I saw Panic live before they hit it big-ish. It was a fun show. Haven't thought about them in forever.

Just got some info about a Coolio/Tone Loc concert in Laughlin, Nevada - really don't know how I could say no!

Bush came to my area back in 99 as a literal 11th hour substitute for Korn, because our mayor at the time forbade Korn from playing after they were booked. Bush just happened to be travelling up I-20 the day of the show, and between gigs, stopped to play a set.

I went to see Metallica last Friday in Dallas, TX. They still know how to rock, I just wish the tickets and merch weren't so god damn expensive.

Anyone ever seen Brit Floyd, supposedly the best Pink Floyd tribute band out there? Going to see them at an amphitheater near my apartment next Tuesday.

Alsp, I'm very stoked as a Primus/Clutch double bill is coming here too early August. Primus was my first live show in '93 (technically a part of Lollapalooza that year w/ Alice In Chains, Tool, Rage Against the Machine, etc) and seen them pushing a dozen times live. Claypool never leaves the crowd unsatisfied.

Debating on Guns n Roses and U2 seperately as well. Both are playing in the new Vikings stadium here.

Also considering finally going to Lollapallooza in Chicago this year, at least first night headlined by Muse.

Crazy Town are playing at a tiny bar right by my apartment in September. Tickets are $18 which is $17 more than I'm willing to spend to see a couple of drug addicts. Pass.

I saw Mariah Carey and Lionel Richie at the end of July. Mariah was probably lip syncing, and the video screen never showed her close up, but I loved her show. I had seen Lionel a couple years ago and that was one of my favorite shows ever. This time didn't deliver.

I saw hometown band Green Day at the Oakland Coliseum last Saturday. Pretty good turnout for an outside show. It was a very fun show. They had fans from the crowd come up at different times to sing and one even got to pay guitar. Not sure if they were plants but it was pretty cool for the live crowd.

My dad has decided to tell me today that he went to this. He has a lot of great stories too and I think after I share them in the chat a few days from now I'll copy them over to here.

Apparently this guy has a pretty decent following. He's playing a local semi-major venue in the next few days.
My friend's band is opening for him so a few of us are going check it out.

Absolute blast. Laughed my ass off. Had a good spot that he kept looking in my direction when he'd ask the crowd shit. Asked who had a library card, said I looked like I was lying. He made another person prove it, then held on to their library card the whole set. The person left without it. ;D After the set he shot the shit with a few of us and said he actually has a huge collection of library cards at home from people that forget to retrieve them after the show. He said they make great mementos of where he's been.

I actually met him before the gig, out of character, and he shook my hand and introduced himself by his given name. My friend whispered, "That's him, you know." Clearly, thanks dude. Complete class act. Would recommend.

DMX is coming here next week.

I'm seriously considering going!

So I went to this:

- DMX didn't hit the stage until 11:30. The show was supposed to start at 9 and some of his crew kept coming on the mic and saying "DMX is on his way". People in the crowd joked that he was being arrested.

- They had some low-level MC's rap a few verses to hype the crowd up. One of them actually got boo'ed pretty hard as he just kept rambling instead of rapping.

- Crowd got really restless around 10:30-11:00 and started to chant his name.

- X finally hit the stage and it seemed like all was forgiven. The first thing I noticed that there were like 50 people all crammed on this small stage. X rolls deep!

- He opened with "We Right Here" and closed with "Party Up". No "X 'Gon Give It To Ya" or "What's My Name?".

- His security detail kept following his every move on stage. Tt was funny when X went to the ends of the stage to sing to the crowd and this giant 300 pound dude trails behind him.

- X kept preaching and rambling on about nonsense between songs. For some reason, he performed his guest verse in "Money, Power, and Respect" and his mic went out and the show stalled for a few minutes.

- He only performed for an hour and didn't do any full tracks. Just a few verses from a selection of his hits. Better than nothing, sure, but very disappointing.

Not the best concert experience. I don't think I'll be going to a hip-hop show anytime soon. Ja Rule is performing at the same venue next week. Yeah, no thanks.

I'm flying to Vegas tomorrow to see Whodini. They were at the first concert I went to back in 1985. The headliner is Bell Biv Devoe, who I saw at some point in the 90s, EPMD, who I saw back in 88-89, and Biz Markie.

Last year, Live Nation put together a concert series called "Ticket to Rock" with three shows: Deftones/Rise Against, Incubus/Jimmy Eat World, and Offspring/Sublime w/ Rome. I went to the Offspring show and had a good time even though the new "Sublime" was utterly forgettable.

They're doing it again this year but with four shows instead of three: Aveneged Sevenfold/Prophets of Rage, Five Finger Death Punch/Breaking Benjamin, Godsmack/Shinedown, and Rob Zombie/Marilyn Manson.

That's a pretty wretched list. The only show I would even consider seeing is Zombie/Manson as I've still yet to see either artist. I need to hear Thunderkiss '65 live before I die, man!

Breaking Benjamin is really damn good live, so there's that.

We have Daughtry in my town tonight.

Highly recommend seeing Zombie live. He put on a killer set when I saw him (granted that was 17 years ago), playing his big solo stuff and the WZ classics ("Thunderkiss '65," "More Human Than Human," and even "Electric Head Pt. I" IIRC). I've heard Manson is always great live, too.

Just got back from seeing Brian Fallon in Detroit. Whether it’s solo work or with The Gaslight Anthem, the guy kills it every time.

Nine Inch Nails are touring the states this summer. That's nothing unusual but they're doing it super old school and ONLY selling tickets at the box office. No online sale to prevent scalpers. I'm a big fan but I don't want to wait on line for hours for tickets to see a band I've seen multiple times already. I have a friend who is a superfan and actually offered me money to do it since he's out of town. I passed.

I saw NIN in Newark about five years ago. The show was a big production with a really cool lighting rig, but they played 9 tracks from their mediocre then-new album Hesitation Marks, and I'm guessing the shows later this year will feature a heavy emphasis on the three recent EPs. Interesting that they're doing smaller venues this time around, and I don't know if that's Trent's choice or just being realistic about the level of ticket demand. I'm guessing next year they'll do larger arenas and/or amphitheaters, either with a co-headliner or MAYBE doing a 25th anniversary "playing The Downward Spiral in full" gimmick, but I'll just wait until then.

The Ataris are coming to a really shitty bar downtown. I've got no real interest, but this girl does, so I'm mulling. I just have this fear of getting stabbed or something during their shitty "Boys Of Summer" cover. That kinda bar.
