasing a title in November/December, you release it in March. By March, everyone's recovered from the Christmas period, so wallets are open season by then.

I swear though if that first spoiler you posted is true, any thoughts of me buying this remaster just went out the window.

The Lightning Returns demo is up on PSN and XBox Live today. I'm very intrigued with the story thus far but the demo really left a lot to be desired.

Anyone playing Lightning Returns yet? My fiance gave it to me for our anniversary and I've enjoyed it so far. Lots of interesting twists and turns and the combat system is pretty fun. I honestly haven't seen much use of walking around during combat though.

I've done the opening part up to where you get to the Ark but that's it so far.

I just about busted a nut when
Caius
showed up. At least the explanation as to why made sense.

There's a lot of nut talk on this page.

I dug out a few of my old PS1 games and was thinking about going through a few of the older FFs. I remember almost nothing about FFIX except Vivi the Mage and an underwhelming villain, but I also remember it being pretty fun. Worth a replay/does it hold up?

I played in on the PSP a couple of years ago. I still think it holds up. The last really good Final Fantasy game (not counting the spinoff Crisis Core).
