Went to Day 2 of the Progpower USA kickoff in Atlanta this past week. The bands were Kamelot and Nightwish. This was a ridiculously good show and a hell of a lot of fun. Everything started at the scheduled times, and though Nightwish ran a little long, I don't think anyone cared. Kamelot's new frontman is just as energetic and charismatic as Roy Khan, and sings just as well. They played about 8 songs, since they were the opening act, but it was a really good set. Here is the final song of their set, "March of Mephisto".
Kamelot - March of Mephisto
Nightwish played for nearly 2 hours. It's been a little less than 5 years since the last time I saw them, but HOLY SHIT has their vocalist put on some weight. It didn't effect the performance though, and her voice is still just as good as ever. Needless to say though, they played a great set. They added in some older songs like "The Siren", "Higher Than Hopes" and "Planet Hell", but mostly played songs from their newest album. Marco Heitala continues his long streak as one of Metal's best frontmen with his insanely loud vocals. Near the end of "I Wish I Had an Angel", his mic went dead, but you could still hear him over the music that was playing. They played the abominable "Slow, Love, Slow" from their new album, but followed it up with the SICK "I Want My Tears Back" and earned my forgiveness. Nightwish now brings a bagpipe/flute player on tour with them, and the guy is REALLY good at what he does.
My hat is off to both bands.
