It's kind of a misconception that Sweden doesn't do social distancing. They have still closed high schools and colleges and canceled gatherings of more than 50 people. It's just they haven't closed bars & restaurants (who offer table service only), gyms, and elementary & preschools. I think they have a relatively young for Europe and very healthy population though.

That being said, I think it'd good news cause I think this is probably approach America is headed for this Summer & Fall. Barring Florida & Georgia don't ruin this for everybody...

Is this with or without crowds? I can see things going down with crowds this year but of course it all depends on respective locations allowing the games to go on and the players and staff feeling safe.

The consensus I've read online from athletes in various sports is that they have no interest in playing in empty arenas but I suppose it's possible that sports could resume that way. It would still involve an incredible amount of coordination especially given that Canada has been taking much stronger measures against COVID and there is an overwhelming consensus right now amongst our population that we don't want the border re-opened to anything aside from trade with the U.S.

I produce a weekly basement comedy show here in Portland, ME. We pack 50 to 75 people in like sardines every week. I'd be absolutely shocked if we were running our weekly shows again in the next year and a half. I honestly am not sure if I (and a lot of the comics that are on my show) will still want to do comedy after a year and a half off.

I think we'll get some of the big 4 sports in the next year and a half in crowdless forms but I'm not sure if they'll be full seasons. Maybe truncated versions or big tournaments just to keep the players in shape.

I think the players will come around once they realize no spectators may be the only way they will play. I guess it would be up to the players associations at some point.

LOTC, I heard hockey was going to try and come back in June - obviously the Canada thing applies to them the most.

Sadly, with the weather starting to get nicer, I think people desperately wanting to enjoy summer will outweigh their need to stay indoors. I can see restrictions start to be lifted in June with emphasis on precautions and people being dummies and abusing everything. We'll be right back to square one in no time.

There is a contingent of the players that are not as focused on being crowdless as much as being against the requirement to keep them in a quarantined athlete’s village essentially, away from their families for the designated stretch of the season and unable to see them due to how quarantines would be regulated. It isn’t like a few weeks in an Olympics, or going on a long road trip, it is having to live in a hotel and away from your family for months.

Ugh. It is distressing. How many service industry business owners, not just in the MAGA parts of the state but in Portland too can't really see the forest for the trees. Our infection rates are low because of our Governor has been doing a pretty decent job of listening to scientists and epidemiologists.

If we open things up for the summer business as usual then we're just going to invite a bunch of MAGA chuds to come here and frolic and get us all sick. SMDH.

It's inevitable we're going to be one of the most fucked states in the country cause OUR ENTIRE ECONOMY IS CONTINGENT ON THE TOURISM INDUSTRY but it is possible to recover from ECONOMIC DEATH but it is not possible to recover from ACTUAL DEATH!
