the PS3 version is the superior one. The only thing the PS4 has on it is graphics. The AI is worse, foul calls are broken, and career mode is scripted as hell on the new one.

Origin is starting a "Game Time" program in the vein of Steam's free weekends. Though they're giving you 48 hours from the time you first launch the game, rather than a global expiry time.

First game is Titanfall for free, and should be available sometime today.

https://www.origin.com/en-ca/news/play-titanfall-free-game-time

They're almost getting me to cave on trying Origin. Free Battlefield 3 almost did it (though I still have a key for it from the Humble Bundle). I'd probably give this a shot, if it weren't a 49GB download that'd chew up my bandwidth for a whole day, and use one-sixth of my (relatively generous for Canada) monthly traffic cap.

Probably the strangest thing in there is BioShock being offered DRM-free, almost 7 years after being one of the most prominent initial games to use SecuROM with limited online activations.

Both lower tiers are pretty good. Can probably get a better deal than an extra $14-15 for BioShock Infinite and XCOM: EU. They'll probably have more complete editions with DLC offered... if I'm guessing, I'd say later this year.

I'll probably pick up Papo & Yo from that list. Always wanted to try that, but never got around to it.

I had Dyad when it was part of PS+ a few months back. It was pretty to look at but I guess I didn't "get it".

Every so often, there's news that a few Rock Band DLC tracks won't be re-licenced, and will be taken down from stores. By the end of August, a couple of Fleetwood Mac singles, and all Spinal Tap songs are due to come down.

http://forums.harmonixmusic.com/discussion/comment/5099505/#Comment_5099505

These songs are all pre-Rock Band 3 tracks, which Harmonix permanently(-ish) discounted to $1 apiece a while back. However, the two Spinal Tap packs are selling for $1 each. I just bought 15 songs for 2 bucks.

http://marketplace.xbox.com/Product/Spinal-Taps-TAP-TEN/00000000-0000-400c-80cf-02de45410829

http://marketplace.xbox.com/Product/Spinal-Tap-Pack-01/00000000-0000-400c-80cf-027a45410829

On a side note, it's annoying to see that Microsoft is still only accepting credit card payments on Xbox.com, and not recognizing pre-paid funds at all. Had to go turn on my 360 to actually buy the things. It's been like this since they transitioned to real currency, which is a year ago now.

GMG has been running a Top 50 Games event the past week or so, and they're doing an encore with all of the games back on sale, until Monday at noon EDT. Use the coupon code below for an extra 20% off.

One of the better deals is Dishonored GOTY for $6 after coupon; Steam usually has it for a little over $10 on sale.

Gunpoint is $2.49 on the Humble Store (includes DRM-free, plus Steam), which may have something to do with the game entering beta on Mac and Linux:

Humble Flash Bundle just started; you can currently get The Swapper and Fez (among others) for under $3.
https://www.humblebundle.com/flash

Also a Weekly Bundle with a bunch of stuff I vaguely recognize, and Jazzpunk in a higher tier.

This is a weird one. If you bought a 2K digital PC game from Amazon.com in 2012-13, you may have received a promo e-mail for $5 off a pre-order of NBA 2K14 in September 2013. I seem to have been eligible for it because I bought the Desert to Sea Bundle (Spec Ops: The Line, BioShock, BioShock 2) at the end of 2012.

That $5 credit is still valid, and NBA 2K14 is currently on sale for $6--bringing it down to $1. If you try to purchase it, it should automatically apply the credit if eligible on your account.

This is the e-mail I got:

Thank you for your purchase of a 2K game from Amazon.com. Your purchase entitles you to a $5 promotional credit towards the pre-order of NBA 2K14. To redeem your credit visit: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D93B5VI click "Pre-order PC Download" and your credit will be automatically applied. Credit must be used by 9/24/2014.

Xbox is running a promotion this coming week (Sep 7-13): Buy an Xbox One console, get one disc-based game free. Potentially includes bundles that already include a game.

http://news.xbox.com/2014/09/xbox-september-promotion

Canadian retailers seem to be doing similar deals for this week's flyer period (typically starting today). Future Shop and Best Buy have an Xbone Forza 5 bundle (w/ Kinect), plus Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, plus another game, for $500 total. Real Canadian Superstore has a coupon in their flyer to get a $50+ game free w/ console. Walmart has Destiny or NHL 15 free (err, +96 cents) w/ console in their flyer.

Target Canada has:
Free game w/ Xbox One console
25% off XBL Gold & PS+ membership cards
10% off video game currency cards
A free $15 Target gift card when you buy NHL 15 and a 4-pack of Kraft Dinner

Best Buy is also running a promo where you get their $120 Gamers Club membership with console purchase.

So I am debating getting the Xbox Madden bundle this weekend due to $400 getting console, Madden, second game, membership to get 20% future games. That's basically $240 worth of stuff with console.

So I just did Best Buy's Xbox One deal.

I found out the 10% coupon you can get from the Post Office in the Movers Packet worked.

So I got the Madden bundle, Battlefield 4 (the game selection was really weak) and the $120 Gamers Club membership for $359, $389 after tax.

The Humble Store is doing a 2-week end-of-summer sale with daily and flash deals, and free games on Mondays. You can get Warlock: Master of the Arcane free for now. Psychonauts is $0.99 until 1AM EDT. There's other stuff on sale for varying amounts of time: The Wolf Among Us, Kerbal Space Program, Arkham Asylum, etc.

Looks like there's a bunch of stuff not highlighted at the top of the main page too. If you scroll down to the big list, then sort by "Discount", there's stuff like Steamworld Dig for $2.50, Monaco for $1.50, Prison Architect for $10, and so on.

Some of Humble's features sales were a little underwhelming when the page first went up. Now it looks like some of them have improved--The Swapper for $3, Euro Truck Simulator 2 for $5.
