Concerts coming to your area: Good and Bad

Went check out The Cure tonight. Good show. I don't really know too much of their repertoire but the Mrs. is a fan. One of my pleasures in life is live music and watching her enjoy the music she enjoys. I'm weird.

They are very entertaining but do not have a whole lot of crowd interaction.

They did four encores. FOUR. They started around 8:30 and it was after 11 by the start of their fourth return to the stage. They had already played all of her favorites so we started heading for the doors.

Definitely a good show and got maximum value for our dollar. Their current bassist is very mobile and the most visually entertaining (I mean they ARE an older act) and I was surprised to learn via Wikipedia that he is 55.

Opening act was "The Twilight Sad." I've never heard of them but research tells me they've been around a while. I liked them well enough. They're post punk pop Scottish and I really appreciate that they do not lose their accent while singing. Know what I mean? Some acts just lose their accents when singing. These guys don't, and they sound really good.

I saw them a few years ago at MSG. Great show, but very long, and yeah, they don't interact with the audience much. Maybe a few things here or there, but it was pretty much 3 1/2 hours of them performing.

Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band tonight friggin ruled. First time I went to a concert with my parents in years and it ruled. It's basically two hours of Ringo songs and random dad rock hits of the '60s, '70s, and '80s.

Just scored a ticket to Silversun Pickups on July 30!

Also: Prophets of Rage tickets acquired for August. Shaping up to be a good summer. :)

Saw The Cure tonight at MSG and it was amazing. One of the best shows I've been to in awhile. They played for three hours and the time just passed. What shocked me was that they played a lot of their hits in the first third of their setlist and I did not expect them to play "burn" (the song from The Crow) at all.

Good lord. This might be the bill from Hell. Why? WHY!?

(At least, three TSMers are going to reply by saying "You know what? I'd like to see this show!")

So Temple of the Dog announced their first ever tour as a group. Five dates in the US, nothing in Canada.. so I entered the Ten Club draw for tickets to the NYC show. Crossing fingers now.

Friend got last minute tickets to see Prophets of Rage tonight. Hey, if this is the closest I'll ever get to seeing RATM, I'll take it.

I got an email from Live Nation offering free tix to the Prophets of Rage show last night at PNC, but I didn't feel like driving that far for the second time in a week. But I did see Sabbath on Tuesday, and I managed to get a 17th row ticket for a total of $15 (had an offer for a $20 lawn ticket, used a $15 off code and then upgraded to section 101 on the day of the show). As a cheap bastard this was one of my proudest moments, and it was a p. based concert too.

Also, my friend bought me and a bunch of friends tickets to Weird Al in September. Oh boy!

This was pretty damn fun. Way more interesting than I was expecting. I got a kick of them playing every single clip that had a passing mention of Al in between songs so he can do costume changes. I'm sure people were upset that we only got one verse of "Eat It" and it was acoustic at that!

I'm presently sitting at a free outdoor festival in North Augusta, SC, headlined by Tonic and The Gin Blossoms. My inner 13 year old is hyped!

Edit: Tonic was surprisingly quite solid. The music itself from the Gin Blossoms sounded really good, but their vocalist's voice has suffered over time

Overall, you can't beat a free show and my wife and I had a good time.

Saw Red Hot Chili Peppers last night. Had a good time. Last saw them 25 years ago. I really enjoyed the opening act Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue. They really got the crowd going and I will look into them more now.

Will be seeing Bush in June, Lionel Richie/Mariah Carey in July, Green Day in August. And trying to talk my wife into Roger Waters also in June.

Yeah, I saw RHCP a few weeks ago at MSG and it was surprisingly really good. I've always been a big fan but this was the first time I saw them and thought that since they're over two decades removed from their prime, that they'd phone it in but I was shocked at how much fun I had. I marked out over "Soul To Squeeze" and was shocked they did "Aeroplane" since I thought they completely disowned that era in their career.

Seeing Pixies in May.

Everclear is touring with Fastball and Vertical Horizon this summer. I'll be on vacation when they hit NY but you bet your ass I would have been there if I wasn't away!

I wasn't able to get to any shows last year (first time since 1995 that I didn't go to at least one show), but it looks like this year I will start up again. My buddy's band, who opened for Fozzy a few years back, will be playing on Long Island this summer opening for Dokken!

Warrant & Dokken is one of the opening shows next month at the new concert venue in Portland that my friends work at. Might go. Those are two of my favorite hair metal bands. Maybe I'll pull a Kinsey and Hammerjack a Cougar. 8)

Jani Lane died like five years ago. Some guy named Robert Mason, who replaced the dude who replaced Jani when he got fired for being a fuckup, is lead vocalist now.

Surprised Warrant's only on their second replacement for Jani and that all of the other dudes are more or less originals tbh

I don't like Warrant but Uncle Tom's Cabin is a legit good song and also there's this:

My son had an extra ticket to Panic at the Disco so I went to that tonight. Don't know much about their music but it was a fun show and I enjoyed their Queen and Billy Joel covers.
