Update because I don't know how much play this is getting in America and Agent linked this thread elsewhere:

PFC Manning has been forced to sleep without even boxers on a few times lately. The reported reason for this from the people at Quantico was that he had displayed intent to harm himself. Okay, so why only have him naked for part of the day? Also, how in the world could he hurt himself with his own underwear? Even an attempt to choke himself to death would end when he passed out and lost his grip. What, were they afraid he'd try to swallow it? That's why there's a guard. Novel concept I know, but the purpose of a guard is not only to prevent escape. He's also supposed to keep the prisoner or prisoners from hurting themselves. Maybe Marines aren't bright enough to put a night guard on him and the Army looked like they were having a blast at Abu Ghraib so they wanted to try the nude prisoner experiment too. I'll bet pictures come out eventually. Oh, and they've piled 22 more charges on the guy, including "aiding the enemy."

There's a story about the guy at least once a week in Stars and Stripes, and I haven't changed my mind about this one bit. Wikileaks is still a shitbag organization for not funding his defense like they said they would, and although what he did was technically and legally treasonous it wasn't wrong. If anyone deserved justice it was the families of the Reuters reporters that got blown away by Apaches.

A tiny bit, yeah. But since it's a country as small and powerless as Ecuador, what are they gonna do about it? Unless some bigger countries stand up for them, they've got no way to defend themselves. The Falklands War is a reminder of how even now Britain can still get grumpy and imperialistic.

A German law firm will hit a new low next week, even for companies engaged in the file-sharing settlement letter business. The company says that from September 1st it will begin publishing the details of individuals it claims have infringed their clients’ copyrights by sharing hardcore pornography online. To make matters worse, they’re threatening to target churches, police stations and Arabs first. Neither the Pirate Party nor Anonymous are happy and now the latter are threatening action of their own.

Who doesn't love some good old fashioned blackmail? Let's go after them Arabs! Oh Germany.
