Meltz is going high and mighty on the WWE for using the bloody mouth angle last night since Vince had the gall to chastise AEW for the bloody matches with Dustin and Moxley.

He's also sprung wood for AEW possibly/probably selling out a 5000 seat arena for the first TV since TNA drew 100, RAW #1 had 1100 and Nitro was a free show.

Wait, isn’t AEW running the Wizards’ arena for that show in October? They are going to need to sell a lot more than 5,000 tix to fill that building up unless they tarp off the upper deck. (And from the looks of the seating chart, they aren’t)

He wasn't even the only one bringing that up, hell he wasn't even the first person to mention it, that I saw. But I guess if everyone's going to pick apart every little thing he says, might as well jump on that.

I think the better response to Vince going the "they're blood and guts" route is for fans to collectively say "yes, that's what we fucking want."

To be honest I thought the entire argument was one of the dumbest things I've ever seen on the internet. Guy bites his tongue and some blood comes out and Meltzer (AEW PR) instantly brings up the blood and guts argument.

It's quite tiresome.

It also wasn't some "little thing" he said, it was giant Meltzer special of getting super anal and arguing with all-comers. Dave is a twitter troll. He knew he'd get that reaction and it is what he wanted. It's why he spends more time responding to idiots than to real questions.

Regarding the stuff on the blackboard in the background on yesterday's Road To show, the Harrington dress code was about Chris Harrington, the Vice President of Business Strategy and his wearing a hat with his suit at the live events. Chad Glenn is the company's Director of Finance. They were just inside jokes.

Thanks, Dave. The three people who cared appreciate the clarification.

Except he's been talking about him for a while now. He even mentioned that Vikingo would have been the third wrestler instead of Laredo Kid if he had his Visa in time for Fyter Fest. Vikingo has had some amazing matches this year.

But who is saying that Dave hadn't talked about him before? It's that the spot takes forever to setup and the ref is having to hold the rope for him. Dave has a fetish for gymnastic spots. Watching that show there were a half dozen guys more impressive than Vikingo. and two of them were in their 50s.

The technico ref holding him up there is part of the deal in Mexico. The ropes are absolutely shitty.

Looks no less contrived than the majority of spots I see from the bulk of pro wrestling companies these days, honestly.

There's nothing specific about that spot that bothers me. Like 909 said, technico ref help happens sometimes even when the wrestler doesn't need it. Needing to grab the ref's hand a second time didn't look great, though. On the flip side, there's absolutely nothing special about the spot either. It's not something I'd be super amazed at if I saw it in WWE.

I'm with tek. That spot isn't really impressive but the ref's involvement doesn't really bother me either. People were praising the superplex spot in the Ali/Buddy Murphy match where the ref held the steel stairs in place and the Becky/Charlotte powerbomb spot at Evolution last year where the ref held on to Becky's top so she wouldn't fall. The ref keeping the competitor's safety is part of why they're there.

It's because Meltzer said something positive, so the people that always shit on everything he says will do so no matter what. He could say the sky is blue, and someone in Twitter would cut it out of context and talk about how wrong he is. When he says something stupid, call him out, but it's no matter what he says that people shit on him.

See...that's my problem, I don't watch enough shitty modern wrestling to see the ref helping spots!

I posted an image from an old Apter mag of a (made up) racist Flair promo on my CXF history article this week. It is now flying around wrestling twitter (with no link to us :( ) and even Meltz has commented on it.

Flair defended against Johnson three times in April of '82. Putski is odd. Flair never defended against him. Vince Sr. was cooperating a lot with other promoters in the early '80s, so such a matchup wouldn't be unheard of. But the last Flair/Putski match according to wrestlingdata.com was 1974.

I love Dutch Mantel, but the fact he can't separate Dave saying "people who weren't regulars in the territory thought the territory is a joke" from Dave's actual opinion are why I just tune out most of the people who bitch about Meltzer.

Today his feed has been nothing but "why wasn't Taker-HBK from WM25 five stars" and it's like "either ask real questions or GTFO"

Yeah Dave was saying that at the time a lot of people in the business hated the Memphis style and thought it was a joke. He didn't state that was his personal opinion. Again perfectly fine to criticize Dave (I've done it as well) but people are tripping over themselves to play "gotcha" with him

Imagine having someone this dumb be your PR Defense Force. That show would have had high demand no matter what.
