Sentinel is so fucking worth it. I'm on Disc 3 and Fang is just uber-fucking-bad-ass at being the SEN in my group. Her with mediguard rocks because while she provokes everyone and gets their attention..I can have Lightning use "Blindside" to gain an attack bonus since they aren't focused on her while I have Hope blast things with magic or heal Fang.

..oh, and Pulse. The fucking cinematics for it are breathtaking.

Use those pre-battle status effects (forget what they're called) and keep alternating between RAV/RAV and MED/MED

If I remember correctly, he yields to chain bonuses and protecting teammates... I barely did it. I hit x with about 5 seconds left on my doom clock.

I'm out of town from yesterday to Wednesday so I'm gonna fall behind...quite a few of us were on the same pace.

I just started last night. I'm about 2 hours in. So far, I approve. The great graphics are a nice touchan and the partner AI seems responsive enough for now.

I'm on chapter 4. Love the graphics and gameplay system but I'm not too drawn into the story yet. Hope it gets better.

I'm out of town for a few days and the thread dies without me posting in it every few hours... haha.

Love the "twist" (not really) about
Fang/Vanille being from Pulse.

35 hours in.

I'm hoping that there's some sort of way to earn money later. Because selling biological crapp doesn't seem to be a good use of my time. My goodness, once you run out of phoenix downs, getting 1000 gil to buy another one seems like a tall order indeed. What I'm missing in this game is a rikku-like THIEF class, so I could speed up the item-getting. Because fighting a King Behemoth is hard. And getting a drop worth 80 gil is annoying. Another bestial claw? Do those things even give 20 xp?

So I get that the biological components increase the bonus and the mechanical components are worth way more exp. I'm assuming Cei'th drops are biological, but not sure yet. My point is that they've been giiving me transformative componenst for chapters and I'm NOWHERE near leveling any weapons up yet. It doesn't help that I switched Fang's spear from her standard one to the Gae Blog which I imagined would give great counter attacks. It doesn't. She rarely does counter, the damage is tiny, and Sentinals, while powerful, really hurt you in the star count.

Right now I'm maining hope with a SYN/RAV/SNT group, buffing whichever buffs I think will give me the best attack, and then switchign to relentless. This works fairly well. But not always. It is extremely annoying to have to rotate characters for specific fights because so and so doens't have debrave or whatnot. It is getting better at laster "levels" though. Still, having to custom build Paradigms for certain fights is troublesome because you only have six and can't change them on the fly. This especially applies to Eidalon fights where if you've been commandoing with a char and she needs to tank / debuff to earn Gestalt...better retry. And then spend a while changing shit. For one fight.

Does anyone know if the weapon system gets better later, if I just push through a point and suddenly I can fight soldiers again? Incentive chips, 2500 gil each, I miss them so. I was so happy to find a place with Pulse enemies. Fighting biologicals is SO pointless.

No weapons up? I upgraded Lightning to Helter Skelter around 16 hours in... Also have 4 weapons starred at 21 hours... Just waiting for transformative items. 36 biological gets 3x... Then the key is to add massive quantities of the mechanical at once to not lose the 3x. I've jumped 20 levels at once.

Lightning and Vanille know raise (life) now so no need for Phoenix downs.

I knew Raise as soon as it became available.

And Eric, a word of advice, always hit R1 and find out the weakness of the enemy. Finding out its weakness makes things go down ASAP.

Personally I'll run a COM/RAV/RAV command, then when I break someone I'll quickly switch over to a COM/RAV/COM command for massive damage, since the COMS I run can launch enemies and keep them from attacking me. Launch works really well against any boss, so when you break'em, let'em have it. I kept one boss totally in the air for an entire fight.

My other commands I use are SYN/MED/SNT when I need some healing, since if I'm healing, I might as well debuff and buff my party when it happens. I know everyone raves over SEN, but I just can't get it to work out for me, but I'll usually include at least one SEN command, usually flipping between SEN/COM/RAV or SEN/COM/MED or SEN/RAV/MED depending on how tough the enemies are. Finally I'll include a command of COM/RAV/MED to have a quick spot heal.

