I pre-ordered the Google Nexus 7 2 from Bestbuy and chose in-store pick up. The thing launched today, and so today...they shipped the thing from wherever to my store, and I'll see it in like a week or something. And of course they have them in stock at my store, but I've already been charged for the one I ordered and am stuck waiting. Fucking brilliant web ordering system they have there.

My netbook won't charge anymore and I think it's the charging pin since the charger works fine. I don't even know if it's worth repairing since I barely use it anymore, but I still have some files I didn't transfer to my tablet that I don't want to lose.

I wish that speech to text never existed. My father-in law doesn't ever type anything, he just talks to it. This leads to brilliant sentences like: "He was raised sleep in living room for now I'm going to put them to bed"

You can take it apart and take out the hard drive. Then you can add it to your desktop to transfer the files or you can get an external hard drive cradle.

I was watching the Braves game on my computer yesterday and had to go to the living room, meaning I needed to switch to the x-box or ps3 if I wanted to watch the end of it. I tried x-box first, but because INTEGRATION EVERYTHING SHOULD BE ONE ACCOUNT THE FUTURE +1 I had had to change my msn messenger password on my pc, and this affected my x-box live account, and I couldn't log in. After finally giving up I loaded the ps3, which required both an mlb.tv app update, and then a long ps3 firmware update. The game was over before I hit 20% on the download. Fuck technology.

The DSL company here offers up to 10mbps, but in my area they only offer up to 3mbps. (I don't know a ton about DSL but I think that means they don't have aDSL available yet where I live?) 3mbps is $90 a month. 10 is $110, both unlimited usage. So I can't fucking justify paying $90 for 3mbps, it's not fast enough for my needs anyway but at $50 I would probably bite the bullet. My alternative is the cable company, with these bullshit plans:
10mbps, 10gb usage, $30.
12mbps, 60gb usage, $50
15mbps, 100gb usage, $60
18mbps, 150gb usage, $80
22mbps, 200gb usage, $110
22mbps, 250gb usage, $135
22mbps, 300gb usage, $160
50mbs, 500gb usage, $200.

BUT WAIT! That's the package price, and you have to have a 2 year contract. (DSL company only required 1 year). month to month prices are higher (but not listed), the non package prices are $10 higher each, AND BECAUSE FUCK YOU CUSTOMER NO SERIOUSLY WE FUCKING HATE YOU AND HOPE YOU DIE PAINFULLY AFTER WE RAPE YOUR FAMILY IN FRONT OF YOU FUCK YOU HITLER SHOULD HAVE CLENSED THE INTERNET CONSUMER there's an ADDITION $11.99 fee per month if you don't have TV through them. So I won't have the bandwidth to use the internet to replace TV AND I'll be charged $22 fucking dollars extra for daring not to have TV through them. Plus whatever the extra cost is for month to month, all for the privledge of having limited bandwidth and will constantly be worrying about overages. Or I can do a package with TV and I'm fairly certainly there's no month to month on the packages.

Fuck life.

Oh, also it's quite possible that there isn't an internet + tv plan, there's internet + cellphone or internet + cellphone + tv. We have cellphones on a family plan with someone who doesn't live in the state and have no desire to change cell providers (plus having to get new phones) so just saying fuck it and getting cable tv and internet might not even be a fucking option (though it would save me the $11.99 fee OMFGLOLROFLCOPTERBUTTSEX).

Murder.

Just as another FUCK YOU HAHAHAHA from these companies, the DSL company's 4Mbps is the same price as the 3. But of course 4 isn't available everywhere. HAHAHA FUCK YOU GIVE US MONEY.

I can not express in words how angry I am right now. Like the moron that I am I had just been assuming that the 10Mbps DSL would be available to me, so I've been in quite a rage since they told me it isn't.

Back home our DSL is 6mpbs @ 150gb per month for $65. Then $10 for every 50 after that. Our bills were usually about $110 or so I'd guess.

Overage rates with the cable company vary by plan, starting at $.01/MB ($5/GB) and getting cheaper the more expensive package you have, down to $1/GB. BUT of course because there's always something, they're higher if you don't have a bundle, because everything must cost more if you don't follow divine right and buy a god damned bundle. Starting at $10/GB down to $2/GB. It also wouldn't surprise me if overage rates are higher if you're month to month, but it doesn't say. At this point I would murder someone to have your plan and price.

Before I moved out of my parents' house, they were on a satellite provider through Dish Network. For $75/month, we received a whopping 10MB/sec, 15GB for peak usage, and an additional 15GB for off-peak usage (2-8 AM). Between me, and both my parents, this was usually burned up within 2 weeks. Once it was burned up, it dropped to dial-up speed. The bullshit thing was Comcast was available in our area, but the cutoff was less than a mile up the road.

