Anthrax and Motorhead are touring together and coming here in September. So tempting but I already blew a lot of money on shows this summer. I'm hoping I can make it.

Where are they playing? I'd be interested just for Motorhead. I like Anthrax, but I love Motorhead.

They're playing at Jones Beach on Sept. 16th if you wanna make the drive but they're playing in the city on the 20th which is the one I'd go to. Venue hasn't been announced yet (though if I had to take a guess, it'll probably be the Best Buy theater).

Awolnation was pretty great live. Better than on recording, that's for damn sure. Aaron Bruno's a natural frontman but it was pretty hilarious how the between-song banter always felt like it was the end of the set. "Boston, we love you, you're beautiful..." and then another song. I couldn't tell you a damn thing about the opening bands beyond both having cute female keyboard players.

Also ran into a friend that I haven't seen in a few years but I was tight with in high school. All in all a damn good night and worth being late to work this morning (in true Masshole fashion, though, the near hour long drive only took about 40 minutes).

This was my first time in the House of Blues and will probably be my last. Holy shit that venue is bad. It was almost impossible to get a good vantage point from the second floor and security wasn't letting anybody go between floors (because "general admission" means something different in 2015).

Mighty Mighty Bosstones tomorrow night. This will be my second time seeing them. First was about 5 years ago. Very excited to get my skank on!

The Zombies are reuniting and playing Odyssey & Oracle in its entirety plus the rest of their greatest hits. They're playing Boston on October 6th. Mighty tempting to see that one but kind of tapped. This might be a once in a lifetime chance though since those dudes are up there in age.

I saw them back in '08 and they fucking rocked. They performed Dissident Aggressor. Showed Slayer how it's really done.

Smashing Pumpkins & Marilyn Manson are touring together this summer.

I kind of want to see it because apparently, I'm a 15 year old from 1998...

So I went to this last night! I got a ticket for $30 on Groupon, though if I had waited I could have got it cheaper. This is actually the second time I saw Manson this year, as I saw him in Bethlehem in January, but I wouldn't have gone then if I knew he was touring with the Pumpkins this summer. I like Manson but not enough to see him twice in one calendar year. Especially when that year is 2015! But I wanted to see the Pumpkins too, and I wasn't able to during their last tour, and I couldn't pass up this deal. I think I liked Manson better the second time around because he did more of his wacky stage antics. He sang "Sweet Dreams" while walking on stilts! During "Antichrist Superstar," he burned a bible! Edgy!

The Pumpkins now have an all-male lineup. It's Corgan, Chamberlin and two other dudes. Not that I support traditional gender roles, but I do feel that the bassist for Smashing Pumpkins should always be a woman. SORRY, THAT'S HOW I WAS RAISED. They opened with "Cherub Rock," "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" and "Tonight, Tonight," all in a row. They also did "Zero," "Disarm," "1979," "Mayonaise," "Stand Inside Your Love," "Ava Adore," and some new songs (all of which were pretty good, actually) but they did not play "Today." Apparently that's been the encore at many of their shows this summer but they had to cut it out of the setlist because of the PNC Bank Arts Center's strict 11PM curfew. Rather, they closed with the song "United States" from 2007's Zeitgeist. Forsaking your signature song for a ten-minute jam from one of your worst albums? Why not! During "Disarm" and "1979" two different fans crashed the stage. Billy remarked that the next person to come up on stage was getting a guitar upside the head. I think we now know whose idea it was to bring Jarrett back to TNA! Easily one of the top five concerts I have been to.

Hey BUTT! I saw Van Halen tonight. Love their setlist for this tour. Nice blend of deep cuts (opening with "Light Up The Sky"! "Dirty Movies"! "In A Simple Rhyme") with their greatest hits. Kind of bummed they left "Jamie's Cryin'" out of the setlist but otherwise great.

It drizzled for 75% of the show but the last half hour, it turned into a thunder storm and torrential downpour. Seeing and hearing Eddie Van Halen play "Eruption" during a thunderstorm is pretty much the greatest thing to ever happen to me. David Lee Roth was in top, drunk uncle form with some pretty wacky stage raps. Although underrated moment of the night is when I was leaving the venue and I over heard a stereotypical, older Maine dude say "I woulda ratha have seen the Red Rockah"

BUTT, you'll love the show. Only complaint is Kenny Wayne Shepard Band is kind of a bland opener.

About Van Halen, does Roth ever sing any of the Haggar material? I know Haggar would bust out Jump every so often.

Sir Mix-A-Lot is coming at the end of October, and evidently this is big news to people I know.

Superjoint Ritual is coming here on October 30th with Prong and this band right here.

After further research I guess there is a local band with the same name and they are pretty awful. Total bro-metal style. Ugh. Good thing I want to see Superjoint Ritual, otherwise this would be a total disappointment. At least now I know I don't need to bother to show up at the very beginning.

Also, Black Sabbath in February. Tickets were pretty expensive for seats that aren't that great but I'll be damned if I miss Ozzy and Tony performing together.

So it looks like Sir Mix A Lot will be here next month, then Superjoint Ritual, then Down. Going to be a hell of a finish to 2015.

Oh man, this was pretty awesome. Definitely let out my teenage self. The crowd got a little too obnoxious at points with the shoving and stage rushing but overall, it was full of energy. Also, I see Tim Armstrong is now channeling Kerry King with his appearance.

Ace Frehley was pretty good outside of a few, annoying & drunk magilla gorillas shoving there way up front that security didn't do anything about. They did tell a 5 foot tall, sixtysomething dude to put out the joint he was smoking. That's p. much how a General Admission concert by an ex-member of KISS goes in 2015.

Ace was pretty good but setlist wasn't as adventurous as it was when I saw him in 2012. Would've liked some stuff off Dynasty and Unmasked. The City of Boston also didn't let Ace use his smoking guitar. "What the fuck!? It's not even real smoke?"- Space Ace

I haven't seen a concert in Boston in ages now that I think about it. Most of the ones I have seen have been either at huge arenas or indie clubs like Paradise Rock Club where's crowds are less unruly or harder to notice.

I go to comedy shows in Boston once a year or so and I notice security there is more overzealous than it is in Portland.

So this show was fucking amazing. I had never seen them live before so I had no idea what to expect.. but I was blown away. I can't think of any other word aside from "epic" that really describes seeing this band live. I wish I was able to get tickets to the second show that happened on the 26th.
