MLB approved the Athletics' relocation. Baseball appears all but dead in Oakland.

Curious what the timeline is on this. They can't do three lame duck years in Oakland. Will they occupy the current AAA park?

If the San Francisco Giants voted for this crap then they should host the As for some dates while the ballpark gets built.

Times like this make it real tough to be an MLB fan.

Who says they need an actual home? Just play all 162 games on the road!

Or send them to Omaha, their ballpark has 24k capacity which is about 20k more than Oakland is getting right now. They can work around the College World Series.

This is from Bruce LeVine who is a Cubs insider. Battle lines are drawn 909.

I read that Yu Darvish has been in Shohei's ear and is telling him how great Chicago is. Yu really loved the Cubs organization, fans, and city when he was here. I remember him being crushed when he was traded. He also talked to Seiya Suzuki before he signed and was telling Kodai Senga how great Chicago was, but Senga chose the Mets, since at the time they seemed like a bigger contender. I'm hoping Darvish tells Ohtani about how well he was treated by Dodgers fans after the 2017 World Series.

Also read that the Cubs are interested in Shota Imanaga. There's already interest in Yoshinobu Yamamoto, so Cubs are going all in to get the Japanese market. I read The Ricketts want to make the Marquee Network a huge deal in Japan. They are also interested in trading for Corbin Burnes, but no way does the Brewers agree with that after The Cubs poached Counsell.

Two pitchers have pitched enough innings to qualify for the ERA title each of the last seven seasons. Nola and Gerrit Cole.

Looks like my worst fear is happening, and Cubs seem to be out on top free agents/trade guys (Soto, Bellinger, Ohtani, Yamamoto), and are gonna settle for Rhys Hopkins and Tyler Glasnow. If that's the case, then the only upgrade we would've made is at manager. Maybe I need to force myself to get into Hockey and enjoy Conor Bedard, because Chicago Sports is the dregs.

The Padres traded Trent Grisham as well. Grisham played four seasons with the Padres, his 464 games in center field is second most in franchise history behind Steve Finley (583). I will never understand the Padres' refusal to stick with a center fielder long term.

The amount of press this has gotten locally is pretty wild. Also Rogers is ditching their horrible NHL rights package that bleeds a half billion a year, so they're going to look to put a lot of that investment back into the Jays in a variety of ways. That's why they've been pushing so hard for Ohtani. If they sign him, he will be the centrepiece of a lot of it.

At first I was shocked that the Jays were even in the conversation, but after I read more about it, it makes total sense. I still won't celebrate until it's official, but it would be pretty cool for the Jays to have a global superstar like that.

I'm not believing any reports unless they are from Ken Rosenthal or Jeff Passan at this point. Most of the other reporters are all over the place and I think it's because Ohtani and his camp are extremely tight lipped and secretive. Still holding onto my one percent chance of hope.

Now we have Toronto reporters lecturing us on believing rumours online when it mostly started in good fun (someone posting that there was a private jet on the way from Anaheim to Toronto) and then Jon Morosi (who Sportsnet regularly has on Blue Jays telecasts and other programming) said Ohtani was on his way to Toronto.

I never really believed the people saying there was a press conference scheduled for 6:00, but when there's been rumblings for weeks that the Jays are interested and have a legit shot at signing him and then someone who Blue Jays fans have seen on TV presented as a legit MLB insider says he's coming to town, fans are going to get excited.

All things considered, ten years is about what length contract I would’ve expected. Money is insane but it’s just money. The Dodgers made $580 million in 2022. That’s the kind of money in sports.

passan says a lot of the money is deferred to help with luxury tax considerations. But can teams even do that? I assumed those were calculated based on total contract value to keep teams from cheating the system.
