Fantasy is the only thing with this. Since Vince McMahon couldn't say no to Hogan, there's no other point in speculation. It's fun to think about an alternate universe where he's the heel vs Savage or Warrior or whatever.

He also had a movie to promote in real deal theaters and being a heel turns off his real fanbase (kids...Brody) when they are needed to drag their parents into the movie. His merch sales were bonkers ahead of everyone too, so turning off the spigot before they ran the well dry would have been foolish on all sides.

And if they keep Macho as champ and run the program to Summerslam before Hogan wins the belt (which many like to fantasy book), then Hogan's doing all the talk shows for the movie, without the title and with a failed PPV main event title match to explain away.

Or you switch everything up and ignore the millions of dollars on the table and run Mania with Hogan vs Bossman cage blowoff and Warrior vs Savage and kill off Warrior's upward momentum.

I do wish we saw a Rude/Savage feud with Rude trying to molest Liz although it would be an exact repeat of the Roberts angle from 88.
---
I'm listening to the Center Stage pod and they say Owen is talking to the WWF (and WCW) about coming in (Jan 90) It's not out of the realm of possibility that he might have gotten Anvil's spot and we get the Hart Bros vs Demos at Summerslam.

As I said, purely fantasy. So many moments that could've been something completely different and could've helped or hindered the long-term in so many ridiculous ways. Hogan/Savage going to Summerslam is ideal but it going down as it did, but with a good finish, is better. All he had to do was move out of the way of the elbow. That's all. He didn't need to kill the elbow and make it canon that it actually wakes him up.

33 mins Some real BS here. The Dream Team double team BJ Mulligan for the first minute plus of of BJ vs Beefcake match. I thought the match would be a schmozz to set up a tag the next month...butttttttttt... the ref counts until Valentine walks off...and the match just goes on! Mulligan cowboys up and whoops Beefcake for a clean win anyway!

How long was Perfect expected to be on the shelf after SummerSlam 91, and how long in advance had a face turn and feud with Flair been planned out? And what happens with those plans if Warrior doesn't get canned?

Also not sure if anyone could answer this one, but why was Haku announced from Tonga but not Barbarian?

Wasn't a turn for Perfect in the cards for a few months? Like i thought he was one of the names Bret beat out to win the title.

From the WON at the time:

Bret Hart pinned Mr. Perfect in 18:03 to win the Intercontinental title. An excellent match that easily stole the show. Believe it or not, even though Perfect worked the match in great pain (he’ll be out of action for an indefinite period of time and as of last word there was a good chance he’s going to need a spinal fusion or another form of major back surgery and there is even some concern that if he needs that serious of an operation that it may be a long time, or even never, when he returns), in some ways the back injury made him an even better worker. Perfect’s deal before getting hurt a few months back was to take one unbelievable bump after another, which can carry a match when he’s working with a guy who can’t do anything. But in this case, while he did a few big bumps, for obvious reasons he had to limit both their number and their wildness and was forced into wrestling a serious style match.

Not sure if he was from parts unknown in JCP, but Barb wasn't playing an Islander, so they probably wanted to keep his background murkier.

Wiki says he and Haku were actually sent from Tonga to do sumo in Japan at the same time before they turned to wrestling.

Nov 92 WON:

Randy Savage & Mr. Perfect beat Ric Flair & Razor Ramon in 16:29 via DQ. Good match, but not nearly what you’d expect from the talent involved on such a big show. Perfect showed lots of rust and wasn’t in his best shape since this whole thing came down in the last two weeks. As a babyface, he doesn’t need to take those wild bumps so it should be easier on his back. Savage worked most of the match taking punishment. Perfect was put over really strong as the super wrestling technician by both men

That was November. Bret got the title a month or so earlier. So if the plan was to come back, it isn't outside the realm of possibility they really considered Perfect if a turn was set in stone in November (I'm more and more convinced he turns during the Mega Maniacs match that never happened).

Also Perfect was fine in that match but the tights dragged him down. Ten years later, same shit happened to Shawn.

Always wondered how many names they want through before just being all "Well it's a big event. Say..."

I mean it’s not like the business missed out on a boom by him not getting pushed, but I feel like there’s an undeserved negative stigma about him due to the Horseman miscasting. He was a totally solid worker. Like maybe he could have got the Skinner spot against Bret at Tuesday in Texas, I think that’s a reasonable peak

Dang, a Bret-Roma match in Nov 1991 could've been really good. Agreed on the Horseman thing (and the Alex Wright thing) being weighed too heavily. Power & Glory and Pretty Wonderful were good teams and Young Stallions wasn't bad; that's gotta be at least 6 years.

He and Martel as Models Inc. were an EWR staple way back.

Would've been a good opponents to feed to the Steiners between Money Inc and the Quebeccers.

Should've still been Power & Glory. Hell put the belts on them in January and let LOD kill them at Wrestlemania instead, and build to LOD/Nasties. Everyone wins except the Nasties and that's what matters most.

In that scenario, are the Harts split up already and we get a Bret singles match at Mania, perhaps against cannon fodder like Bravo or do we just play the string out and keep it with the Nasties beating them at Mania?

Otherwise i sorta wanna do Harts vs Tenryu/Kitao for the shits of it.

Bret/Valentine (turn Valentine after the match) if Bret's a single or just swap the Harts with the Rockers so we get a swank Harts/Faces Of Fear match to send them off and the Rockers put the Nasties over strong.

Then for further shits, I’m turning it into Bravo & Quake vs Kitao & Tenryu knowing what happened a few days later with Kitao and Quake.

Basically all I’m trying to do is get demos off this show I guess.

Looking back I would have preferred a P & G. run with the belts rather than the Nasties. Nasties got off to a hot start but honestly everything past Summerslam 91 was. a bore.

Roma quit the WWF in fall 91 after being informed he and Herc were being split up. He probably would have been a lower midcard heel job guy if he stayed. Sorta like what Herc became.

I just genuinely can't stand the Nasties and think they were a bad move. Without Foley or a Steiner, they're worthless and annoying.

Power and Glory were top titties and deserved so much more. Felt like they both found a groove and busted ass more often than not vs either guy as a solo. They'd also have looked good with the belts.

How did the world survive the utter shit of Moondog Spot and Sika trading rest holds and WHY did the WWF decide that of all things was worthy of a block of TV time?

56 mins is the dumbest angle for WM 3 as Adonis accidentally cuts Beefcake's hair, somehow not noticing Beefer's garish attire as he went for his head.

Ron Bass debuts and is thrust into a feud with BJ Mulligan. (According to a recent JCP pod I listened to apparently Bass used the claw hold there as a finish at first. Just being a total Mulligan clone.

The Bees main event in some truly ugly ass attire.

I watched one of those old PTW's recently which showed a match between Jose Luis Rivera and Terry Gibbs. Like, even pre-Hogan era, who's asking to see that match, much less 1987?
