That may be the most uninspired and generic sludge metal song ever.

Did you listen to them back to back?/ that's what makes it even more glaring to me, because Nola was just so GOOD.

Nola is easily the best thing Phil Anselmo's ever done. One of my favorite metal albums ever and it's so memorable and catchy yet heavy. Unlike the boring ass new song you posted.

Nightwish announced this morning that they have fired Anette Olzon and Floor Jansen of Revamp will be their replacement lead vocalist for the remainder of the tour. Anette became very sick last Thursday and had to be hospitalized before their show. Not wanting the cancel the show, the two female vocalists touring with Kamelot (one of which is the Amaranthe vocalist) filled in on the songs they knew and they let the crowd do mass karaoke on the other songs. Anette apparently flew off the deep end because the band didn't ask her permission to use replacement singers. Sounds like someone was developing a Tarja complex.

In even more line-up change news, GWAR has found a new member. Pustulous Maximus, the long-lost cousin of Flattus, is making his GWAR debut in the upcoming Fate Or Chaos tour.

I may have to actually go see them at Rock n' Shock now.

EDIT:
Pustulous' identity is Brent Purgason of Cannabis Corpse. YES.

That's too bad. I'm a big fan of Nightwish and it's too bad that both singers didn't end up working out. I'd almost say fuck it, make it another Marco fronted band and let him do all the vocals.

I would have no problem with this.

So, Gwar last night...yeah...

IT JUST MAY HAVE BEEN ONE OF THE BEST GWAR SHOWS I'VE EVER SEEN. They played a lot of stuff they don't normally do anymore, including "Have You Seen Me?" and "Whargoul" (which closed the show via encore).

EDIT: Also, I was in the pit with this guy.

Oh, he doesn't look too familiar there? Okay, lemme do it like this...

CHOP TOP/OTIS DRIFTWOOD WAS IN THE GWAR PIT. IT WAS AWESOME.

I was listening to a bunch of Sepultura today. There might be 7 or 8 better metal bands from the same period of time

They started to suck after "Chaos A.D.", and deserve all kinds of derision for "Roots" helping to popularize Nu Metal.

I don't mind Roots. There are some really catchy tunes there! Plus, it wasn't their fault every other crappy metal band on earth thought they were indians and shit and downtuned everything to Bb and had bongos and got tribal tattoos. You might as well blame Maiden or whoever for the 80s.

By the way, when I say "Sepultura", that ends when Max split. F'real though: call it 86-96, who you got over them? I'm betting it'll be fewer bands than you'd imagine when you get to thinking about it.

Kamelot's new album, Silverthorn, has leaked. I have it preordered through Amazon, but honestly couldn't pass up the chance to hear it. It's fucking wonderful!

Wintersun legitimately put out something new, or is it just that mockery video that somebody made where it's a melodeath tune about Pokemon and shit?

It's a legitimately new album. Time 1, Time 2 is supposedly out next year in 2050.

I can see that. I'm not as big into Cryptopsy as you are, though, so that could be why I'm really digging it in spite of those faults. It's better than The Unspoken King, and that's all I really care about.

I caught the US Torture Tour last night. Their New England stop was at the Met in Pawtucket, which is a nice little club that is (now) located out of an old mill building that's been renovated.

Bog of the Infidel opened up the show. They're a local, Providence-based black metal band. They're not too bad, and some of the parts of their songs were amazing, but it seems, overall, like generic black metal. I actually thought they were going to bust into a cover of AFI's "Miseria Cantare Pt. I" (CM Punk's ROH theme pre-Living Colour) going by the beat the drummer was playing at one point.

Hour of Penance were amazing. I didn't know that the rhythm guitarist also does the vocals for the band, so seeing him play their stuff (which isn't exactly simple) while growling was p. cool. They had this ambient noise between each song which kept everybody on their toes, and only played 3 tunes off of their new album Sedition (which is a must-get if you like death metal at all). The rest of their set was off of The Vile Conception and Paradogma, which excited me and my band's drummer Dave as those are the albums that got us into them. The only fault comes from them using a sampler to produce the "gang death" effect that the band utilizes quite often, which was perfect when the live vocals matched up with them but distracting on the few times that they didn't.

Misery Index was damn decent. Lots of energy, lots of the same groove/grind riffs that they're known for, and a decent sized pit. They're touring this time with just three members - drums, bass/vocals, guitar - which surprised me a bit, as the last time I saw them (a few years ago) they were a 5-piece. They're Dying Fetus with better vocals and considerably less noodling.

Cannibal Corpse was weird to see in such an incredibly small venue. GOOD weird, though. I'm used to seeing them at the Palladium, which is about 10x the size of the Met, so it was kind of jarring to be able to reach up and touch Corpsegrinder if I was so inclined (though why anyone would want to do a thing like that is beyond me). Much of their set was off of Torture, their new album they're touring for, so I wasn't familiar with some of the songs, but they did, as usual, close out with the 1-2 punch of "Hammer Smashed Face" and "Stripped, Raped, and Strangled." I'm just surprised they didn't play "Devoured By Vermin" and, instead, chose to play "Disfigured" off of that same album.

I didn't get home until 1:30ish in the morning. I didn't go to bed until almost 3. I'm at work right now. I may be getting too old for this shit.

Also of note, there were lots of battle jackets last night, but virtually none of the ego you see from people wearing them at the thrash shows in the area. That made me very, very happy, because I can only take snide remarks from some fuckhead with a Razormaze patch in regards to my Gwar patch so many times.
