https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/07/hydroxychloroquine-fails-to-help-hospitalized-coronavirus-patients-in-us-government-funded-study.html

Hydroxychloroquine Fails to Help Coronavirus Patients in Largest Study of the Drug to Date: Hydroxychloroquine administration was not associated with either a greatly lowered or an increased risk of the patients on ventilators or death; meaning it should not be wasted on COVID-19 patients.

Bad news for the "REOPEN THE ECONOMY NOW!" crowd. Their shining example of KEEPING THE ECONOMY OPEN Sweden is not doing so hot, in terms of death toll or THE ECONOMY.

All the bars and restaurants I drove by last night were packed. I also live down the street from an apartment building for seniors that's had a lot of families going in and out today and yesterday for what I assume are Mothers' Day visits.

I'm just so tired.

Idk this kind of drives home why I'm ambivalent about masks laws. Cops are absolutely not the type of person who should take authority during a health crisis and it's definitely gonna target black and brown people (and to a lesser extent, poor whites)

I saw two maskless police officer talking to a perp (also maskless) driving home from my horrible Cinco De Mayo takeout non experience and was like "What the crap, man?"

Ontario is starting to slowly open up with active cases dropping for almost three weeks now. Hardware stores and garden centres are open and provincial parks will soon be reopening for day use only (no camping).

Ontario is under 300 new cases for the first time since the end of March (and we are testing way more than we were then).

yeah but looking at all these photos of people in vancouver immediately gathering in crowds the minute social distancing rules were relaxed, i feel like there will be a second wave soon enough.

This weekend is going to be the real test of where Ontario is at. There's some conflicting messaging going on right now with parks being open but Ford still telling people to stay at home and not go to the cottage this long weekend.

Can't re-open shit when people still don't want to go out. The country has decided what they want. Opening at 15-20% capacity is a death sentence.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2020/05/11/massachusetts-ice-cream-shop-cape-cod-closed-amid-harassment/3107162001/

And it starts... this thing is gonna be a fucking fiasco.

The TV station reported that Lawrence had asked customers to place orders an hour before pickup, but on the first day back, his limited staff faced harsh comments and vulgarity from angry customers who demanded ice cream.

"One of my best workers quit yesterday at the end of her shift, she stuck it through her shift," Lawrence told Boston 25 News. "But the words she was called and the language, you wouldn’t even say in a men’s locker room. And to say it to a 17-year-old kid, they should be ashamed of themselves."

The ice cream shop owner recounted the scene of chaos as more customers poured in and demanded ice cream. One customer, he said, got out of her car to yell at him, he told the Globe.

"Hold on, hold on: It’s ice cream," he told the newspaper. "Ma’am, you do not have to be here; I don’t have to be here; these kids don’t have to be here."

I saw someone post that yesterday. You know we're in trouble when people are getting red faced angry at ice cream parlors.

Most angry you should be at an ice cream parlor is mildly upset over them running out of rainbow sprinkles.

It's even dumber because small shops in northern Essex county have been open for outdoor pickup since the beginning of the month.

Unfortunately the damage has already been done and the economy is not going to recover anytime soon. Shit is going to get REAL ugly around the world, far worse than what we're seeing from Virus related illnesses and deaths. I'm far more concerned about THAT than this virus, but you can call me crazy if you want.

Nah, I tried to say that all along. Look at the unemployment rate. That isn’t going to recover for years. When eviction and foreclosure moratoriums expire the economy is absolutely fucked. Nobody will be able to pay back rent or catch up on their mortgage. It cannot be the case where millions of people are indebted to their landlords. That shit will not work. We have a recipe brewing for mass civil unrest. A lot of these jobs are never coming back.

It’s interesting that people claim this is an overreaction while the foundation for the world burning down in front of all of us is happening right in front of our eyes. People are so singularly focused on the virus that they don’t see any of this.

Yeah, but I have a feeling that people will eventually stop giving a shit and start going back to restaurants. It's the same as the stay-at-home orders. Everyone was gung-ho about that when it first started but were done with it by the time a couple weeks had passed and the hospitals (sans NYC) weren't overwhelmed. People will eventually forget their reservations and start going back to what they did before.

Things will be bad in this country. Really bad.

But, things are already really bad elsewhere, and we are months away from potentially millions of deaths not tied to the virus itself but to the economic hardship it's brought.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/economic-tsunami-could-soon-thrust-110003724.html

"The U.N. predicts the coronavirus could push an additional 130 million people to the brink of starvation by the end of 2020. World Vision, an international Christian aid organization, warns that 30 million children are at risk of dying."

Also, no one in the US is going to have the appetite to give to these countries when people here are suffering. So, millions up million upon millions are going to starve to death.

That’s true, but can these restaurants stay open with a lot less sales? At the end of the day at least half the people in this country are still going to stay home.

That being said, Ford is rightfully getting flack for having his daughters over on Mother's Day after telling Ontarians not to do that.
