3 hours in. Anyone who complained that this is essentially a direct copy of Fallout 3 is pretty much right. The only difference at this infant stage of the game is the factions and instead of general rep you have reputations within the various factions. Haven't gotten to mod any weapons yet or any of the other new stuff.

The thing about that complaint is... so what? You wouldn't have played a 60 hour Fallout 3 expansion in a new location with a whole new story? Very fun so far.

One thing: Mr. New Vegas is no Three Dog, but I fear that "Johnny Guitar" may become my new Bongo Bongo Bongo.

I really hate the 'GAWD THIS IS JUST THE SAME GAME' argument most of the time. When the game was good, and still fresh, why the fuck not take it and give us more of it? The same people who bitch about that are the people who if we get something completely different yell WTF THEY CHANGED EVERYTHING WHY DID YOU FUCK UP A GREAT GAME?

There's a new Bongo Bongo Bongo? I still have the old one stuck in my head.

I loved the Fallout 3 soundtrack. Apparently Mr. New Vegas is Wayne Newton.

To be honest, so far no song quite matches up but Johnny Guitar is quite catchy. It's slower, though.

I had forgotten how long and tedious some trips are during quests. Fallout: New Walk more like.

7/10 so far soley for the fact it feels just like Fallout 3, but has enough to make it different.

Too bad about the bugs. I'll probably finally finish off Dragon Age and the expansion, maybe run through with a second character, and then pick this up after the first patch or two comes out. I wasn't really excited about this, but then I remembered what my life was like with Fallout 3. It went a little something like this.

6:00 PM - Get home from work. It's November, so it's already dark out. My roommate is playing Fallout 3.
7:00 PM - He goes to a night class. I play Fallout 3.
9:15 PM - Is there anything on TV tonight? No? Okay, I'll eat dinner. I hope we have food. My roommate plays Fallout 3.
11:00 PM - My roommate gets a call from his bitchy girlfriend and goes to bed. I play Fallout 3.
1:47 AM - I realize I have to get up in 6 hours.

Repeat for about 4 weeks. Also, focus an inordinate amount of attention on bobby pins at Target.

My girlfriend is going to hate this game.

I've not encountered a single bug... about 6 hours in. Apparently the GOTY edition of Fallout 3 was buggy as hell too but I didn't get bugged up once in 70+ hours. Hit and miss? I have a new-ish 360, if that matters.

Like the way the story is developing, although admittedly I haven't done much. Haven't completed any quests yet that unlock achievements, which is to really say that I haven't advanced the story very much. But I just ran into Ceaser's Legion for the first time and although I didn't agree with what they were up to... I let them be because they were going to fucking murder me if I said something bad to them.

I'm warming up to the factions more and more.

You'd think that by the third game using this engine (not even counting the expansions), you'd think they would have ironed out a lot of that crap. I'll put it on the Christmas list or get it on sale.

The engine has always been finicky and difficult. Alt-tabbing in a Bethesda game is playing with fire.

I HD installed and still froze. Although the game does save everytime you travel/enter a new local... So even the freezing isn't a game deal breaker.

I can't imagine how to test a game where you can go anywhere and do anything...people are bound to break it the first day. After 30 minutes of playing you can literally just run left for a half hour and open up options in dialogue, enemies, and choices that were probably never considered at level 1

What console are these bugs happening on? I played for about 3 hours last night, PS3, and didn't encounter any freezing, etc.

Outside of that.. love it. LOVE IT! It's totally more of the same, with a new story obviously, and it's great. I love that I can just pick this up and everything is mapped out the same as F3 so there's no learning curve with the controls, etc. Good shit! I can't wait to get a companion, though. I want to find that damn cyborg dog!

Even though I hadn't experienced any bugs yet, I'm glad to hear that a patch is coming so fast that it will apparently make our heads spin:

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/104563-Fallout-New-Vegas-Patch-Coming-As-Quickly-As-Possible

and here http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/31086/Fallout_New_Vegas_Patch_Plans_On_The_Way.php

Bethesda Softworks says it will soon announce its plans to patch and fix bugs in its just-released Fallout: New Vegas. Although the Obsidian-developed game is receiving a generally positive critical reception, much of the response to the game has made note of an unusually high degree of bugs in the post-apocalyptic roleplaying game.

