He stuck around with Rick for a little bit but yeah he was gone pretty quickly after that.

I seem to remember him having some involvement with the racing stuff? Can someone confirm this?

When did he find god? During WCW or after?

Found it last night. Re-watched KweeWee/Jett from Greed for the first time in 20 years. It's even better than I remember.

Amazing what a hot opener can do for a card.

Dumping so many ppvs out of the gate must mean the jump to Netflix will halve the library. I love that they're doing this but there's kind of something ominous about the future for me.

If I'm Monsoon Classic, I'm more nervous than ever.

So the complaint is you want to pay for it?

(I get it, they will take years to dump everything)

The complaint is that is that it's free content and I don't trust WWE to not see that as extremely disposable. And honestly I'd pay what I am now to pull up the shows I want and not be drip fed things out of sequence based on their own preferences.

Uncensored '95 was just uploaded to YouTube so no better way to spend a lazy Sunday then watching a bottom 5 WCW PPV.

I'm surprised another promotion never did a King of the Road-esque match. Even ironically.

Rhodes and Smash tried and they both deserved better.

I think that also has the only fun Nasty Boys vs Harlem Heat match, because of all the cartoon mayhem.

Sting vs Big Bubber is a solid match too, but that Meng vs Duggan karate match gives me nightmares.

They had been working together for over a year at this point but Tony already seemed fed up with Bobby on commentary here. Don't remember that happening till like 97/98 ish.

Arn/Badd and Meng/Duggan are disasters but Sting/Bubba and Nasties/Heat are solid.

Savage was firmly entrenched in "sell for 95% of the match and then make a comeback" here. A trend he started in his last few years in the WWF.

Christopher Cruise

I see Lex Luger is continuing on his never-ending redemption tour. He's a nice, approachable guy now, always ready to meet the fans and talk about his prime. Nice big smile. Yeah yeah yeah, people can change, turn the page, turn over a new leaf, find Gawd. Hard to tell if any conversion is real, but he's been at it for awhile so I guess we should take him at his word. And he's in very tough physical shape so we should have some sympathy for him. But let's not forget this is a guy who never liked pro wrestling, didn't like other pro wrestlers, didn't like the fans and was a condescending asshole. One time when I was hosting WCW Worldwide a ring announcer had gotten fired and Jim Herd asked if I would go on the road for a bit; I readily agreed and ended up having a lot of fun. The fans in the small towns popped when I walked out to the ring because they had been watching me on TV and had no idea I was going to be there; it was quite an ego boost. So, I began to announce the talent as they entered the ring like they do at TV tapings -- but I didn't know that at live events you waited until they were in the ring and then introduced them. In comes Luger with a sour look on his face. He brushes past me in the ring and tells me I'm doing it the wrong way, what a stupid fuck I am and how the fuck did I get the job. You're supposed to wait until we get into the ring to announce us you idiot. (He did it quickly and no one outside the ring could hear him.) That's just one example of the complete asshole he was to many of the behind-the-scenes people in WCW and to no-power announcers like me. And as we know he was a steroid abuser and cheater, and an absent father. (I also heard that for about ten years all he ate was grilled chicken and rice.) So, let's applaud this guy for making a change, but let's not forget that he was one big fucking bag of dicks for the longest time.

--
This is my kind of bitterness. I've got a revenge list dating to at least 5th grade.

I'm an asshole though. I was feuding with a girl in Kindergarten so when she was that's day's "Special Helper", instead of clapping as we were to do, I boo'd her like she was King Kong Bundy (same size). I had to go up to her and apologize.

24 years out of High School, she's finally skinny and posts glamour shots on FB.

Did some searching through Observers and found these:

11/25/91: "There was serious consideration given last week to putting the WCW belt on Rick Steiner at the Clash. Apparently Lex Luger’s contract (running from March-to-March) specifies a certain number of live dates and he’d been booked so heavily over the first eight months of the year that at his present pace, whatever the number is, he’d reach it just about by the end of the year. So in order to keep him working the major towns until the new fiscal year of the contract, Luger is being pulled from all smaller shows. I’m not sure if this relates to that same clause, or the clause regarding his contract being valid only for the U.S. and Canada (which allowed him to skip the March show at the Tokyo Egg Dome because his contract didn’t specifically cover Japan), but he also refused to work the England tour since it wasn’t covered by his contract and there was heat regarding that."

12/2/91: "Nearly an ultimate disaster on Monday as Lex Luger quit the promotion as a protest because WCW fired Harley Race. The last word I heard is that everything has been worked out, although Luger did miss the 11/25 television tapings in Macon, GA because it wasn’t resolved in time."

12/9/91: "Still not certain what the status is regarding Harley Race stemming from last week’s news. Race was given notice, as was every manager except Paul E. Dangerously, Madusa (who doubles as a wrestler) and Teddy Long (who won’t be managing anyone but since he’s still under contract, they’ll use him on television but he won’t be traveling). Over the past week I’ve been told every story under the sun regarding Race’s future, from everything is staying the way it was before he was given notice and he’ll work full-time to he’ll just work television and not work road shows anymore. Lex Luger is clearly staying (he’s under contract for a long time) and will be working the England tour as well. Luger’s quitting last week, apparently because of the decision to drop Race, lasted maybe an hour or two"

12/16/91: "Harley Race is staying although he may be pulled from Lex Luger. Race will manage Vader & Mr. Hughes who will work a January program with Rick & Scott Steiner. Also, expect some Luger vs. Scott Steiner matches in early 1992."

1/6/92: "Lex Luger has the entire month of January off, including the Clash at this point, with the exception of the Tokyo Dome show on Saturday afternoon...There is an awful lot of speculation that Luger won’t be around much longer but it’s hard to imagine anyone walking out on that kind of a contract."

