In news only I and maybe Bearhugger will care about, Nightwish's new album has leaked.

Thanks for the heads up. I shall look for it once I get home from work.

Quick notes about the album.
The good: Marco is ALL OVER IT.
The bad: "Slow, Love, Slow" may be the worst song the band has ever recorded. Also, it seems nearly every song has the same riff in the chorus.

Other than that, it's a good listen. Not their best, but enjoyable.

At first I was thinking, "How bad could Slow, Love, Slow really be"? Holy crap, that might be one of the worst new songs I've heard this year, and for sure their worst song to date. Overall, it's a solid album. Some really good tracks, including I Want My Tears Back (song following Slow, Love, Song). I also really dug the last 2 tracks Song of Myself and Imaginaerum. Marco being everywhere made this a really good listen. You can kind of tell that if Tarja was still part of the group that the first track, Taikatalvi would have been hers for sure. I'd give the album a 3.5 out of 5, leaning more towards a 4 than a 3.

Alestorm playing on a cruise ship. That thing's gonna fuckin' sink. Hopefully Pentagram throws Nightwish overboard. I fucking hate Nightwish.

Probably. Dorky power metal is growing on me a little bit. Like I enjoy early Blind Guardian, and I get a kick out of Rhapsody, but fuckin' Nightwish? They blow. I hate female opera vocals in metal. Plus, wtf is a Nightwish, anyway? That sounds like some Twilight book bullshit. Put on a purple scarf and draw pictures of a castle with markers you fairy prince.

Everytime someone says they like Nightwish in this thread, my reaction is a mix of "Why do you like this?" and "You're kidding, right?"

FWIW, Nightwish hasn't had a female opera vocalist since 2005. So, is Nightwish the Nickelback of power metal?

In all seriousness though, this is a mostly awesome line-up.

Me and my friends actually discovered this months ago and couldn't stop poking fun at it. There's gonna be a lot of camo shorts on that cruise!

I've always lumped Nightwish into the same crowd as Xandria, Lacuna Coil, Within Temptation etc. It's great stuff if you are the kind of person who thinks something like the "Underworld" movies are the best things ever committed to celluloid.

As for Agent referring to "Twilight"-I think "Twilight Metal" would be a great surname for those kinds of bands.

That doesn't make them any less shitty.

Power metal has a Nickelback?

I don't like the "Underworld" movies, but I can understand their appeal. Nightwish? Not so much. I don't mind cheese in my metal, but bands like that just push it into overdrive, and make it hard for me to stomach.

Batman comic book character. So just about an 0.0002% less percent worse to you.

No, wait, that was Nightwing. Nightwish is a fuckin' gay band name.

I'm really really excited about the new Ghost. Kinda curious to see where Neurosis is going to go next, since their last one was kinda weird for them.

I'm interested in seeing if Municipal Waste's fifth LP is better than the shit that was Massive Aggressive and if Exhorder's first new material (hopefully) in over 15 years is more like Slaughter at the Vatican than it is The Law.

So, I figured out which non-Gwar or Slayer tour I'm going to this year.

The Black Dahlia Murder
Nile
Skeletonwitch
Hour of Penance
(making their US debut)

FAKE EDIT:
Fuck. They're hitting the Palladium for the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival. It's on April 20. That's my friend Joey's bachelor party night. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
