I'm pretty sure Brody booked this, hence his buds Huber and Killer Brooks being here.
Mike VE had killed himself only a few weeks earlier, so they added his name to the show next to David.
Classy finish as nothing says memorial like a mud match.
Nord refused to put Kevin over at a show celebrating his brother's lives.

Interesting to see Norton and Sting here as Norton would refuse to put Sting over a few weeks later at Slamboree and killed off his first WCW run.

WWF @ Hartford, CT - Civic Center - May 3, 1993 (2,200)
Bam Bam Bigelow defeated Kamala
Crush fought Doink the Clown (Borne) to a double count-out when Crush was distracted by a second Doink (Keirn)

Tatanka pinned Lex Luger by lifting his shoulder out of a back suplex and cover from Luger

- Satoshi Kojima and Manabu Nakanishi defeated IWGP Tag Team Champions Riki Choshu and Kensuke Sasaki to win the title

Some of these obscure house show cards, including some AWA ones, look real good.

And I've always thought Wrestlepalooza 98 is a bit underrated.

I think until the bottom fell out in the middle of 86 that the AWA was putting on much deeper cards than the WWF where even on big house show cards you had to expect to see 3-4 low end matches, a tag match, then 1-3 "pushed" feud matches on top to draw the house. Of course WWF fans had been conditioned to be star gazers, so they were more willing to sit through trash compared to AWA and JCP wrasslin' fans.

1905 – A bout took place in New York City between the world Greco-Roman Wrestling champion George Hackenschmidt and the American Heavyweight Champion Tom Jenkins. Hackenschmidt won the bout 2-0 to be declared the World Catch-as-Catch-Can Heavyweight champion. This is thought to be the first world wrestling championship recognized in the USA.

1939 - The smartest wrestling mind who happens to have been raised with problematic race views.....Bill Watts was born!

1961 Houston, Texas:
- Dory Dixon and Rito Romero defeated The Corsicans (Jean and Joe) to win the Texas NWA World Tag Team Titles

1967 Milwaukee, Wisconsin:
- AWA Tag Team Champions Larry Hennig & Harley Race ddq Lou Thesz & Crusher in the 3rd fall
- Johnny Valentine beat Reggie Parks
- Danny Hodge beat Bob Boyer
- Johnny Powers beat Rene Goulet

This is a very strange card. I'm not accustomed to seeing Valentine or Johnny Powers in AWA results offhand and Verne and Thesz were outright bitter at one another over their shared 1950s fame and Thesz not wanting to put the smaller Gagne over. I'm going to try and dig more into this tomorrow.

1970

Milwaukee, Wisconsin:
- AWA Tag Team Champions Mad Dog Vachon & Butcher Vachon beat Verne Gagne & the Crusher

- Superstar Billy Graham & Ernie Ladd beat Bill Watts & Wahoo McDaniel in 2 out of 3 falls
- Bob Ellis no contest Baron Von Raschke
- Billy Robinson drew Wilbur Snyder
- Rene Goulet beat Bull Bullinski
- Ric Flair beat Kenny Dillinger

Woo! Mercy Daddy! getting that Chi-town shine! A HOSS tag match, Snyder/Robinson in grappling goodness, my favorite AWA name Bull Bullinski, wrestler by night, trucker by day, and young Ric Flair.

1976 Raleigh, North Carolina:
- Dino Bravo and Mr. Wrestling defeated Gene and Ole Andersno to win the NWA World Tag Team Titles

Davenport, Iowa:
- Verne Gagne, Greg Gagne and Jim Brunzell beat Nick Bockwinkel, Blackjack Lanza and Bobby Duncum
- Larry Hennig beat Baron Von Raschke
- Mad Dog Vachon beat Chris Taylor by DQ

I'd have to double check, but somewhere around this time was when Taylor vs Mad Dog made ABC's Wide World of Sports to capitalize off Taylor's Olympic past as he faced off with an insane person who happened to compete in the '48 Olympics. Taylor wrestled for Iowa IIRC, so this makes a lot of sense. I'd wager ABC may have taped in Chicago or something instead though.

1977 Toronto, Ontario, Canada:
- The Sheik retained the U.S. title beating Tiger Jeet Singh on a disqualification
- Ken Patera beat Gorilla Monsoon

1984 – Wahoo McDaniel and Mark Youngblood won the NWA World Tag Team Championship in a bout with Jerry and Jack Brisco in Greensboro, North Carolina.

1988 - In a birth that was widely covered in the Apter mags, Brooke Bollea came into this world!

1985 – The second ‘Von Erich Memorial Parade Of Champions’ took place under the World Class Championship Wrestling banner at Texas Stadium in Irving, Texas in front of 26,153 fans. In the main event, NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair and Kevin Von Erich fought to a double count-out in a bout with the title on the line. The only new champions on the night saw The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton and Tommy Rogers) defeat The Midnight Express (Dennis Condrey and Boby Eaton in a two-ring no disqualification match for the vacant WCCW American Tag Team Championship.

http://culturecrossfire.com/wrestling/wrasslin-back-in-the-day-wccw-parade-of-champions-1985/

1988 - Canek defeats Perro Aguayo for the UWA World Heavyweight Title

1990 -

1991 - Raleigh, North Carolina:
- Big Van Vader defeated Stan Hansen via disqualification

I just realized I under played that Briscos '84 title change. The Briscos were doing a back door deal with Vince over the Georgia stock while still working near the top for JCP, they won the titles in Spring and while champions it came out that they had sold their GCW stock to Vince and he now owned the TBS time slot and not the NWA.
It took several months of lawsuits until "Black Saturday" could go down in July though.
So yeah, the Briscos were NWA champs for several weeks while also being on the shit list from many on the NWA side.
WWF bound soon.