1/10/92: "Lex Luger officially gave notice to WCW that he’d be finishing up on the 2/29 PPV show. Luger’s three-year contract with WCW expires in March of 1993, but he’s expected to be given a limited release which would allow him to wrestle during the final year of his contract in Japan (which he may not even choose to do), but not in the United States, which would legally put a block on his going to the WWF until the spring of ’93. Luger isn’t scheduled to work any house shows or television tapings for the remainder of this month. I don’t have details on February scheduling although it was expected Luger wouldn’t work any house shows except Milwaukee, but would work some television tapings for shows that would air prior to the pay-per-view. This leads to the rumor (which was emphatically denied by Vince McMahon) that Luger was quitting his contract estimated at $600,000 per year in base salary and $25,000 per pay-per-view event to join the World Bodybuilding Federation for one year, and then have a wrestling angle shot and segue into the WWF. The most reliable story seems to be that Luger, who apparently has saved his money and certainly has made his money, is simply taking a year off to open up a new gym (one equipment company has confirmed to us that Luger is purchasing new equipment for a new gym), attempt to market and merchandise himself and tend to his family. If Luger, who is said not to enjoy either the lifestyle (because it makes it difficult to pursue his main hobby, bodybuilding because of the problem following a strict diet on the road, traveling interfering with training time and bumps keeping him from training at 100 percent efficiency) or wrestling itself and was said to be only doing it because he was making good money from the start, does want to return, he may be able to strike himself an excellent deal in 1993. Clearly, the WWF needs a top babyface to carry the load and Hogan’s days seem to be numbered working even the partial schedule he does now. Neither Randy Savage or Roddy Piper will be the replacements both because of age and size. While The Undertaker is young enough and his long-term future, strange as it sounds, is as a face, he’s not the type to be the promotional flagship. Putting Bret Hart in the role would require a major change in promotional conception that just isn’t coming, and he’s been in the middle so long that it would be an exceedingly hard sell building the company around him. Sid the Second Coming has enough strikes against him that even though he’s the front-runner, there have to be major qualms. A turned Ric Flair isn’t a long-term answer, and probably not short-term either. Actually of the names on the current roster, Curt Hennig comes the closest to fitting the bill for talent, look, charisma and he’s young enough (he’s now 33) for a long run. But the ring name Mr. Perfect as a babyface world champion in a merchandise company doesn’t fit, and he’s also had a history of both knee and back problems. By March 1993, Luger, who wouldn’t be stale because he’d be off television for one year, would look awfully good."

1/27/92: "Lex Luger has pretty well been confirmed as joining the WBF by several sources. Apparently they’ll be running an angle with Luger entering a bodybuilding contest and will get blown away by the big bodybuilding names, lose his temper and somehow segue that into becoming a wrestler. Using Luger is as much an attempt to get wrestling fans interested in bodybuilding as anything else."

EDIT:
Putting Bret Hart in the role would require a major change in promotional conception that just isn’t coming, and he’s been in the middle so long that it would be an exceedingly hard sell building the company around him.

Watching SuperBrawl 94. Michael Hayes had given notice the previous month that he was leaving. He and Garvin would soon go to Global to reform the Freebirds with Gordy.

Yet after Garvin's match with Badd, Hayes and Garvin beat down Badd and leave him laying. So they knew Hayes and Garvin were gone and they still had them beat down Badd?!?!

Has to be another "because WCW" answer I guess.

WCW Vault uploaded SuperBrawl 94 this morning.
That six man went shorter than I expected/remembered.

The main event is a cluster fuck. The crowd heat wasn't really there for Flair being murdered by Vader and Race while Steamboat and Arn try to break in while Boss is cuffed to the cage.
Steamboat and Arn both have to pretend climbing a cage with and inward sloping top is somehow an impossible thought
Flair no sells the 2 on 1 beating after a few mins and makes his own save like he's Hogan.
Then the camera/director misses Boss breaking the cuffs.
Bossman hits Vader's legs with the nightstick and Flair botches the figure four before locking it on and getting the Boss' fake submission by Vader.

Luger's deal there is kind of like the Sting 96 situation where they have him working all kinds of TV matches on all the shows and suddenly he's out of dates and it leads to the happy benefit of Crow Sting's arch.

Did they just assume Sting would be willing to take paydays to keep working?

With Sting in '96, it was a combination of running out of dates while nursing injuries. Once they realized they can get a big money match for his eventual return, they played the long game (and ultimately ruined it).

On top of that, they did an angle leading up to the show where Bockwinkel announced that the cage match was postponed until April due to Flair's injuries at the hands of Vader at the Clash. WCW then sent faxes to 23 media outlets informing them that Flair-Vader was off the PPV and the six-man was the new main event. This was all storyline and the match was never actually in jeopardy. They didn't announce that the title match was back on until eight days before Superbrawl.

JCP really wasted their brief moment with the original Freebirds. They debut on JCP TV June 6 and are put set up to face the Horsemen 24 hours later. HOT SHOT booking.

Omni 7,000 fans
NWA World Champion Ric Flair, Lex Luger, & Tully Blanchard defeated Michael Hayes, Terry Gordy, & Buddy Roberts at 17:25 when Flair pinned Roberts after JJ Dillon hit Roberts with his shoe

Then they spent the next month back in the UWF until the Bash series when they made some more shots to face Paul Jones Army.

The end of July has a "Matches you didn't think happened":
NWA Tag Team Champions Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson, Michael Hayes & Terry Gordy fought NWA US Tag Team Champions Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane, Big Bubba, & Black Bart to a double count-out; both Jim Cornette & Skandar Akbar were suspended in a cage above the ring for the bout
