The internet. Paul Joseph Watson has said in the past that he thinks conservatism is the new punk (lol), and then there's the rise of places like 4chan and 8chan. They've helped create a generation of disaffected white kids afraid of a changing world that will lash out at "political correctness"* and embrace racism/misogyny/antisemitism either "ironically" (see 4chan) or wholeheartedly (8chan, Gab and parts of Twitter). Look at the comment sections on the videos (actually, don't) if you want an example.

*call me dumb or out of touch or whatever, but I always saw "political correctness" was stuff like college kids protesting white people protesting Yoga for being "cultural appropriation" or something. I am aware that the term has been used in the past to marginalize others, but the dumb shit like what I mentioned is what it always was to me.

Was posting in heat of anger. I don't think racism will ever evaporate. I figured that out when a former employer told me his two year old said "I don't like brown people" and he was more worried about him saying it around the wrong person than that it was said at all. So I get that racists will raise racists.

My hope is that we'll out number them, in time, as those that fought against civil rights start to die off. Each subsequent generation, I'd hoped, would become more and more independent of thought. Hoped that less and less there'd be "Well mah daddy always said..." types. That with a world of information at our fingertips, the people would in majority continue to reject hate, more and more.

I'm not saying this single video has torpedoed all hope, but it's definitely evidence progress won't be automatic.

According to TMZ, two white men in ski masks reportedly approached the 35-year-old actor late Monday, yelled out racial and homophobic slurs (“Aren’t you that homosexual Empire African-American person?”), then began to attack him with an unknown chemical substance.

Before fleeing the scene, one of the men wrapped a rope around Smollett’s neck, as if forming a noose. They then yelled, “This is MAGA country.”