Maybe Wahoo was picked to be in the match because he was buddies with the Briscos over their shared Native American pasts? I can't recall if the Briscos ever said as much in the past. IIRC Mark Youngblood was actually Hispanic (Ricky Romero's son).

Hard to think the Plane Ride from Hell was almost 20 years ago. I'm wondering how we're going to feel about a number of our favorites once the Dark Side of the Ring episode on the subject airs in a few weeks.

Wild to see Wendi Richter just working heel as an interchangeable lady only weeks before the WWF makes her a mainstream star. (Results show Watts was having her work heel at the same point Vince was preparing the media blitz a month later)
A quick look shows this AWA show is an oddball as Wendi is working the WWF before and after this event, even facing Moolah by the end of the month.

1989 – The National Wrestling Alliance presented ‘WrestleWar ’89: Music City Showdown’ from the Nashville Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. The highest profile match on the card saw Ric Flair win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship from Ricky Steamboat in the third and finale match in their legendary 1989 trilogy. Famously, the three matches took the top three spots in that year’s Wrestling Observer ‘Match Of The Year’ award. This particular bout finished second. After the match, Terry Funk attacked Flair and shockingly drove him through a table with a piledriver. Funk, along with Lou Thesz and Pat O’Connor had been seated at ringside as judges to determine a winner in the event the match went to a one hour time limit draw. This attack kayfabe sidelined Flair for two months and set up the historic Flair/Funk series. Also on the show, Michael Hayes defeated Lex Luger to win the NWA United States Championship.

This was done because both Kennedy and World Heavyweight Champion The Undertaker suffered muscle tears in the same week that were predicted to result in long layoffs. The decision was made to therefore have Edge take the MITB case so he could take the title from ‘Taker which he did the following night at the SmackDown tapings. As it transpired, Kennedy’s injury was much less serious than first diagnosed and he returned to action less than a month later.

2007 – Edge cashed in his newly won Money In The Bank briefcase to claim the World Heavyweight Title from The Undertaker. it was Edge’s second successful cash-in of the MITB case after first doing so in January 2006. He had won this opportunity with a victory over Mr. Kennedy on Raw earlier that week. This cash-in came in the aftermath of a huge SmackDown main event in which ‘Taker went to a draw with Batista in a cage match and was then viciously attacked by Mark Henry. These actions were designed to write The Deadman off TV due to an injury that would keep him out of action for a number of months. ( I loved this angle at the time!)

1999 – Monday Night Raw took place in Orlando, Florida. With an 8.1 Neilsen rating in the USA, it became the most watched episode of Raw in its home country in history. It is a record unlikely to be broken. It a star-studded main event, The Rock, ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and Vince McMahon defeated the Corporate Ministry team of Shane McMahon, The Undertaker and Triple H. Also on the card, Debra won the Women’s Championship in curious circumstances. She was set for an Evening Gown match with champion Sable. However, the champion replaced herself in the match with Nicole Bass who quickly defeated the challenger. Commissioner Shawn Michaels then came to the ring to announce that the match was actually subject to a reversal of the usual rules for that match type and as the woman to be stripped first, Debra was the winner of the match and the new champion. This also marked Sable’s last appearance in the company until 2003.

Cold Day in Hell is really the forgotten '97 WWF PPV. I think everything else has at least one memorable hook. I've watched it at least twice and can't remember a single thing except it being peak of "Rocky Sucks" chants and crowd cheering Mankind. Austin's first WWF World title shot (? I think...at least, it was first PPV one. Probably first televised) seems like it should've been a bigger deal but IIRC, main event was essentially like a RAW match.

Edit- The faux MMA match with Ken Shamrock Vs Vader was kind of ahead of its time. I always thought that happened later in the year.

Now that I'm vaguely remembering a few moments, I'd say it might be slightly more memorable than In Your House: DeGeneration X (although that's kind of memorable in how crappy it was and how it was one of the last IYH explicitly advertised as IYH IIRC).

I thought No Way Out '98 was the last PPV advertised under the "In Your House" banner but it looks like IYH trekked on for another year with St. Valentine's Day Massacre being the last official show with that name.

Yeah but the 1998-99 IYH, the In Your House was advertised in small print underneath the PPV name. I feel like you're right thought that No Way Out of Texas was the last one advertised as In Your House: insert name of IYH though.

I consider Ground Zero in September '97 to be official end of the IYH era since it was the first three hour one AND the last one to use the house entrance.

Edit- I guess Ground Zero was also the first IYH where the subtitle was announced before IYH.
