over there
wrestlers are pretty much whores for anything over 20 dollars.
That's pretty much on point. As positive as an experience meeting Jake Roberts was, he would talk for free, but only sign for $25. Even though I had two items in hand, it was $25 per item and said, "I don't make the rules" but the wad of cash he pulled out of his pocket after I paid him told a different story. BUT I don't know his life, not my business to ask questions. I was just happy to talk to him and get a photo.

(granted Edge and Jericho signed like 3 things a piece for me at no upcharge though their situations were different)

I think it depends on the talent and the kind of carny they are. And probably how the payouts are structured. I’ll never forget being at Comic Con and basically having Virgil and Honky Tonk Man fight on who could escort me to the ATM, when I wasn’t paying for either of them.

When I went to a TNA Fanfest, i paid the extra for the Hulk & Brooke Hogan Meet and Greet. It was a very strict one per person and told Hogan I was having a hard time deciding between my card of him from the Hulkamania era or my Wrestling Boot Band CD. He was amused enough with the CD that he signed both and gave me a signed 8x10 they were giving to people who had nothing. Definitely saw some handlers giving him dirty looks. I didn’t know what to expect from Hogan but everything I saw that day he was very gracious and humble towards everyone he interacted with.

I met Hogan during his brief "Hogan and Friends Tour". They had to cancel the first date for whatever reason, so as a make good, everyone with tickets got a free meet and greet when they made the date. Hogan was about to meet me when he had to go take a shit. I was very worried they would force the line to keep going anyway but we waited him out as "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan and I shot the shit. (Duggan was great both times I met him)

Jake was at a bar around here. IIRC it was 15 bucks to get in the door, then a sign said "25 dollars to meet Jake" (May have been 15.) My buddy and I paid it and when we walked in the room he charged us each another 10 or 15 for a pic. We paid it....

JJ Dillon refused to take my money when I met him. After an autograph and a picture, I bought a copy of his book.

Bruce and Keith Hart also refused money for autographs. They were happy to flip through my Survivor Series 1993 program and chat for several minutes. In my experience, Bruce is nothing like his internet reputation.

Booker T was also surprisingly approachable despite being the biggest name at the event.

Where were the Harts brought in for a convention?

The Thesz/Tragos HOF inducted Owen in 2018. Bruce, Keith, Diana, and Bulldog Jr were there for that. I'm glad I disregarded the internety stuff and chatted with them.

Never met him (would love to), but Booker has always seemed like he can be moody. Even in talking head stuff, you can't tell when you are gonna get the chill and calm Booker that's hilarious, or the guy that seems confrontational and grumpy at times.

Maybe it helped that Queen Sharmell was with him. And maybe folks act different at a HOF type thing than at a strictly-money convention.

Another nice guy: Jerry Brisco.

If I go to the HOF this year, I'll report back on these people: Ken Shamrock, Sgt Slaughter, Mark Henry, General Adnan, Don Kernodle, Flyin Brian Jr, and Trish Stratus.

It’s funny because one of the guys that I didn’t quite enjoy meeting (in a meet and greet setting) was Chavo Guerrero, who didn’t seem like he wanted to be there. I always hear interviews where he sounds cool and have heard good things but I guess I caught him on a bad day. Chavo and Christy Hemme stuck out as less than friendly which was different than Bobby Roode, who you could just tell was quiet and Kurt Angle who was so pilled out at the time I don’t think he knew where he was.

I met Christy at a Horror Movie Convention (yeah I know) around 2007 and she didn't look like she wanted to be there. But I had the same feeling so I can't blame her there.

Be glad Kurt didn't think he was filming that movie where he was the killer clown.

I didn’t have high hopes for the mystery man, so I’ll give WCW credit and say that I absolutely did not expect Animal to be it. Because it was a lame as shit surprise. But a surprise nonetheless, and those were rare in WCW at the time. However, I did predict that Animal would be Rick Steiner’s mystery partner at Slammiversary 2007, I never posted about it on any board but I did think it, you’ll have to take my word for it.

Animal in WCW was so random. I think I was braced for anything nonsensical at that point. The pairing in TNA 2007 made sense somewhat in who these guys were and somewhat from TNA 2007’s “Hey WCW, hold my beer” moments

Yeah, I don't think anyone expected anyone good for a WCW mystery man reveal in January 2001 but even considering all of that, Road Warrior Animal was a bad choice.

There were a few decisions in the last 3 or 4 months of WCW that seemed to implicitly acknowledge that they may be nearing the end so they wanted to give a few nods to the longtime hardcore fans. Animal, Glacier callback, Dustin Rhodes basically returning as an aged version of The Natural gimmick, Dusty Rhodes & Ric Flair having one last main event feud.

Animal doesn't look that bad in that gif. Isolated seconds make him look alright.

Animal as the mystery man was hilarious. I don't know who I was expecting, but it was not Animal. I think I had my money on Corino at the time.

I remember I would go about my business on Sundays back then and then around the time I expected the PPV to have gone off the air, I’d log on a wrestling news site and read the results. I think when I saw Animal was the reveal I read it three or four times to make sure I was reading it right.

I don't think I put in too much stock in the Sin mystery man at the time but I certainly wasn't expecting Animal. When I read the results before school the next morning, all I thought was "where's Hawk?"

Was this before or after you helped develop bullet-time?
I was thinking about who would make an adequate replacement for Scott when they had been building Team 3D vs Steiners as a dream match between all-time great teams. And then I thought “they should get Animal in that case since he’s from the most legendary tag team of all time.” I was pretty surprised that they actually did it but he was the best option under the circumstances.

It would only pop like 6 fans, but Bobby Eaton had 12 matches to Animal's 2 matches in 2007 and I would've marked.

At the very least, I’m sure we are all glad Marty Jannetty didn’t stumble down to ringside to be Rick Steiner’s mystery partner at Slammiversary 2007.

Animal definitely made the most sense to team with Rick after Scott almost died in Puerto Rico. He was really the only other legendary tag wrestler still somewhat active at the time who wasn't signed with WWE. I don't think getting Robert Gibson or Ricky Morton would have had the same effect.

I was going to make a speak for yourself joke but before Marty blew it himself in WWE 2005, his few appearances were infinitely more entertaining and watchable than LOD 2005 and THE ROAD WARRIOR run.

Barry Darsow was only 48 in 2007. We should have gotten Demolition Smash coming out on a TNA PPV and threatening to kick Bully Ray and D’Von’s stinkin teeth in.
WWF magazine teased several times Demolition were returning. I honestly do not recall if that was 95/96. Likely pre-prison heel Crush.

They had that "Barred from the Back" "insider scoopz" column tease it and then a month or 2 later had Demolition featured in the "From Rookies to Legends" monthly column.

Crush/Darsow coming in mid-1996 for brawls with the Godwins and Grimms... Then comes the Blackjacks in 1997. Oh man HOSS fight.

Demolition vs Pierroth/Cybernetico~! RAW!

Ok I'll stop.
