Concerts coming to your area: Good and Bad

Both The Cure and Iron Maiden announced they're coming to MSG next year. I'm going to go so bankrupt and it'll be worth every second.

Cradle of Filth will be here in February. I know they are reviled by much of the metal community, but I dig 'em and they put on a hell of a live show/act.

I was really into them in high school. Midian was one of my favorite albums for awhile. I even saw that film they made several times. Then I kind of grew out of them and Dani Filth has always been kind of a tool. If someone offered me a free ticket, I'd see them. I'm sure they're quite a sight live.

Unless my buddy backs out, I'll be seeing Dragonforce and Kamelot next weekend in Atlanta.

Honestly, I am not even too familiar with their latest/later stuff. But I really like their earlier stuff like this:

And like I said, I really appreciate that they are one of the few extreme-metal acts that put on an actual stage show with all sorts of stuff going on, as opposed to the usual "stand there shredding and head banging" not that there is anything wrong with that, but both times I have seen CoF in the past it was a really fun time to watch the stage act itself too.

Holy shit, Judas Priest was fucking KILLER. Like, possibly one of the best shows I've ever seen; setlist was fucking CRAZY good (literally every track I wanted to hear got played) and I cannot fucking BELIEVE how good Rob Halford is. Like, JESUS CHRIST. The man is in his 60's but he hit every single fucking note like it was nothing.

So, so fucking good. 10X better then I expected.

Andrew W.K. is performing a special Christmas show next month in Brooklyn and tickets are super cheap so I jumped on it.

Saw Kamelot and Dragonforce in Atlanta last night. This was the 4th time I've seen Kamelot, and they were as solid as they always have been. I've never seen Dragonforce live, but I always wondered how their 900 mph guitars translated live. I've heard that they have good nights and bad, where the guitars sound album quality or it sounds like someone who never touched a guitar hitting random frets.

Well, what can I say? I'm impressed. Herman Li and the other guy must have had a solid night, and the band as a whole sounded really nice. They closed the set with "Through the Fire and the Flames", and it sounded even better than the album version. A highlight of their set was the keyboard player picking up a headless guitar and joining the other two guitarists for an insane guitar battle in the middle of "Heroes of Our Time".

On a sad note, the frontman talked about the attacks in Paris, and mentioned that their bass player's best friend was among the dead. With the help of nearly a quart of Fireball, he put on a brave face and worked through their set.

Great show all around though, and I would gladly see Dragonforce again.

I'm super tempted to go see the Black Dahlia Murder with Goatwhore and Iron Reagan, but Cambridge is a fucking hike and a half from Providence, even more so on a Thursday night.

Superjoint Ritual was really good, better than I expected. I am not sure if laying off the harder drugs has made a difference but Anslemo's range in his voice seems to be back. My friend saw them a few years back and said he was sounding rough but thought he was really good this time around.

Cure tickets along with Tool tickets go on sale on Saturday morning, before I'll be able to cash my check. So pissed.

So Megadeth announced two shows in NYC next month with Suicidal Tendencies and Children of Bodom opening. I don't care much for COB anymore and I already saw them live (opened for Slayer in '06) but I would be interested in seeing what a 2015 ST act would sound like.

As for Megadeth, their last album was really, REALLY bad and Dave Mustaine has proven to be quite the wackjob over the past few years but they're still the only big 4 band I haven't seen live and I like their older stuff enough to know that I'd probably enjoy myself. I may have to swallow my pride and just give Mustaine my money one last time.

Megadeth are awful live. There's obviously a lot more studio magic done with them, particularly when it comes to Dave's voice, than other bands of the era.

Going to see Brian Wilson's Pet Sounds 50th Anniversary tour show at City Hall in Portland in June. Definitely a bucket list show. Al Jardine's going to be there too. I saw the other two surviving original Beach Boys (plus practically an original dude, Bruce Johnston) last summer and seeing Brian & Al Jardine (plus short lived, early '70s Beach Boys frontman Blondie Chaplin thrown in the band) this summer. Very psyched for this!

My parents went to that show when it was in NY recently. Beach Boys is my dad's favorite band, and he's ween Brian Wilson perform a few times over the past couple of years. He said that Jardine being there put this show over the others.

Summer of 2016 is gonna be a friggin great summer for me seeing dad rock bands! A week before I see Brian Wilson perform Pet Sounds,I'm heading up Bangor to see Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band. Have never seen a Beatle live before so I'm pumped even if/especially since it's the 'Go.

Dave Matthews Band is playing across the street that same night. Maybe Ringo will head over there after his show and take a few verses on "Crash Into Me".

Saw a billboard that Salt N Pepa are playing a free show at a local gambling hall

Kamala - let's go and midshow start yelling questions about Wrestlemania XI!

I said gambling hall because keep getting the Forbidden message when I say the C word

How many Hawaiian shirts do you own, Kamala?
The Beach Boys are playing the Maine State Pier for second summer in a row. This time with opening act, The Temptations. Need more Hawaiian shirts stat.

They just announced Hall & Oates with Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings and Trombone Shorty as opening acts is playing Bangor Waterfront in July but I might be on my road trip of Midwest then. BULL SHIT!

I saw Hall & Oates a few months back. They had been on my bucket list forever. I go to a lot of shows of has-beens and even cover bands of has-beens, and always have a good time. But they did not put on a good show.

I've heard mixed reviews of their live show. One of my friends say they only do 75 minutes, which is criminally short considering their amount of hits. 75 minutes might be fine if you're super old like Willie Nelson but they're my dad's age. Still it's one of those acts where I love enough of their songs where it's worth it just to say I've seen him plus they've got two very strong opening acts

Mike Love's version of The Beach Boys are coming back this summer in July with opening act The Temptations. This will be a great summer for Grandpa Rock. I think this show & the Hall & Oates show might be while I'm doing my tour of Michigan, Illinois, and Ohio but I will groove to some oldies this summer.

Exmortus and Amon Amarth are hitting Boston on 4/23. The week before, it's Napalm Death and the Melvins. I'll skip ND/Melvins because I'm not the biggest fan of either, but Exmortus' first album is incredible and Amon Amarth put on a great live show.
