The snowbirds are absolutely military propaganda. They're a way of showing off the air force in a non-threatening manner. It's a standard tactic all over the world.

That said someone just died and another person lost their home, while the people involved in the actual snowbirds themselves are well-intentioned (generally).

IMO this is the reason why governments should stop wasting money on utterly pointless exercises. It has cost them a lot of money and now someone's life. I also would have laughed if I didn't know the guy died.
