I was reading an article saying the Cubs are the sleeper choice to land Ohtani and there have been rumors of trading for Juan Soto.

I think it's quite possible the Brewers are on the verge of a major sell-off. Their manager absconds. Corbin Burnes is about to become very expensive and Devin Williams, Willy Adames, Adrian Houser and Brandon Woodruff are entering their last year of arbitration.

And they kneecap their biggest division rival. Just a masterful, ruthless move from Cubs management.

My only disagreement with you is that Milwaukee kinda capped their own knees. They have no interest in a World Series. The Cubs have quite recently shown that's a goal they seek (and have achieved). Counsell got paid and went to a team that will try to get to (another) WS. Good for him, good for the Cubs.

I think you'll be proven right about that. I mean, they already showed their true intentions last year when they traded Hader in order to save a few dollars and miss the playoffs entirely. I expect them to trade at least one of the players you listed. And they won't retain any of them after 2024 if they make it that far.

Yeah Counsell got paid. He's going to be making 8 million a year for five years which is the highest contract for a manager in MLB history.

It indicates that Ricketts is going to spend and maybe even go in the tax if necessary. Get cooking Jed Hoyer, I'm ready to buckle up.

He’s absolutely right. Stick with the farm and don’t sign big names, please.

Bah looks like it was taken down or deleted. Basically this guy says not to sign Ohtani because he doesn't want to watch another Sammy Sosa type of player, and that Ohtani doesn't have the winning culture of Jon Lester or Dansby Swanson. Dude was killer in the World Baseball Classic and won the Japan series in 2016. There's more baseball besides MLB. If you have a chance to sign one of the 5 best players in baseball, you take it regardless.

And, Sammy is still one of my favorite athletes ever and watching him as a child was a blast even on bad teams.

Can’t upset the winning culture of the *checks notes* Chicago Cubs.

I do think there are legit logistical concerns with Ohtani. You’ve got a full time DH who in his good years is half to 3/4 of an ace. Next year he won’t pitch and next big injury probably takes him off the mound for good. You really need to build the team around Ohtani to suit the situation.

That is the big reason why I am not super psyched at prospect of Red Sox signing him. Like I’ll be really excited if I find out he really is into New Balance and idea of hanging out and working with Yoshida for two thirds of the year but cautiously so!

Oh, it can go wrong. I'm just tired of the loser mentality in Chicago sports, especially with The Bulls. And even with the Cubs as there's a portion of the fanbase mad that David Ross isn't managing anymore, and saying don't spend money just sign Justin Turner and a couple of pitchers. If you got a chance to sign a guy like Ohtani, you do it. At least from my perspective. I wanted Bryce Harper really bad in 2018 or 19 when he was a free agent, and I kept reading posts on reddit about how he's too hurt and not worth the money. I'd gladly sign Harper at this point and he's still producing at a high level.

Wow, his commentary was probably the best thing the White Sox had going for them since he's been there. He did some Bulls games filling in for Adam Amin, and he's a fantastic announcer. I'm loving it because I remember all the Sox fans gloating when Len Kaspar left the Cubs to do White Sox radio broadcasts.

I'm reading some White Sox fans' thoughts, and I guess Reinsdorf gave him a really terrible lowball offer, and walked to the rival for more money. Reinsdorf gonna Reinsdorf.

According to Yahoo! Japan, the DeNA Baystars of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball have approved the posting of left-hander Shota Imanaga this offseason. He'll be 30 years old but has been pretty dominant over the last 3 years: 2.83, 2.04, and 2.66 ERA in 150-160 IP with a growing strikeout rate from 140 to 151 to 188 (in 159 IP last year).
