Got it this morning, and its awesome, best Madden in a long long while. Gameplay is a lot smoother and the menus are a lot more steamlined.

Word of caution: Online Franchise has to be 'unlocked' with a code on the back of your manual (or purchased via xbl marketplace) so no love for the pre-owned crew or the download pirates.

Not that I'd probably do online franchise mode, but this trend EA has of denying features to people who buy used worries me.

There's loads of microtransactions available for franchise too, like little booster packs (which I don't see the point of). None of the UK (PAL) versions of the game have the required code to 'unlock' Online Franchise printed on the back of the manual, so there's going to be a shit storm brewed up this weekend over here!

I'm still up for doing a TSM dynasty. Packers all the way!
Don't think so, Matt.

Also, I call dibs on the Packers.

That's bullshit. My post was deleted- the one where I suggested the league in the first place, and claimed the Packers. That was before you ever posted in the thread. The whole thing was my idea. O even ran the one last year that few people played in.

The Packers are taken.

Also, the Gamespot review is up.

I'm pretty sure Leo doesn't have it. You and I should play sometime, though.

While i'll get the Wii version (& have my own dynasty!...if it's even possible on wii) the best way you guys should do it is getting the teams but having a draft. Draft franchises were always the most fun with my housemates.

Will we even have online play? I haven't read a single thing about online play. That may have been sacrificed for other "features".

Also, you have to unlock Franchise and Superstar modes, I believe...

I could probably live without the online play. But if Franchise mode has to be unlocked, like something harder than basic training/ create a player, i'll be pissed. Franchise was going to be my whole weekend.

EDIT: Oh wow, I just read a review for madden 10 and I don't think i;ll like it at all. Infact from reading the review it's everything I hate about Wii madden pushed to the forefront. I might just try to find a copy of Madden'09 on the cheap or just hijack my brothersXbox 360 & join everyone else on the Online Franchise.

It's out, someone hre must have it. So I ask, does superstar mode let you be a kicker or a punter yet?

the code for unlocking Franchise/Superstar/Situation modes is THEWORKS.

I like the point and click passing...only been playing about 15 minutes or so now, just trying to get a feel for the menus, options, brief taste of the game play. The graphics really aren't that bad...sure it's not super detailed like the 360/PS3, but they're pretty good. They're what you would expect, maybe a little better, certainly not worse.

Ick...you can't create a player or edit player's appearances...das not cool...unless that's an unlockable thing too, but I doubt it.

I've played 1 game and I like it better than Madden 09 already- and I thought 09 was the best of the series. I'll need to play more than just 1 game (lost on All-Pro 17-10) to compare. Fight for the fumble is indeed executed horribly. If you're not on it in a split second, it's impossible to win.

I'll be starting my Packers franchise soon. In Superstar mode, I made a QB and got drafted by the Houston Texans. I've already played through the preseason.

Yeah, looking at some of the gameplay features online: I like the fact that there is a division actually making a fresh wii game with new features, rather than just a ps2 port with waggle controls. In saying that 99% of the reason I play madden is for the franchise mode. While the game play on the next gen consoles (360/ps3) was dogshit compared to old madden, it looks like they sorted alot of their shit out, and went to a more similar playing style /play calling to the older madden games, and away from that almost resi 4 over the shoulder style of play. And at least now when i'll play my friends they'll have to guess 1 of 3 plays I'm going for over the exact play!

That and borrowing my bro's xbox will give me an excuse to get resi 5 and finally play it.

EDIT: PS3 madden would probably be most ideal, as I wasted last summer playing madden with my housemates like 10hours a day & I'm used to the PS pad, but fuck it, I dont have the money to waste on frivilous shit like that. It's jsut a shame there's not a pc version anymore, as I recently bought a decent pc & I could have just used the 360 controller with it.

I've got it, but now I have to work out how I tripped the circuit breaker so I can be sure it won't happen again.

Huh what, oldskool?

Has anyone else found All-Pro to be really hard at times? I used the custom difficulty Madden IQ thing last year, but I've been losing on All-Pro this year. So much for achievements, for now.

Also, anyone up for online co-op sometime? 75 gamer points for completing a game on All-Pro and 50 for a successful lateral to your human teammate.

Somehow in the middle of a Madden Moment I tripped the circuit breaker for the entire top floor of the house.

I think 2 air conditioners tried to come on at the same time & it tripped the breaker.

If no one else commits to it, I'll probably do it. If I counted correctly, there's four people, including myself, in the thread who said they were interested.

Apparently from a few stimulated drafts it was rather close to accurate but there were some mind boggling picks as well. Of course for the most part it seems the problem is fixed for the first year. I guess I'll get it and just hold onto the hope that the mind boggling picks can at least be rather explainable and passable.

One of the early general consensus is don't bother importing a draft class. The ratings are just too high in comparison to the players in the game and it does more harm than good. Which doesn't bother me so much since I didn't get the new NCAA (I already have an NCAA football game, no need for a new one yet)

I love the game this year.

The realistic running lanes, the gang tackles, fighting for yardage and fumbles, more accurate pass routes and punishing bad throws is making me appreciate it even more.

I'm glad they slowed the game down and made it more realistic.

I know I'm using the Bills but man does my o-line ever suck. Minimum 4 sacks by the comp each game. It's also a joke how shoddy the defense is as well. Madden has never been this frustrating for me.

What difficulty are you playing on? I'm using the custom Madden IQ difficulty (at like 600 or so right now) and the Bills D is kicking ass for me.

Am I the only one who kind of likes the accelerated clock? If you're trying to score some points in the last two minutes, it's actually kind of a challenge when you're forced to go no huddle as much as possible, and timeouts are actually valuable. In previous games, if you knew the exact play you wanted, you could pick it and only lose about 5 seconds.

You're already losing enough plays per game going only 5 minute quarters, so going with the accelerated clock just kills even more.

True, but I'm talking about in general, not for the online franchise with 5 minute quarters.

I guess you can disregard that, then. In all of my final two minute drives, I guess I've been just going no huddle or using timeouts too much to notice that the acceleration wasn't on.

I'm on All-Pro. I'm pretty bad at defense but the computer used to pick up the slack and that's certainly not the case this time.

Best new feature for me was the rebalancing of stats.

When there's a 90+ speed person on the field, he actually feels like he's flying down the field.

I really enjoy outsmarting the defense just like I would in real life. After handing the ball off for inside smashes a bunch of times, late in the first half I go to the I formation and pitch the ball outside; defense crashed in assuming inside run and it was a monster play.
(In contrast, I'd been playing NCAA 07 before getting Madden; all it took for a big pitch play was a formation with no WRs on that side, half the time the defense would shift the corner to the other side of the field & slide the LBs over. Fast HB = TD virtually every time.)

Next game did the same thing, but went playaction instead; corner on Steve Smith took a couple steps back towards the line of scrimmage and 75 yards later Smith had a touchdown.

Starting to get pissed at how I can't see the edges of the screen when I pass though. The "wide" camera angle is drawn way too far back to be useful, so I have to choose between blind WR screen passes or rolling out of the newly-formed pocket and risking a clubberindeybeclubberin from the defense.