Yes, I do realize that I still have a single command spot left. Personally speaking though that's all you really need to use for the commands. Works really well, I rack up the points, and I generally succeed in nearly all cases with this set up.

You must be grinding a LOT more than me.

I kind of didn't think things through and breezed through the ark. All I know is that I have ~800 gil, none of my weapons are above lvl 22, never transformed any of them, and I'm running around the mines and mountains. if thats a fair approximation of where I am. Perhaps that is why things seem to take a while to go down................

Sigh.

I'm on Chapter 10 (30 hours in) and i've accumulated 70,000g. I think that should tide me over till I reach Gran Pulse. Basically grinded for those Incentive Chips for awhile.

Actually Eric, if anything I've speed ran the game. I'm at Chapter 8 I believe (this time I'm really sure its 8), and I've got no weapon higher than 13. I have not leveled up anything except the basic weapons either. That means none of the better weapons, nor any of the accessories.

I have grinded, but only in killing everything that needs to be killed. Until I got to the Palamecia, then I just decided to screw it, and realized I can't do that. My last save is a whole chapter, so I might need to probably grind out for awhile. Though I haven't played the game in a few days, kinda burnt myself out.

If you just beat Cid, you're like an hour or two away from Pulse, IIRC. You'll have to work your way back out and towards the Pope like guy. Fight him...and I think after that there's some more battles...Fang's Eidolon battle and then you wind up on Austrail...I mean, Gran Pulse..

LOL. Pulse is like a whole different game. I barely have any idea where to go!

I already got slaughtered by a King Behemoth on the main plain within 30 seconds so now I'm avoiding them.

Question: in the North American version, can I change the language to Japanese with English subtitles?

Nope, dub only, even in the PS3 version.

Lost Odyssey had 5 language tracks, making it even more of a confusing move.

I hate shit like that. What do you really lose (aside from some space on disc) by just leaving the original language track on there with some subtitles? Koei does this shit all the time with their games and it pisses me off because their English VO actors are some of the worst you could get in a videogame.

I don't think that it's so much the voice actors. I'm skimming through some of the IMDb pages for the Dynasty Warriors games, for instance, and there's a lot of really solid/good voice actors. The voice *direction* may be awful, though, and likely done in one take.

It really seems like a brainless move removing the language tracks, considering there's go to be plenty of space. I guess video game people don't grasp the idea that people might want the option.

And a year from now it will be rereleased, in Japan only, with the complete English voices.

Dude if you thought the King Behemoth killed you quick, try walking into one of those adorable Adamantoise guys...

The guys who're like... five stories tall?

When I made it to Spore... Pulse (that's it) I ran into those. Ugh.
I wish you could switch the paradigms during the battles instead after. Sometimes I'll think of better combination during the battle and then forget about it after wards.

Starting off in a Sentinel paradigm (like Delta Attack or Solidarity) and switching to something like Relentless Assault then back is the only way to get through some fights in less than like 20 minutes.

Or do you mean being able to create new paradigms on the fly during a battle?

Well, finally leveled up enough to beat King Behemoths in pairs of 2. I have some talents maxed out on Crystarium level 8 for reference (Lightning has all Commando skills and most medic, Vanille has all ravager, most Saboteur etc.). I'm loving how the side quests sometimes provide items worth boat loads of gil, which has helped me to upgrade the fuck out of my arsenal.

Things got better after I switched Vanille from Binding/Hunting Rod over to Pearlwing Staff for the magic spec and now she's probably my best person. I always use Lightning (and play as her) and Vanille and have been rotating the third spot. I've been rolling with Hope in there for a magic team for the last 3-4 hours and I kinda like it.

Star the problem with video game voice acting is that a lot of times they are brought in after the process, not while its going on with localization or any tweaking that needs to be done, but after its all said and done. So many voice actors just get a generalization of the character, and don't get to understand the character until they actually voice it.

Which usually explains why a lot of characters get better as the story goes along. Its really, really stupid.

Interesting lineup, using your two lowest HP characters. I still use Light/Fang/Hope, but then again I'm still working on maxxing out my level 4 skills, so I'm nowhere near as powerful as you are.

I think we may be nearly equal... Lightning is level 4 commando which corresponds to level 8 crystarium.
