I legit don't care what Goldberg has to say about anything. If he and Jericho are on good terms then less so. It's just gonna come down to the latest in "Bret hates Goldberg."

I mean more than 100 is hundreds, honestly. I assume this also isn't taking into account house shows. I guess my point is he never got better so haha fuck Goldberg.

What caused Bret to backtrack and start trashing Bill? Bret said in his book that Goldberg was a good man who was inexperienced and held no animosity towards what he did.

I think it's the 2010s/2020s comeback. Bret feels pissed that a guy that inexperienced was allowed to take a decade off then comeback for big money matches and continue engaging in the same behavior. It doesn't seem like Goldberg is genuinely contrite for injuring so many GD people nor has he tried to learn to work safer. He nearly killed THE UNDERTAKER (only most respected dude in the history of WWE locker room) four years ago!

Bret has also literally lost everything in the business. Family is dead, his body cannot handle even the slightest bumps, a large part of his legacy to a lot of people is getting screwed. He hears all the time how people miss him, and that has to kill him. Meanwhile the guy who ended his career, and who has had everything handed to him his whole career, continues to show up and be treated like a legend. In WWE terms, treated as being on the same level, really.

I can't believe people were still making fun of Bret a few months back when he did his interview where he talked about how he should've been able to get the multimillion dollar paychecks that HBK and Goldberg get. Goldberg literally took away his livelihood. Bret worked in a way that if he had been able to stay healthy (and not run into big gorillas like Goldberg), he probably could be working occasionally in his mid 60s.

And I'm not so sure Bret's stroke in '02 wasn't a direct result of Goldberg's kick. You're at much higher risk for stroke for years after having a TBI.

Yeah, sure, it would be very nice if he was able to forgive and forget. However, I think if almost any of us were in his star covered boots, we'd justifiably be mad as hell at Bill Goldberg.

WCW did want to bring in Sabu in '00 but Heyman filed a lawsuit that prevented that from happening IIRC.

'00 WCW could have been even more wackier with Sabu in it. He probably would have done some GD awful BS with Vampiro too.

2000 WCW with Sabu is a mess. As much as I would love to see Meng throw him around, I don't think there's anything worth watching with him in those conditions. Maybe if he's, like, hanging with David Flair and Crowbar as a straight man?

Network-friendly matches with Hak would be so bad. I could see him and Funk pushing it as far as they could and getting in trouble, though. In a good way.

Sabu/Vampiro sounds better in my head than it should. I'm not a Vampiro fan but given the choice between graveyard shit with a fairly unmotivated Sting or a series with the Demon, I'd rather watch Sabu kill himself for a guy with cool facepaint.

It really drives how bad WCW was in 2000 where we can look at Sabu's 2000 and say "Eh. It could've been worse." Like XPW and early IWA Mid-South probably weren't better work places than late era WCW but they were probably less stressful ( once you get passed the possibility of getting stabbed or mutilated aside...)

Going back to the earlier low point in WCW history. John Arezzi’s show this week is recapping the 9-19-1992 episode of his radio show that has Wade Keller and Meltzer on talking about Bill Watts pulverizing morale in the WCW locker room.

The hosts in 2022 brought up a conspiracy theory that I hadn’t heard that Bill Watts was financially incentivized by Turner to slash WCW’s budget (IE tank). I can definitely buy Turner execs wanting to tank WCW but I also think Bill Watts was just really crappy at running a wrestling promotion in 1992.

Kamala talks about recent episodes of John Arezzi's podcast Part 2!
Armstrong Alley uncovered yet another failed attempt at trying to regain the Mid South audience. This time from 1992. Glancing at this, it has Terry Funk doing PBP (!)
This week's John Arezzi (which covers the 9-26-1992 episode of his radio show) sort of addresses this! Terry Funk is the guest and talks about how he wants to transition into becoming a full time commentator and is hoping to sign with WCW.
Imagining Terry Funk calling '93 WCW is a trip. I can totally imagine him waxing poetic about The White Castle of Fear.

I'm mildly surprised that Bill Watts didn't bite as Uncle Terry seems way more up his speed for color commentator than Jesse Ventura. Did Jesse Ventura talk about working for Watts in his shoot interview, @BruiserBrody ? I feel like they'd either surprisingly get along or hate each other's guts.

I just read someone pointing out that John Tenta looks like an enormous Ricky Jay and now I won't be able to get that out of my head for at least a week.

Maybe instead of going to his IRL name, Tenta should've became the Card Shark and teamed with The Gambler.
