On the very very slim chance that the nominee isn't Trump, I assume it's going to be whoever is the closest Trump surrogate. Obviously, a moderate Republican would pummel Sleepy Joe but the Republican Party base gave up on any semblance of common sense sometime in 2008.

GOP is gonna look especially stupid (even more than they already do) if they nominate a 2-time loser (if Joe actually pulls a victory next year) but they'll just claim voter fraud and the Usual nonsense and we'll get another J6 because wah wah whenever we lose it's because of something shady.

They're still around in the Northeast, mostly New England, but they're definitely getting close to extinct. Even in the Northeast, if you're not an established politician, you're probably not getting elected as a moderate.

Vivek has some charisma. De Santis has been hitting his Trump-lite lines. Christie got a good dig in on Vivek (last time a guy said that it was Obama), Pence is getting out his prepped lines and sounding angry no one else is standing out.

Vivek is a fucking nut and he's laying out the blueprint for future minority candidates in the GOP. The lines he was dropping were mostly getting eaten up with a spoon. He needs to finetune some of it depending on the state,.

Disappointed DeSantis didn't have a melt down on stage. Hopefully next time...

There's too many people on stage to get a proper meltdown although I thought Vivek came close when he got pressured a couple times. He clearly doesn't like being pressed. Pence doesn't handle it well either. Christie on the other hand loves it.

If Christie can survive long enough to make it down to the final 3 or 4, he might piss Trump off enough to debate but that is a pretty big if considering he gets nearly booed offstage at every one of these Republican gatherings.

I have a theory-probably a dumb one-that Christie knows he isn't going to win. So looking at the support he initially gave Trump, he's in legacy mode where he hopes he will be remembered as one of the Republicans who stood up to Trump instead of all the embarrassing shit. Again, it's a dumb theory. Also, most of the others are just hoping for a spot in his campaign or second administration.

He has openly admitted that he is running more to stop Trump than become POTUS. It’s foolish cause I don’t think the Republican Party will let him get close enough to where Trump will want to debate him.

I think the only other person there who's also trying to stop him/is in legacy mode is Pence, as he ended up becoming one of the reasons Trump isn't president. I also wouldn't be surprised if he's bitter because he was probably hoping being Vice President would be a ticket to the presidency either 1.) after Trumps time was up, 2.) if he kicked the bucket, or 3.) he fucked up so bad they'd have to remove him. None of that either will happen or hasn't happened and any dreams Pence may have had of becoming president are dead, so he probably hates him for that. Also, he probably sees this as revenge for Jan 6th and he and his family's lives being at risk on that day.

Another thing: Think before Trump went down that escalator, announced he was running and called Mexicans rapists. I say this because before that, you'd think Pence would be the top pick for right wing Evangelicals. He's literally one of them, and not just religiously-this is a man who okayed conversion therapy and like them thinks America should be an right wing Christian nation. However, he betrayed the God Emperor, so now they all hate his guts.

And Vivek dropped a point despite most conservatives thinking he “won” the debate lol.

Going from a conservative 44 point lead to 38 point lead probably doesn’t mean anything but hey, I guess it’s better than Trump’s lead going up after the last week?

Vivek will get more money and recognition which will allow him to hang in longer as well as attract Trump's attention for a possible VP bid. Dropping only a point is great news for him because the shit he was saying was so divisive and crazy.

I really think he is the Andrew Yang of this election cycle. More he talks, the dumber you realize he is. And no way Trump picks a 38 year old Hindu to be his running mate IMO.

He isn't just a one note gimmick like Yang was though. He knows exactly what the average republican wants to hear. Trump probably won't pick him as his VP but he's young and he's rich and this is just going to help him. His being a Hindu has also meant nothing so far. It never even comes up in anything I've seen with republicans. He's a monothestic Hindu who constantly talks about how America was built on christianity and the nuclear family. The average GOP voter puts his religion so far down the list of things they care about right now.

Yang was also a mix of non-threatening neo-liberal and a libertarian. Vivek is a mix of modern Republican talking points and more out there libertarian ideas (whether or not he's Ortonsault levels out there is up to you)
