Yes. They had shows in the Superdome and AstroDome during Master P’s short run there.

Master P told Eric Bischoff that he would be able to sell out the Superdome for the Nitro there. Maybe he could have if they had him wrestle Goldberg or Kevin Nash but he definitely couldn’t do it awkwardly performing a song on the ugly ass entrance ramp or celebrating Silkk The Shocker’s birthday in the ring.

Bischoff and Nash honestly had a germ of a good idea bringing in the No Limit Soldiers. People forget how huge they were in 1999…especially in the South, @Epic Springs , you elitist Yankee!

Trying to draw in a hipper, more diverse audience is a good idea IN THEORY but the way WCW presented it did nothing to attract any NLS fans and just aggravated their core fanbase.
You would think Atlanta would be fine to base a rap angle around, but they gave Master P a bunch of big black no names (Swoll and 4x4), and a miscast, hadn't won a notable match since 1992 Brad Armstrong.
Then the Rednecks gets the washed work rate heroes in Hennig and Windham. With Curly Bill there to make the Blazing Saddles jokes work.

Rey Mysterio and Konnan were good choices for Master P’s champions in combat but after that, wooof. Could you have put the reunited Harlem Heat with them? They feuded with the Rednecks too.

You run the risk of the BUTTs and King Kamalas of 1999 saying “They’re sticking all of the minorities in one group!” after a certain point but it wouldn’t be a new thing.

...but were they? This was when a 13 y/o Laz still kinda paid attention to music that wasn't just growls and blast beats, and I don't remember seeing Master P really anywhere but on Nitro and Thunder.

He was coming off of a triple platinum and a quadruple platinum album that were both Billboard #1s, when he appeared in WCW. Granted those numbers were less outrageously huge back then but I think it could be argued , commercially speaking, that he was the biggest name in hip hop at that point.

Hell, Silkk the Shocker had a #1 album in 1999. Snoop Dogg was signed to No Limit Records back then. Why didn’t he show up in WCW!?

It didn’t leave much of a cultural imprint but it was huge at the time.

Yeah, Master P was huge in the late 90s rap scene. He eventually became more famous for his son and business investments but he and No Limit were on top of the rap game for a few years.

Didn't P take ownership of House of Glory a few years ago or was that just kayfabe?

WCW not being the company to have presidential impersonators is kinda wild, honestly.

One downside to Kevin Sullivan’s horrible last run booking WCW ending (before Bischoff and Russo joined forces to make things even worse) is we missed out on a sweet Tank Abbott-Meng-Fit Finlay triple threat.

I smell potatoes, Brod!

Fun pod from Zellner and company. Biggest thing I learned was JJ Dillon told Vince in late Jan 89 that he could deliver Luger and Windham to the WWF. Luger talked to the WWF and things got as far as Luger being given a start date in early March.
Finally listening to this. Young Rob Naylor being pissed that the Mighty Wilbur is gone and wishing that WCW brought in someone like The Warlord instead of Ricky Steamboat is a first rate hilariously, contrarian fan takes.

Steamboat in ‘89 was kind of a bomb at the box office. Maybe they should have brought in Warlord!

Warlord would've been a good opponent for Sting in 1990. He's not an A+ guy but it would've been better than the Black Scorpion thing with Horsemen, Luger, Steiners, Doom, Gigante, one of the best tag team rosters ever, etc underneath.

Crazy how both Blade Runners' first title runs were so poorly booked, at the same time.

Listening to Double J’s podcast on GAB 2000 and learned about a shitty WCW World title change that goes unmentioned. Apparently, Flair was in his street clothes when he won his last WCW World Championship because he had no idea he was working that night and assumed he wouldn’t be plugged into a match because he was having shoulder surgery after the PPV.

And also Russo used to break kayfabe and fill in the Nitro commentary team for what was going to happen so they were genuinely confused if Flair actually won the belt.