Now that I've moved, I pay $40/month for unlimited 20MB/sec cable internet. It's really sad how these satellite companies take advantage of people that live in the woods. Then again, I had been begging my parents for years to move a little closer to town, but my Dad would have none of it.

The hoops you need to jump through to transfer music from an IPod to a computer are ridiculous. Fuck you, Apple.

I've seen software (like iDump) that can help with transferring music to PC, especially if it comes to pulling songs off of multiple iPods from different Apple IDs...in case you want to get something out of your friend's library without forcing them to break out intermediary devices or having to upload to online services like Dropbox. That said, I haven't actually used that program in like two or three years so I'm not even sure it exists anymore, though I would assume that there is probably something out there similar.

A happy resolution to my shitty internet (well, happy enough I guess): The cable companies bullshit pricing bullshit of bullshitness was just so anger provoking I bit the bullet and said fuck it I'll take 3mbps from the DSL company for $90. I went to sign up and this time the lady said I could get 4mbps, and it'll be $60 for the first year because of a sale going on. That sale ended the prior month, so I assumed A. I'd actually get 3 and B. pay $90 the whole time. But the installation just happened and I do infact get 4, and for the discounted price for a year. It's still not really fast enough, but it's better than I thought I'd get so I'm as happy as I was going to be out of this situation.

Had a hard drive failure in late July/Early August on my macbook pro. For a few weeks prior I kept hearing an occasional grinding type noise. Then one day the speed on the computer nose dived. It would take 5 minutes to open a folder. Had a friend swap it out for me.

It is now mid-November and it's making the grinding noise again, started last night. It's almost constant.

The hell am I doing wrong?

I moved to a house in mid July and my landlord who lives upstairs has an unsecured wifi connection. So I've been using that every day, mostly just watching Netflix & Youtube on the PS3. I finally got a new laptop a few days ago and since the following day, haven't been able to connect to her network. It's not password protected still, so I dont know what the issue is. Either way, I can't just tell her to fix it. I should just get wifi already.

I tried to remote connect with my grandma on the East Coast. I couldn't get it to work and I'm not sure what was wrong.

CBC HD is coming in 4:3 on my TV, even though the broadcast is high-def. I can hit the format button to force it to 16:9 (and incredibly, it doesn't distort it, it shows it in high-def), but doing this will cause all my low-def channels to be stretched 4:3 (which I abhor). It's the only HD channel that has this problem; I've always set my aspect ratio to "native" without any headaches.

Some motherfucker in my apartment building, or nearby, has managed to crack my Wifi password, and has torrented a shitton of porn leading ME to receiving a cease and desist from my ISP, since it's all coming from my IP! I'm having to change usernames and passwords tonight. It's great to be me!

It hadn't really occurred to me how easy password cracking is to do until I Googled it earlier. Any tips on how to prevent this from happening again, or should I just switch to hard wiring everything?

Changing your password frequently is good but it's a pain in the ass to do if you have more than a couple devices using it. One thing I like to do is set the router so it doesn't broadcast the SSID. I don't know if it actually makes it harder to get into but I've always heard that it does.

I guess I'm going to have to do that. This is a first for me. I've stayed out of "trouble" my entire life, and this freaked me out a good bit. I just have to update my username and password for my phone, game systems, TV, etc.

So my girlfriend bought me a cheap RCA DVD player with surround sound for Christmas.
Basically the speakers are designed to work for the DVD, but through an optical cable I can use it for my TV or PS3.
Problem is if I try to play a DVD it makes this low whining sound that it doesn't make on the TV or PS3. I haven't figured out what it is or how to troubleshoot it. Guess I don't really need the DVD though because I have the PS3.

Yes. I bemoaned this to a friend last week. He's still teasing me about how I paid for Limewire in 2006 (Yes, I paid for Limewire), but he conceded "Third-party apps to get songs off my Ipod? I dunnnnnnnnnoooooooooo". My Ipod's starting to age, and I, too, am petrified of using a third-party app to get anything off my Ipod onto my PC (all the songs I'd downloaded were on my old PC). So, I may just write down every band and/or album on my current Ipod and re-download them. I should have this taken care of by November. Of 2017.

Not sure why this slipped my mind but you can set your router to only allow known devices. So your phone and computers etc. are cool but unknown devices are out. Or at least check the logs and see oh hey I don't recognize that device, time to change the password again!

I didn't know I could do that I will be looking into how to only allow known devices as soon. As I get settled for the night.
