It's the difference between viewing metal as a subculture and just as a form of music. The former seems silly in this day and age, but the latter produces pop bullshit like Babymetal.

Pop bullshit doesn't have to be viewed in a bad light. Drop the fucking "it's not real metal!" bullshit. That means nothing in this day and age, so grow up.

I don't really care either way about Babymetal, but the fact they piss off so many people is kinda hilarious.

Pretty much. The hate that they get is laughable. If they're not your thing, fine. These are a few young girls who love metal and want to add their own spin to it. This is literally the Ospreay/Ricochet of the metal world now.

He just released an entire album of covers, so hopefully he took care of any legal issues.

No, it doesn't. It serves its place. A place that is decidedly the antithesis of what counter-culture music (like heavy metal and punk rock) are supposed to be.
Drop the fucking "it's not real metal!" bullshit. That means nothing in this day and age, so grow up.
I like how quick you are to equate maturity with the acceptance of heartless media. It's cute.

Real talk? This is my stance. They exist, they're a pop group, there's a chance this will lead some down the line into checking out actual metal bands, they don't affect the shows I go to or the stuff I listen to. The beautiful thing about it all is that you don't have to listen to them if you don't want to.
These are a few young girls who love metal and want to add their own spin to it.
None of them listened to metal before the band was formed. It is literally a generic Jpop idol group that decided to do a metal motif.
This is literally the Ospreay/Ricochet of the metal world now.
I think the Ospreay/Ricochet of the metal world now would be all the Unique Leader-style tech/prog death bands. Lots of wankery surrounding the song itself, but there actually is a song under it all, hence why the mounds of negative criticism is more laughable than anything.

Dude, there is no real counter culture music anymore.

Phil Anselmo's filling in for Mike IX (Eyehategod) at GwarBQ.

Phil Anselmo, recently under deserved fire for shouting "WHITE POWER" at a concert and caught on camera, is performing at this year's GwarBQ, a festival put together by the late Dave Brockie (who was vehemently anti-white supremacist).

**sigh**

Anybody listen to any good metal podcasts? I just started getting into Another Metal Podcast, which is aimed more at exposing unsigned/unknown bands, and it's already won me over by introducing me to Ghost Witch. I'm not a big doom guy, but the more goth-flavored vocals and how they feel distanced caught me by surprise.

Fenriz from Darkthrone got elected as a backup representative in his home town. Also, the last Darkthrone album was pretty good. Oh, and this:

Turned 20 two days ago.

Neurosis turned 30 this year and did several shows in San Francisco to commemorate their anniversary. I went to the first night; should have gone to all three. Sure was awesome to hear songs from Pain of Mind and The Word as Law live! One of the best live bands I've ever seen.

The latest (and apparently last) Dillinger Escape Plan album is their best since "Ire Works".

The new Epica is out fucking standing until you hit the last 3 tracks and the album takes a weird acoustic jazz direction.

Septicflesh is one of those bands I need to really be in the mood for. Sometimes I'll be all about Sumerian Daemons and other times I would rather listen to Fleshgod Apocalypse because there's some quality riffage at least.

So the singer from As I Lay Dying allegedly tried to hire an undercover cop to murder his wife:

As I Lay Dying singer Tim Lambesis was arrested Tuesday (May 7) after allegedly soliciting an undercover police officer to have his estranged wife killed.

According to Reuters, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department learned that Lambesis sought an accomplice to kill his wife, and he was taken into custody in Oceanside, California, after reaching out to the detective.

"The information came to us late last week," San Diego County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Jan Caldwell told Reuters. "We acted quickly on it. I believe that we averted a great tragedy."

Lambesis has said he considers himself to be a Christian and acknowledges that he finds inspiration for lyrical content from biblical texts. He is incredibly prolific, having released eight albums with As I Lay Dying between 2001 and 2012, as well as five releases via his solo side project Austrian Death Machine, where he sings and performs on all instruments. He also produced 11 albums for other artists and is part owner of Lambesis Studios.

Representatives from Metal Blade, the record label for As I Lay Dying, were not available for comment. There is no word on whether Lambesis already has an attorney.

In 2008, As I Lay Dying were nominated for the Best Metal Performance Grammy for their song "Nothing Left." As I Lay Dying's 2012 album Awakened peaked at #11 on the Billboard albums chart, while 2010's The Powerless Rise hit #10, and 2007's An Ocean Between Us debuted at #8.

Back in '07, Lambesis talked to MTV News about Ocean and how, lyrically, it deals with the idea that "we no longer have the same dreams as the rest of the world, that all of the qualities of life that it seems we're taught we should focus on, whether it be money or a certain type of education or a certain type of job — the dreams that are handed down to us — it's about how we have nothing in common with those dreams anymore. It's about the whole idea of fulfillment — if you do these things and take these steps, you will be happy — and how really, wealth, the prestige of being in a band, all that stuff is ultimately meaningless."

"Roid Rage" is being blamed for the whole incident.

So this piece of shit is out of prison after only serving two years out of his six year sentence. He's also set to be married again. Who the fuck would wanna marry this lunatic?
