The Metal Thread - Version 2

Who knew that Lamb of God released a cover of the SOD classic, Kill Yourself? Holy hell, is this bad.

Hey, you know what I think is the best metal album of the year? "Manor of Infinite Forms" by Tomb Mold

Roy Khan, formerly of Kamelot, has reunited with his old band, Conception, for the first time in over 20 years. They have released the first track from their upcoming EP, titled "Grand Again". I like the sound, but the vocal effects are way too overly done here.

So did anyone know (or care) that Static-X is touring this year? I saw an ad for one of their shows in my area on Facebook and my first thought was "I thought the lead singer died". Apparently, they're releasing a new album of the last material they recorded with him and are touring to celebrate the anniversary of their first album. They haven't announced who is taking over vocal duties which is kind of strange.

And it looks like Laz's favorite band DevilDriver is opening for them. The poster made sure to remind everyone that Dez is also the lead singer of Coal Chamber. Trying cling on to their last remaining fans I guess.

No offense, but this probably belongs in the "LOL at Nu Metal" thread

As far as Metal is concerned, "Living Tomb" by Ossuarium is the first great album of the year

Wasn't sure where else to put this, but I hope you find this Slayer/Katrina & the Waves mashup as hilarious as I did.

Only in the black metal scene could such a fucking pussy talk that much shit and not get his jaw broken. Deleting his YouTube is the next best thing, I suppose.

Sean Reinert died

This one hurts. "Human" by Death and "Focus" by Cynic played a huge part in shaping my musical taste, as well as seriously kicking off my love of metal. RIP to one of the best drummers in metal history.

Odious Mortem have not only reformed but released their third full-length, Synesthesia. It may be the best release of theirs so far. If you're into tech death that isn't just noodling on a fretboard and feathers actual riffs? Check them the fuck out.

Erstwhile, in the "bands I got into and of course they just broke up before," Montreal's Bookake straddles that line of overwrought gimmickry and splatstick perfection. They're basically what I wished Aborted had turned into post-Goremageddon instead of the core-flavored death they've become. Two full albums are available, with one having an alternate instrumental version (linked below). I didn't really know that brutal prog could really be a thing, but these guys did it.

This is what I get for looking under "similar artists" on the MA Nevermore page, a new favorite

This morning Czech sent me a jazz radio show because this week said show focused on fusion rock/metal which he knew I'd like. Unsurprisingly, Cynic was included in the mix, and they also played Ohm who I'd heard the name but never really checked out. I went to their wiki article to see they were founded by Chris Poland and longtime Megadeth drummer Nick Menza... then I read that about four years ago Menza went into cardiac arrest shortly into a concert and died later that night, news which somehow completely evaded me until now. I did a board search and looked back in this thread, figuring one of the thread regulars might have posted something somewhere and I just missed it. Nope, nada. It's the kind of thing I would have figured I'd hear about somewhere at that time (or shortly thereafter), the longtime drummer from one of the top US metal acts in the 80s/90s just dying in the middle of a show...

This isn't me saying "How come no one told me about this?!", moreso just an expression of amusement and bemusement how much shit can fly under my radar anymore even in this age of instant communication and all-news-all-the-time

I'm reading Scott Ian's book "I'm the Man" and he talks about how all early thrash bands had terrible cover art for their first albums, including Anthrax's. He's not wrong but I actually liked Kill 'Em All's cover art with the bloody hammer. He listed those two along with Bonded by Blood, Show No Mercy, and Killing is my Business. SNM was especially awful with the big sword and shit.

2020 has seen, or will see, new material from...

Odious Mortem. Ingested. Katalepsy. I Am Destruction. I the Intruder. Katalepsy.

Kamelot released their first official Live Album with Tommy Karevik on vocals, called I Am The Empire, this past Friday. They finally managed to top their 2005 Live Album, One Cold Winter's Night.
