Iron Maiden released their North American tour schedule last night with Alice Cooper as their opening act until July 21st and then Coheed and Cambria for the remaining of the tour.

Iron Maiden sure does love to tour with some queerness opening for them, eh? First it was touring with Bullet For My Valentine opening, now Coheed & Cambria...just make sure that Coheed's guys are nowhere near pharmacies, eh?

Saw Motorhead and Megadeth a couple of nights ago and its the second time I've seen them both. Motorhead, as always, plays rock and roll and kicks ass, according to Lemmy (and who doubts Lemmy anyways?), were loud. Louder than I saw them almost eight years ago. Megadeth also put on a great show, but Chris Broderick can not play anything that Marty Friedman did. It's painful to hear some sloppy shit over Wake Up Dead or even Hook in Mouth.

Just going through my periodic downloads of newer albums and got the albums by Lacuna Coil, Lamb of God, Biohazard, Goatwhore, and Alcest (allmusic labeled them as Black Metal) I haven't listened to the Lacuna Coil and Alcest stuff yet but I liked the Biohazard album fairly well. What's the opinion on Goatwhore? I'd never heard of them before this and they're pretty alright.

Goatwhore's not bad at all. Most of my exposure to them has come from them opening for acts I went to see, but I've never been turned off by their stuff, which is a rarity for black metal in general for me.

New Biohazard, huh? Is Billy back in the band? I know they split for a while around the turn of the century and then reformed, but then I remember Billy quitting and the band not doing anything. They've always been iffy with me. I loved them for a period when I was 13/14, but try listening to their s/t album. It's so monotonous that the two-person vocal attack by Evan and Billy grows realllllllllllllllllllllllly old reallllllllllllllllly quick. Maybe Evan convinced Billy to come back because he didn't have any more porn to star in/direct.

I really don't know how to label Alcest. Some call it "Metalgaze" or "Blackgaze". It occasionally has blast beats and black metal shrieks, but most of it owes more to shoegaze and post-rock. The new album isn't as good "Souvenirs d'un Autre Monde" or "Écailles de Lune", but it's still pretty great. If you like that, you should give Neige's other projects (Lantlos, Amesouers and Old Silver Key) a shot.

The difference between Fleshgod Apocalypse albums is quite startling. Their material on Da Vinci Death Code and their debut LP Oracles is quite brutal and technical, but then the Mafia EP comes out, followed by last year's Agony, and they've added quite a bit of melody to it all.

Also, they do a fucking amazing cover of "Heartwork," and probably the only cover of "Blinded by Fear" worth listening to.

The new Sigh album "In Somniphobia" is their best since "Imaginary Sonicscape."

The new Burzum is very dull and unmemorable.
Outside of "Hvis lyset tar oss" and "Filosofem", I find Burzum to be pretty 'meh." Also:

The stuff Dying Fetus has released as a prelude to their album this year is bad. War of Attrition bad. Maybe even worse than that. I don't expect them to grow much as they fill their niche well, but this new stuff...no. Just fucking no.
