Hopefully, he actually has some sway and isn’t just some empty figurehead like Billy Beane currently has in Oakland.

The A's signed Alex Wood and traded for Ross Stribling to shore up their rotation. It's a start. If you combined them last year they form one pitcher with a 5-10 record and 4.82 ERA in 186.2 IP. That would've been the second best pitcher in their rotation last year.

Guardians management basically said "We know we could use some power in the offense but let's see how the young guys play out."

Unless one of them busts out 40 homers out of nowhere, it's going to be a long season.

I believe that for five of those teams (Anaheim, LA, Oakland, SF, San Diego) the closest Waffle House is the same one.

Former Mets GM Billy Eppler has been suspended from baseball for 1 year after "misuse" of the injured list last season (and in 2022). The Mets organization was not punished by the league.

It's amazing to me that a team would take a relocation vote four years before they were prepared to relocate. That's the type of thing most teams hold off on until about six minutes before they plan to move.

A good read about the impact of last year's rule changes on MLB statistics: https://nowtakingthefield.substack.com/p/the-impact-of-the-2023-rule-changes

"In 2023, the average length of a MLB game was only 2 hours and 42 minutes (or 2 hours, 39 minutes if considering only nine-inning games). The last time we saw average game times that short was in the mid-1980s."

"The overall 2023 MLB average came in at .248, five points higher than in 2022 and the highest since the .252 overall average in 2019. If batting averages stay at .248 or rise further in subsequent seasons, then a good case could be made that the rule changes have curbed the several decade slide from the high range of .265-.271 that we saw from 1993-2000."

"The SB per team per game rate jumped from 0.51 to 0.72, the highest since 1997. That is still below the modern-era high of 0.85 in 1987, and far from the running-centered game of the dead-ball era over 100 years ago—but it is an impressive jump nonetheless.

All but 8 teams in 2022 had under 100 SB—in 2023 it was almost the inverse as only 9 teams failed to get over 100 steals."
