It's not looking good and I'm feeling terrible for girls and women and everyone who looks different, lives different, just wants to live their lives but don't have the cold comfort of privilege.

Yup. I'm a 45 year old white guy and I feel sick over this. Can't imagine what they are going through now.

This is awful and sickening

With Sherrod Brown losing in Ohio it looks like you will have Trump with both a Republican House and Senate. Worst case scenario is unfolding.

With Republicans now in control of everything I'm curious what this means. Without McCain is Obamacare finally gonna be toasted? The margins are so slim that I would doubt it.

Tariffs are more likely. Tax cuts for the rich more likely. Elimination of social welfare programs.

If there's any glimmer of hope it's that in general 2nd term presidents start losing power the second they're in office. And by the mid-terms are many times more figureheads.

And we're now gonna find out what the Republican party is after Trump. The only thing that gives me hesitation is the huge rise in Latino and Black male voters. The Democrats gotta figure out how to get men back.

Well at least with Trump now being the same age as Biden when was elected, he'll almost certainly start to lose it (already started tbh) and the memes will be great.

So awful that we have to endure 12 years of this bullshit.

Get it together, dems.

Two more thoughts:

1. I guess rising grocery and gas prices were a huge factor even though neither were Biden's fault. The average voter just saw their bank accounts and realize these things didn't happen under Trump so he must be the better candidate.

2. Biden should have announced he wasn't running for reelection after the 2022 midterms and given the dems actual time to get a suitable replacement (even if it wound up being Kamala anyway). She ran a great campaign and it's amazing she got as far as she did but I think a sizable part of the population didn't like how she was propped up 4 months ago.

Definitely agreed. I think her going on public TV and saying she agreed with what Biden did really didn't help either especially when voters were emphasizing things like the Economy as their biggest important factor & her talking about it towards the end of the run was too little, too late.

Biden also didn't help matters calling Trump supporters "garbage" (way to mobilize them to come out and vote on Election day when they already hate your guts) and being the face behind the inflation/rising prices of everything.

This sucks. I'm not surprised Trump won and think a lot of the swing states will end up being super close (including recounts from Kamala's side e.g. Pennsylvania) but I'm more worried about how future elections look including if there are literally elections going forward.

JD Vance is almost certainly a lock to run in 2028 and lead the Republican party into the future and with him being in his 40s and Trump-lite, its gonna take a lot to take him down.

I'd like to say "this is s wake up calls to Dems" but similar statements were made in 2016 so yeah, they'll never learn.

Dumbest. Fucking. Country. Congrats to Kotz I guess for correctly believing in the utter stupidity of the American electorate.

I hope nobody expects any big plans/ideas from future Dem Presidents, because the Supreme Court is going to be lost for a generation if not more.

I have never been less happy to be right about something. Every time I think about it there's another "OH GOD THAT TOO" moment.

As Elon said, Dems have been in charge for 12 of 16 years, so at some point they have to own the issues. GOP of course fucks shit up and makes sure D's agenda is halted, but at the end of the day they were on top of the totem pole of inflation, and Trump sold a heavy message of crime and immigration. Carnies can overcome nuanced facts.

I'm sure there will be disagreement but I don't think this is on the Harris campaign. It was good, busy, energetic. Great speeches. Traveled everywhere, urban and rural, repeatedly. Was clear on policy. Won the debate.

This is what America has chosen to be. And, for me, it is monumentally worrying and depressing. I can't just easily move on through the raindrops on this.

The only bad part of the Harris campaign was that Harris was tied to Biden, who isn't particularly popular.

I think the source of that unpopularity was deeply unfair, illogical, and has now led to real and lasting damage. I guess that's another thing some might disagree on. But I also thought Harris did as good a job as possible distancing herself from that manufactured unpopularity. Biden's campaigning was limited, there were few if any joint rallies. She tried to distance herself from policies and adjust and the media just would not report on that at all.

Why are people acting like this was a Reagan-like squash? Kamala has almost as many votes as Trump in 2020.