"Mid-battle a foe may suddenly plummet through the game world or get stuck on a rock, making for an easy kill," said Game Informer's Andrew Reiner; Giant Bomb's Jeff Gerstmann discovered "a list of incredibly annoying bugs that only got worse as I continued playing", although both reviewers recommended the game.

In fact, Gerstmann even advised: "If you're the type of person who likes to watch for a patch or two before settling into a game, know this now: you probably don't want to play Fallout: New Vegas right away."

Initial play of the just-debuted game by fans have also found a number of other polish-related issues, although none are known to stop in-game progress on the open-world game.

But Bethesda says it hopes not to make those watchers wait too long: "We are currently working on releasing patches/updates as quickly as possible for Fallout: New Vegas, for all platforms," says the company in a statement to Gamasutra. "Announcements regarding the patches are forthcoming."

Fallout: New Vegas launched yesterday on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC in North America, and will launch tomorrow in Australia and on Friday in Europe. The game is set after the events of Bethesda's Fallout 3, staged in a future-dystopian Las Vegas as it begins to show slow signs of recovery from nuclear disaster.

It's kinda hilarious how much of this is EXACTLY from Fallout 3. Hell, Sunny Smiles looks just like Moira Brown from Megaton. The only thing different so far is the Nightkins or what-have-you which always manage to scare the shit out of me with their invisibility and all.

8:00 AM. Get home from work. Smoke a bowl/crack a beer. Catch up on sports. Internet.
9:00 AM-3:00 PM. Play Fallout 3.
6:00 PM. Get up for work. Shit/Shower. Play Fallout 3.
7:00 PM. Arrive at work whistling "Bongo Bongo Bongo"

I will wait until the first snowfall to purchase New Vegas. Until then, I will not visit this thread or read reviews, watch video, anything. I will simply wait until snow, and then tuck in for the winter. Until then.

I got to Primm last night. Then the Mojave Outpost. Then I had to go to bed. Still no bugs or freezing for me. Keeping my fingers crossed.

So far I'm looking at siding with the NCR for the time being. Powder Gangers hate me already, lol.

I fucked up a mission. I'll spoiler tag this. Safe to read after clearing Novac (really clearing it - post Repconn factory).

The one where you have to find out who sold the sniper's wife into slavery and then lead them out in front of the dinosaur while wearing his beret so he can kill them. I got the clues and figured out it was the lady who runs the hotel but couldn't find the proof so I just said fuck it and lead her to her death. He blows her head up - I get the safe key from her. He gets all pissed at me because I didn't have any proof. So I open her safe and in there was the bill of sale, proving that she WAS the one who sold the wife into slavery but now he won't talk to me and I can't show him the proof. Shiiiit.

I'm playing the PS3 version. And finding it pretty janky. Animations, technical performance, AI pathing, stuff being on my radar, but when I actually go to that position, there's seemingly nothing there, characters going through closed doors. And I'm pretty sure I just died somehow--due to blood loss, or rad poisoning, maybe; nothing actively attacking me--but all that happened was that I collapsed, and now the screen is black--and staying black, for many minutes--with some music playing. (And the guide button not working. So it locked up.)

I was talking to the woman in the saloon. I told her I'd fix her radio. So I did. Then I spent like an hour trying to find her, and she's nowhere. So I figured I'd try to find Sunny (? the one with the dog). Nowhere. Lost a game of Caravan. Tried to figure out the rules to Caravan. Did not figure out the rules to Caravan.

I'm not impressed.

Luckily for that case, there are patches coming out very shortly that should close a lot of these holes. The PC version is already patched.

I really want to get New Vegas but I'm holding out for Fable 3. I really hate when a bunch of good games get released weeks apart.
