A pretty good quick read of Dilfer's tenure at UAB after he just got fired - He went 5-14 in AAC play, and 6-21 vs. the FBS.

What was the low point? "It's not like this is freakin' Alabama." UAB fans know, Coach. They know. UAB fans live in the shadow of 61,320 hours a year, and they don't need their own head coach to remind them of that. Asked to clarify a couple days later, Dilfer pointed out that only two reporters covered the game in which he said that statement, and rested his case.

And to prove that wasn't a one-off mistake, Dilfer praised Louisville's volleyball program over UAB's, in a podcast with UAB's athletics director. “Like if you want to play big time college volleyball go to Louisville,” Dilfer said. “You’ll have the best experience ever there. They’re great people. They’re great coaches," Dilfer said.
“Or UAB," AD Mark Ingram interjected.
“I’m sorry,” he said. “You’re right. … I will say this, they’re pulling from different (recruiting) buckets, Mark.”

The folks in State College, PA dreaming of Cignetti can forget about that as he has agreed with an 8 year extension with Indiana.

A night of upsets!

Louisville upset #2 Miami 24-21 last night. Minnesota stomped #25 Nebraska 24-6. Also UNC lost to Cal 21-18, lol. Earlier in the week, FIU rolled Western Kentucky 25-6.

More upsets and chaos/carnage as #17 Vanderbilt beat #10 LSU and #9 Georgia beat #5 Ole Miss. Wonder if the SEC inadvertently ends up cannibalizing itself for the playoffs. UAB, after firing Trent Dilfer, promptly beat #22 Memphis and Arizona State beat #7 Texas Tech. Even #4 Texas A&M barely survived Arkansas in a 45-42 shootout. #18 Virginia had to score 12 points in the 4th quarter to beat Washington State. #21 Texas beat Kentucky but had to do it in OT, same for #16 Missouri beating Auburn in OT.

On the FCS side: Wofford upset Furman 31-13; Cornell gets their 1st win of the season beating Bucknell 30-20; Youngstown State beat Illinois State 40-35; Chattanooga beat East Tennessee State 42-38; Holy Cross upset Richmond 28-22 for its 1st win of the year; Western Carolina beat The Citadel 45-38; Lamar beat UT Rio Grande Valley 23-21 in a spotlight game; Eastern Washington beat Idaho 21-14 in what's been a down year for both programs; Southern Utah upset Abilene Christian 31-24

Holy Shit... By the end of Curry's 71-27 win over Nichols, Quinn had taken down the NCAA record for all divisions by rushing for 522 yards on 20 carries while tacking on seven touchdowns.

Florida shitcanned Napier.

Quite a list of programs with vacancies this year.

Florida, Penn State, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Virginia Tech, Oregon State, Stanford, UAB and UCLA.

And there’s a solid chance of LSU and Auburn joining the list.

Game of the Year in the FCS tonight. We also gonna get a BAMA EXPLOSION

No. 1 North Dakota St (7-0,4-0 MVFC) at No. 2 South Dakota St (7-0, 3-0)

Kickoff: 8 p.m. ET Saturday at Dana J. DykhouseStadium in Brookings, South Dakota (ESPNU)

The FCS season’s biggest crowd is anticipated for the fourth straight season with Alabama A&M (4-3, 1-2) and Alabama State(4-2, 2-1) meeting Saturday at Legion Field in Birmingham. The Magic City Classic has averaged 68,622 fans in the last three years– all games won by ASU despite being outgained by A&M in yardage each time.

#18 Illinois State also matches up on the road at #21 South Dakota.

Also more school records getting demolished: Redshirt freshman Drew Mestemaker passed for a school-record 608 yards with four touchdowns and North Texas Mean Green scored 37 unanswered points to beat Charlotte 54-20 on Friday night. Mestemaker completed 37 of 49 passes with one interception in breaking the record.

Memphis moved to 7-1 getting a big upset win over #18 USF 34-31. Navy moved to 7-0, the first time since 1978, with a win over FAU 42-32. Washington smoked #23 Illinois 42-25. San Diego State moved to 6-1 shutting out Fresno State 23-0. Pittsburgh and Iowa demolished NC State & Minnesota respectively to move to 6-2. #3 Texas A&M easily handled #20 LSU 49-25 giving them 3 losses on the year. Houston, now 7-1, knocked off #24 Arizona State 24-16.

Umass is 0-8 (lol but let's keep them in the FBS and move them to the MAC...). Deion's Colorado team is now 3-5 after losing to Utah (which ran for 422 yards as a team).

On the FCS side
  • Harvard moves to 6-0 beating Princeton 35-14
  • Yale beat Penn 35-13
  • Dayton beat Presbyterian in a big match up 35-19
  • Delaware State beat NC Central in a key game 35-26
  • Illinois State beat South Dakota 21-13
  • Alabama State steamrolled Alabama A&M 56-13
  • Grambling beat Jackson State in a key game 26-24
  • #1 North Dakota State annihilated #2 South Dakota State 38-7

In small school carnage, UTSA stomped Tulane 44-26. QB Owen McCown was 31/33 for 370 and 4 TD.

DeSean Jackson and Mike Vick went head to head as coaches with Delaware State beat Norfolk State (1-8) winning 27-20 and improving to 6-3 on the season.

"Norfolk State, with an enrollment of about 5,100 students, is 1-8 and has lost seven straight games. Vick recently fired some assistant defensive coaches as he tries to revive a Spartans’ program that has made only one playoff appearance since moving to FCS in 1997.

Jackson has orchestrated a rapid turnaround at Delaware State, with an enrollment of about 6,500 students, that already included its first conference win since 2022. The Hornets beat rival North Carolina Central 35-26 last week for their first win in Durham since 1977."

Seventeen FBS teams have reached the 7-win mark so far, and the clash between the 7-0 Midshipmen and the 7-1 Mean Green is the only Week 9 offering between that group. It's also a meeting of two of the best offenses in major college football; North Texas leads the nation at 46.1 points per game, while Navy is second in the country at 7.57 yards per play.

Really good FBS slate today
  1. #10 Miami @ SMU
  2. Navy @ North Texas (Neither team is ranked and this is kind of a damned if you do/damned if you don't game. Win and you're 8-0 or 8-1 but you technically didn't beat a "ranked" team; Lose and your playoff chances are probably doomed)
  3. #9 Vanderbilt @ #20 Texas
  4. Arizona State @ Iowa State
  5. Fresno State @ Boise State
  6. #15 Virginia @ California
  7. #18 Oklahoma @ #14 Tennessee
  8. #23 USC @ Nebraska
  9. #17 Cincinnati @ #24 Utah

FBS Carnage as the 8, 9, and 10th ranked teams all lost as did #22 Houston. #24 Utah ended up beating #17 Cincinnati too.

The FCS Playoffs Bracket. Biggest snubs include Presbyterian with North Dakota being a bit of a surprise inclusion. Glad Harvard got in though, was worried they'd get screwed after losing.
