It doesn't change anything for me, I'm still not watching. I think the guy is a scumbag so nothing changes for me. There will be some interesting ramifications from this. A large portion of the WWE roster are free agents, and maybe they were leaving anyway so some part of the calculus is that you bring Punk in to replace these people knowing they're gone anyway. You also have to question how much he was being a drama queen about his accusations that WWE was trying to kill him.

This is gonna be funny as fuck.

This is my favorite hypocrite in a long time. I have no desire to watch because of his presence nor do I care what he does, but it's gonna be hilarious.

Thinking about it, and I know this doesn't really matter anymore, but debuting him in the holiday lull period kinda lessens this. I know they had to because of .Chicago but imagine if they waited till Mania season. Wwe usually just takes December off

PWI says he signed a multi year deal earlier this week. Also like I mentioned earlier they wanted to debut him at the Rumble but chose to not wait so the news wouldn't leak

I'm sure it's a work. Fake world championship needs a money match and only smarks will give a shit when it comes down to it. Gimme profanity and ranting from the guy doing a gimmick that's literally the Electric Mayhem in one dude instead of worked shoot promos where 70% will land but age immediately.

It's now been reported that the talents were told ahead of time. It was a work.

Reportedly it is Punk/Rollins at the Rumble.

what is the source saying they were told because SRS says they weren't and HHH cleared everyone out and produced the last part solo.

Running Seth/Punk at the Rumble would be a colossal mistake

Yes and no. I mean you have them both there you have to have them work each other as fast as you can before shit goes south.

On the sources. Fightful actually was one of them. There is also an insider on SquaredCircle Reddit who has been very reliable who confirmed both that people were told ahead of time and Rollins/Punk.

Below is from Fightful:

Full details at Fightful Select

-Fightful was told on November 19 that CM Punk and Triple H had a very productive, hour-long conversation that mended fences between the two.

-Triple H confirmed Fightful's previous reports that talks had not happened between the two sides until rumors heavily died down, and it actually didn't look like a deal was happening. WWE sources say the deal came together quickly and a contract wasn’t signed as of Saturday AM

-Punk had told select people close to him that the return was happening.

-Minutes before Punk appeared, a section of backstage was cleared out, but Punk was seen in plain sight. We're told that Triple H took over producing the show himself at that point, called for the copyright graphic, and then also personally called for CM Punk's music to hit

-Producers, referees, staff, talent, and even head writers on the creative team were not told.

-Triple H, Bruce Prichard and Michael Hayes needed to discuss a change to the main event, but we weren't told specifically if that was Punk related.

-Main event talent being upset, there are numerous talent on the roster in general upset, just as there are some excited, curious and about every emotion. Talent were pulled aside before the WarGames match and told that CM Punk would be returning at the conclusion of the show.

I honestly don’t think it will go south on Punk’s end. He knows this is truly his last shot in professional wrestling and the only reason he is even coming back to WWE is because he didn’t want to end his career in disgrace being run out of town by Jack Perry and the Bucks. He’s going to be on his very best behavior. But who knows what will happen with some of the other guys in the locker room.

You have to think Seth/Punk is end game for Mania. Assuming Seth is going to be champion heading into there, there is no match they can run with him halfway as compelling and it finally gives Punk his Mania Main Event. But it does lose some of its luster if it’s a rematch instead of being fresh. Only way I would even consider it is if the Rumble match is a non-stop schmozz brawl that can’t be stopped ala HBK/Undertaker at Ground Zero 97. Otherwise just save it.

Everyone said that about Punk not fucking around in AEW, and that didn't happen because the guy is a piece of shit. So like, I don't know what could make anyone think it's gonna go better. In the long term, things end the way they do with this guy because that's just who he is. Last time I checked AEW had him debut in front of his hometown crowd and he was super over and then uhhhh

I think WWE is a much better environment for Punk's ego. He's not cut out for a more wild west environment like AEW. You won't have anyone going off script like Hangman or calling him out off script like Jack Perry. That stuff just doesn't happen in WWE anymore. Everything is sterile and goes through like 6 stages of corporate filtering before coming out as the most safe, homogenized product possible.

"Being run out of town by Jack Perry and the Bucks" is pretty oversimplified, is it not?

This is where I point out that Punk is the classic 'I go off script' guy, you think everyone's just gonna stand around and let him castrate them without talking back? It's crazy that there's people who actually think this.

The guy runs around trying to beat up his coworkers and threatening his boss. Anyone who made him mad isn't even allowed to be on the same show as him. This guy will fit in WWE. How do those three things make any sense?

I’m of the opinion that he was truly goaded and pushed and trolled until he eventually snapped. I put less of the blame on him than I do on Hangman or the Bucks or Perry. You’ll disagree and you’re entitled to your opinion, but some of the guys in that locker room took pleasure tweaking him both when he was there and later after he left without any repercussions. Then they played victims when he lashed back. My hope is the same unprofessional shit doesn’t happen here in a more corporate environment but, well, it’s wrestling so who knows.

That's not what happened. He threw a chair at someone's head and split their head open before they could even get two words out. Then he acted like a maniac to a jabroni over nothing, then he did it again to a guy who did troll him and the boss right after and finally they fired him.

CM Punk is the ultimate 'worked shoot promo' guy. He is the last guy who should be complaining about what other people say when they have a microphone. Like really we're talking about other guys playing victims when CM Punk's given about a hundred promos shitting on other wrestlers or retired guys. His entire career was built on that shit.
