Just read a report that AEW are keeping their 2025 PPV dates a secret so that WWE won't try to fuck with them by scheduling a show in the same city that same night.

That's goofy and impossible to do. As soon as tickets go on sale it's out.

Also I don't know how i feel about Daniels' final match not involving Styles. It just seems off, man.
Samoa Joe is also right there too. Kudos for him to eating a beat down in his last match but it’s not like this makes Hangman.

I usually don’t advocate for a sentimental farewell and we have had enough recently that it would ring hollow but when the guy is done and it’s just a garbage match with someone in a city that has no connective to him, it doesn’t hold much weight, eh.

Kudos to him all the same i guess. Great career with some great moments.

My theory is WWE will upload a lot of Daniels/Styles content and dude will end up getting a gig once his AEW contract is up. Not in ring but probably another GM thing somewhere.

It’s a good thing AEW and WWE workers never talk to each other and that there is literally no other way for WWE to find out what buildings AEW is running unless they announce it publicly!

Daniels was the unsung hero of the modern style.

In the late 90s, he was a popular indie figure before "indie wrestling" was a popular thing. I remember reading about him on Rajah and other dirtsheet sites before I came to the Smarks, and being excited when Daniels/Modest was on that Nitro in 2001.

In the 00s, he was foundational to the two key factors that shaped how American pro wrestling matches were worked. He helped establish Ring of Honor with the early rivalry between himself, LowKi, and Bryan Danielson. In TNA, he was a key figure in a great tag team (XXX) that lead to a resurgence of interest in tag wrestling across the scene, and then moved into the feuds with AJ Styles and Samoa Joe.

It's almost insane how underutilized he was in the business given how many great matches he was directly involved in.

I'd rather see Daniels last match be part of an interesting angle that benefits someone who is going to be a centerpiece of the company going forward than a farewell match with Joe that just reminds me of how great their previous matches were tbh. More guys should go out by putting over younger talent like this.

He's made but it still benefits him going forward. It makes sense with the storylines they have been doing. Doing Daniels vs Joe doesn't help anyone. It would be a nice moment but after that it's done. They need to build for the long-term. The more heat they put on Page the better off they are.

It's the retirement match of a legend whose career has directly impacted the very formation of the company. Without Daniels involvement with Styles/Joe/Ki/Bryan, we don't get to a point where the Elite even have enough clout to form AEW.

Maybe make his retirement match be something built to? Has there been some months-long Hangman/Daniels program I've somehow missed seeing any word about?

Yeah, I mean, even if you are charitable and feel Hangman will get any kind of rub an old ass Daniels can give, it's still a rushed TV match. It'd be like if they ran Angle/Corbin on Smackdown, only really good. I don't want an old timers match but this is not a fitting way to go out either.

There should be more build I agree but there may be reasons we don't know about for that. Maybe Daniels isn't able to do a longer program or needs to get surgery soon so this is the best option for him. The SRS report that's posted on Reddit also said that this is "likely" the end of his career which feels like he's leaving room open for an actual retirement match at some point.

Met Daniels at an indie show back in 2003. I got to the show early and was waiting in the lobby and saw him come into the building. I didn't have anything on me for him to sign except for my old ROH show ticket that was in my wallet. He graciously signed it and shook my hand. Classy dude. Still have that autograph too.

Ishii/Okada was solid stuff but they didn't set out to burn the house down. The 12 man was alright but aside from the ending it was mostly just there. Jericho is just a waste of space. Keith and Bill feel like they've really done their best to make something out of the nonsense but they've got so little to work with.

The way they booked Hobbs in this was interesting just because it's very different than how they usually book. I'm down with getting him over as a face monster. Unlike Wardlow who they did this with before, Hobbs can actually work and has some promo ability. They should have done this far sooner.

I'm not sure if Daniels could do a workrate match with AJ anymore. He looks physically shot at times (Still can nail the Best Moonsault Ever though). The match with Hangman was great and a story based match helped make Daniels look good. Hangman is also on fire and has been for a while. Great match, and imo probably the best match Daniels could have at this point. If It's his last match, it's a great note to go out on.

Ishii/Okada was mostly them going through the motions. Not worth seeking out.

12 Man tag was okay. Standard multiman tag match. Jericho was hidden well. Not excited for Edge vs Mox, but Edge vs PAC on Dynamite sounds interesting. Hobbs was protected and looked badass.

Ishii got hurt in the Okada match, so that might be why it was so short and nondescript. Sounds like a minor injury at least.

I haven't seen that anywhere whatsover. I wouldn't be bothered by it if it WAS true though. She's been completely outclassed by all the women who have come into the company over the years (and many women who were there at the start have improved past her) and feels like she has nothing much left to offer. If she were to go to WWE or whoever she'd have a chance to do something fresh.

I also always disliked her promo style. It felt like the HHH-style where you focus on your opponents actual issues and bury them rather than a real wrestling promo. AEW's women's division is probably the biggest bright spot in the company, so I don't think losing her would hurt at least in the star power sense.

That said unless it's reported by someone like SRS or Ibou, I wouldn't believe it.

There's a pwtorch report that Tony isn't booking her because she's hard to work with (not news) and all the women hate her (also not really news). So she's probably going to end up like Miro, Ricky Starks, Black and Fenix and end up leaving when her contract is up.

Some of those people will be loses (Fenix) but others I think just were bigger headaches than they were ever worth (Miro) and if WWE or TNA wants to deal with them than everyone is better off.

Good riddance to Britt Baker. I've never really been impressed by her in the ring or on the mic. Her matches would always kill the flow of a great AEW PPV imo.

I think WWE will be interested, but I can't see her going that far since Charlotte pretty much does the same thing character wise, but is way better in the ring.
