Eh, they've been treading water for a while anyway. I expect 3 really good tracks, and the rest perfectly average death metal

Municipal Waste released The Fatal Feast: Waste in Space last week. I'm listening to it on Spotify right now. You can definitively say that the late Cory Smoot's production of Hazardous Mutation and Art of Partying helped the band immensely, but this is definitely a step in the right direction after the horrible Massive Aggressive.

What do you guys think of Five Finger Death Punch? I thought they were el terrible after hearing their Bad Company cover but after hearing a few of their other songs on Pandora I decided to check them out. I'm seriously glad I did. They are pretty fucking awesome.

I know it's unpopular to like them, but I do. I was a fan of Motograter, and when I found out that the lead singer for FFDP was the same guy, I decided to give them a shot and I ended up liking them. I don't think they are the be all-end all of great metal bands, but I enjoy listening to them.

There is absolutely nothing about 5FDP that's close to resembling worthwhile. The singer's voice varies between faux-tough guy snarls and whiny, piss-poor excuses of self-examination, and the music itself is generic tripe without the tongue-in-cheek love or heart that at least a generic band like Hatebreed has.

Plus? 5FDP aren't even metal. Get that shit out of this thread.

All I've ever heard from them is their Bad Company cover. It didn't really do much for me, but I know they have their fans.

I'm more into power metal than anything else really, and I'm getting pretty agitated with Kamelot taking their sweet time announcing their choice for a new frontman. The big announcement is coming at the end of January 2012 though!

Atriarch - Fracture

One of you metal nerd types (gary floyd definitely) probably has heard everything this band has ever done, so this has probably even been posted here before, but I've been recently digging on this album heavily.

Sup TSM.

I desire, nay, NEED new metal music to listen to.

Stuff I have enjoyed: Enisferum, Wintersun, Norther, Sonata Arctica, Soilwork, Scar Symmetry, Children of Bodom, Mastodon(Crack the Skye was fucking brilliant on every level), Dark Tranquility, In Flames, Paradise Lost (ESPECIALLY THE PARADISE LOST ALBUM THAT WAS FUCKING SICK), Solution .45

So in general, Power/Gothenburg metal, good clean lyrics and sick riffs get me going.

Got any suggestions?

Anything I can headbang or go bezerk to?

Dimension Zero, the Absence, Light This City (CRIMINALLY underrated melodeath band that got unfairly lumped into the metalcore crew despite sounding more like straight-up Gothenburg than anything else), Battlecross, God Dethroned (melodic blackened death, every album is solid-at-worst and marvelous-at-best), and one of my favorite melodic bands: The Crown.

Also worth listening to is Edge of Sanity, Carcass' "Heartwork", Nevermore and Insomnium. If you want your Black Metal on the more melodic side, then Dissection, Sacramentum, Rotting Christ and Thurisaz might be up your alley.

The stuff Dying Fetus has released as a prelude to their album this year is bad. War of Attrition bad. Maybe even worse than that. I don't expect them to grow much as they fill their niche well, but this new stuff...no. Just fucking no.
War of Attrition ended my love affair with Dying Fetus. :'( I kind of miss those days.

We'll have have Destroy the Opposition.

Was the world really clamoring for another reissue of Dopesmoker? Couldn't something new have been added to this release, other than fresh (but nowhere near as boss as the first reissue) cover art? And speaking of Sleep, does the 2009 reissue of Holy Mountain sound appreciably better than the original release? No reviews I've found are helpful—just "this is fucking awesome it'll melt your face off" and the like.

Slowly working my way through the list recommended. It's all solid, nothing standout so far. I'm done with Absence and Light This City(all albums by both), both were decent and worth a second spin without blowing my mind. Up to Dimension Zero. This may be a bit slow by most people's standards, but when I listen to new metal, I like to give it a good amount of attention, and I can't study and listen to metal. I also dislike driving and listening to new music (love being in the zone with my favourite songs). But I'm enjoying the recommendations so far, I'm downloading the Crown and Acid Bath for when I'm done with D-Zero.

With the Crown, be aware that there are two versions of the album Crowned in Terror. There's the original release with Tomas Lindberg (of At the Gates) on vocals, and then there's the re-recording of it known as Crowned Unholy with original (and, IMO, superior) vocalist Johan Lindstrand returning to the fray. They literally re-recorded the whole album as they were unhappy with the original recording. Not Lindberg, mind you, but the actual songs. A few minor changes here and there, but Johan adds a certain versatility to the songs that Tomas lacked, most notably on "The Speed of Darkness."

After hearing two new Dying Fetus songs live tonight? I think the problem with the album will definitely be its production. I'm hoping the stream they put up on their FB was unmastered because it sounded like absolute dick.

Also, anybody who tells you that Suffocation is horrible live is fucking lying to you. I wish I thought fast enough because my friend Crawford and I ended up meeting Terrance Hobbs during Six Feet Under's set.

In other news, Six Feet Under is still just as horrible now as they ever were. At least they played "Hammer Smashed Face" to keep people somewhat interested, though. The Palladium was PACKED when I got there just at the end of Revocation's set and was maybe a third full when Six Feet Under started up. They shouldn't have headlined.
