Going through 1988-95 shows in the background has reminded me so much how fun this is supposed to be. I get into it on a level that isn't as cynical as I do pretty much every year after that. Internet told me what I like too much.

What's the most egrarious example of commentary recorded after the fact? Or basically did I imagine JR calling parts of WM4 in the mid 90s.

I don't remember JR calling WM4 but I know JR called a Ric Flair-Mr. Perfect match on a Coliseum Video and Flair left two months before JR got there

That's no more egregious than Rick McGraw's last match airing after he was dead.

Yikes!

Speaking of working from beyond the grave, IIRC, WWE showed Joey Marella officiating matches for weeks after his fatal car crash. I think it was only after they finally finished airing the shows from that taping cycle that they acknowledged his passing, almost a month later.

On one of the CHV from 93 where they show the 40 man Battle Royal, Heenan refers to Texas Tornado as a "good man" or somesuch after he is tossed out as Kerry had died months earlier.

Ross and Heenan called a Savage/Bret v Flair/Shawn match on a CHV release. Match was taped in summer of 92 and Ross shows up about 9 months later. Flair was in WCW at the time of release and Perfect was a babyface. Heenan still had to act like him and Perfect were aligned

There is a CV which features a Natural Disasters match from after they had both left, in which JR and Heenan make thinly veiled references to the Shockmaster incident.

How far were they going to push Windham in that Widow Maker run? I caught a couple promos from the syndicated shows where he mentions Hogan. Maybe farfetched but were these just generic promos or was this actually going to build to something?

The promo for Mania X that they showed on the Rumble ‘94 VHS (no idea about the original PPV) had a clip of Mania IV with JR doing voiceover (that I guess we were supposed to think was contemporaneous?) about how the Macho Man had won not one, not two, not three but four matches that night. No idea why they didn’t just use Gorilla’s original call.

That's exactly what I was thinking of. What a weird decision.

They tried this with Crockett Cup 86, but did 2 shows in one day. The opening round show drew 10,000 less people than the evening show.

Maybe with the split show they toss out the Battle Royal and we get a little more filler so each show is 3 hours?
Sam Houston, Ken Patera, B. Brian Blair & Jim Brunzell, Jacques & Raymond Rougeau, Paul Roma & Jim Powers, Nikolai Volkoff & Boris Zhukov, Hillbilly Jim, the Junk Yard Dog, Danny Davis, King Harley Race, Jim Neidhart, Bret Hart, Bad News Brown, Sika, Ron Bass George Steele;
Plus guys like Joe LeDuc, Dan Spivey, Scott Casey and others were floating around. (Plus Sherri, the Glamour Girls and the Bomb Angels)

You can give some of the better matches more time, too. Either of Valentine's matches were shaping up for being quite good with more time. Plus you can do the battle royal night one and hotshot Bret/Bad News just because.

For someone who hated Studd Andre sure made him look like a million bucks here. Incidentally, Srudd quit the day after this show aired.

According to the most recent Center Stage Chronicles, WCW was expecting to lose Sid a full year prior to win they actually did. In Jan 90 it was assumed Sid would be WWF bound by June.

So does he get fast tracked to face Warrior at Summerslam? Does his signing effect the signing of Kerry Von Erich in July? Is Sid maybe brought in as a Hogan acolyte after the Butt Splash of Doom took Hogan out - leading to the worst match of all time Sid vs Dino Bravo at SSlam 90?

Which manager does he go with if he doesn't get Harvey signed for the role?
Is Slaughter's run abolished?

I was thinking if the WWF was a little more Meta in 1991 that Smash could shave his head and declare himself Krusher Khrushchev once again at the fall of the Soviet Union. He'd be a goofy advocate to bring back Communism. Maybe partnering with Boris and trying to bring Volkoff back around to the red team. (Yes, Nikolai was off the roster...but still) It would be the polar opposite of WCW bringing in the Russian Olympians for Starrcade 90.

Sid either is hotshotted to Warrior or gets the Earthquake spot with Hogan, which leaves Quake free for Warrior. The only other spot that makes sense is getting involved with the Bossman stuff. He gets a strong push immediately no matter what.

I feel like Sid could hang sufficiently considering how the minds able to lay out matches move for move. That said dude will forget everything immediately and we get some disastrous Warrior matches.

My dream Sid role has become him being the guy to slam Yokozuna though.
