Almost tempted to get this on Steam just for that, but I already re-purchased this on PSN a few months back. Looks awesome though.

I started Final Fantasy 6 for the very first time tonight. Mechs! Sold on this game already.

It's fine. That was the initial hook, but I'm still having fun with it. Haven't really been in a gaming mood lately but I had a sudden urge to play an old school RPG today and this does the trick.

Finally finished my FFV Four Job Fiesta this past weekend, and now doing run 2. This was my first playthrough of FFV so now I just lack 3, 8, 9, 11, finishing 12, 13, 14 and apparently 15. Damn.

I don't count the online ones in the sequential games, since how you do 'complete' an MMO? Using that criteria I still need to knock off 2, 5, and 12 (though I got to the final dungeon of 12 and just never finished for some reason).

I've beaten FF 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10. I played a bit of 11 but have played nothing after that.
I do have a PS3 so I can go back and download some of the classics, but is anything past 10 worth seeking out?

XII is actually my favorite of the entire series (followed by IV and IX), so I'd say it's worth playing. XIII is...not.

Whatever you do Dama, don't play XIII. Its just a colossal mess of a game. XII is a like it or hate it game. I couldn't really stand it, myself. Though I love Ivalice.

I liked XIII but I acknowledge it's flaws and don't recommend it to people. XIII-2 though I do recommend. it still doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but it's more accessible and keeps the cool combat system.

I love 12. Great story about war and politics. I hope it gets a PSN release. Lent it out years ago. Haven't seen it since.

XII is by far my favourite of the main sequence games of the post-PS1 era. XIII is terrible.

Of the non-main sequence games, Crisis Core is really the only one worth playing. I really liked that one as well.

Is the main complaint about XIII the linearity? I would hate that.

I remember being soured on XII and not wanting to play it back in the day because the battle system looked like an extreme departure from the turn based combat I know and love.

I've given XII a legit effort about 4 times now, and I can't get into it at all. I really wanted to like it too.

I think everyone would've loved XIII if you didn't need the encyclopedia in the game to understand most of the plot. A good game allows you to absorb all this information on the go. Encyclopedia's are supposed to be there if you want extra information that has no bearing on the plo. The problem was I had to bust that information out of the encyclopedia time and time again. It was frustrating. I'm really hoping XV's is just straight forward. It would be nice.
That's everyone's problem. You can have a linear game and still play out well. Do the above + linear? Its a chore and feels like the worst thing possible.

I think with XII it was just more that the game didn't really stand out for me. Sure a lot of things were done well, but nothing really stood out. ...okay, Balthier, who I still insist should've been the main character, but that's about it. Its not a title I'd recommend, but at the same time its not a title I'll tell everyone to avoid like I would XIII or VIII.

:-\ No, sadly the main protagonist is Vaan. The "leading man" is Balthier though. Until Revenant Wings, in which Vaan acquires it.

I was being half-sarcastic. Yes, I know Vaan was officially the 'main character' but he did very little after about the first hour of the game and you aren't forced into using him for the vast majority of the game either.

Both 12 and 13 have their flaws, but they're completely different flaws. 12 is trying too hard to be a WoW-style engine, is too open-ended, half the lead characters are anonymous ciphers with no real connection to the main story, and the grinding takes forever even by Final Fantasy standards. 13 has practically no open-endedness, is literally one straight line until far too near the end of the game, seems to be trying to revive FF X-2's combat engine, and even though it's trying for a somewhat smaller, more personal plot than the last couple of games the story is still ludicrously overcomplex. I bought both of 'em, basically because of brand loyalty, but rarely play 'em.

Strange semi-related note: I happened to boot up ol' Secret of Evermore for the first time since the 90s. Wow, that game is incredibly underrated in one aspect: it's got GREAT graphics for the time, seriously the best and most detailed that Square ever did on the SNES. But then I start the actual game, and yeah, it's still a half-assed Secret of Mana knockoff once the action begins.

Speaking of Mana, what the hell happened to that series? Secret of Mana was an all-time classic, and then the sequel was even better but never released in North America. They have released a ton of games since, none of which are even a fraction of the quality of those two.

Though this isn't really the right thread for this... Basically, the Mana series can be divided into two separate series. The first series is the Sword of Mana series. It has the Sword of Mana (Final Fantasy Adventure), Secret of Mana, Stones of Mana (Secret of Mana 2/Seiken Densetsu 3), Legend of Mana and Sword of Mana Remake (Sword of Mana GBA).

Afterwards comes the World of Mana series and when you can tell Squaresoft/SquareEnix begins to fall apart. The 5 titles in this series are Children of Mana, Friends of Mana, Dawn of Mana, Heroes of Mana, and Circle of Mana. Its also when the series tried experimenting instead of staying true to its elements that made it great. That's pretty much why the series hasn't been as good after Sword of Mana's remake.

The best games in the series are actually the original 3. The best game in the series is probably Stones of Mana. Now if you are wondering why I call it Stones of Mana instead of Secret of Mana 2 or Seiken Densetsu 3, is because if it was brought over, I think it would've went with that as a title since its the main focus of that game. Heroes of Mana is the prequel and only game to have a chronological relationship with another game.

If we want to be technical, December 31st is normally used to associate with just any unconfirmed release date in that year. Until its changed. Thing is though, this year, December 31st is actually a Tuesday, so it could very well be the legitimate date. I'm treating it as such unless they change the release date to something outside of December.

Why bother to remaster X-2 as well? Didn't EVERYONE hate that game? Seems like more effort than it's worth.

The 30 minute extra after you beat the game is probably going to set up X-2 better or something. Maybe.

The gameplay in X-2 was pretty good. Possibly my favourite since IX, not counting the Kingdom Hearts-esque Crisis Core. The story sucked though, so I understand why people don't like it.

There were really too many damn dress spheres, it gave us more options than we needed. Too many of 'em were basically palette-swaps of each other with only minor differences papered over.
