We watched "Chairman of the Board" w/ Carrot Top for our movie day.
Apparently the top exec at Tristar thought Carrot Top had potential to be a tentpole star and "the next Jim Carrey"
Disney writers scripted this for Pauly Shore before the rights were bought.
It feels like they were swinging for the Sandler man child audience, but most of the "jokes" would have landed better for a kids audience. (Lots of fart jokes). Top is scripted to pretty much be a moron who happens to have an ingenious streak for goofy inventions.
And if the kids are watching for the bright colors and fast paced "wacky" prop jokes, then they toss in bits of Top testing condoms by banging the bosses daughter and other adult themes to make sure the parents shut this off.
His friends are basically stoner types, which feels left over from the Pauly Shore script.
Carrot Top's Rube Goldberg devices fit his stand up, but also makes a lot of this feel like we are in Pee Wee's Playhouse.
I did laugh at the opening bit where we see Carrot Top in the womb, looking at a picture of his dad, which is a cartoon sperm framed. Best womb related bit since The Dictator.

I don’t have the tolerance for Wes Anderson. I feel like he writes his films surrounded by Victorian dolls, and throws out his ideas. “What if one of their quirks was they walk a mouse on a leash, and the mouse is wearing yellow boots, and a shirt that says ‘cool cat’ on it? What? No objections? It’s in the movie!”

Abigale and her family fall victim to a ruthless gang while making their way across the Oregon Trail. As the only survivor, she will do whatever it takes to retrieve her one earthly possession, her family's horse, from the clutches of the bloodthirsty bandits. The cast includes Zoé De Grand'Maison, Nicholas Logan, Olivia Applegate, Michael Abbott Jr., Jessica Frances Dukes with Clé Bennett and Sam Trammell. Michael Patrick Jann directs. Organ Trail opens in select theatres April 14 and is available on Digital May 12, 2023.
This actually sounds like something in my wheel house.

Real-life brothers Dennis Quaid and Randy Quaid were considered for the roles of Raymond Babbitt and Charles Babbitt.[9] Agents at CAA sent the script to Dustin Hoffman and Bill Murray, envisioning Murray in the title role and Hoffman in the role eventually portrayed by Cruise
From Rain Man's wiki.

What a wildly different movie Rain Man would have been with Cousin Eddie trying to be nuanced.

Murray could probably pull off Charlie Babbit, but you would think his name would lead to more script tinkering for more snark and comedic elements.

I know people change and stuff when they get older but Sean Astin looked and sounded *so* different when he was a kid

Randy Quaid was nominated for an Oscar for The Last Detail. Believe it or not, there was a time he was a credible actor. Actually he was doing legit dramatic stuff well into the ‘00s.

When a father and daughter learn that they’ve each secretly been working as CIA Operatives for years, they realize their entire relationship has been a lie and they truly don’t know one another at all. Forced to team up as partners, our series tackles universal family dynamics set against a global backdrop of spies, fantastic action, and humor. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Monica Barbaro, and Jay Baruchel lead the cast of the action-comedy series FUBAR, which launches on Netflix on May 25, 2023.

AHNOLD and Sly both doing streaming series feels so weird to me.

Neither are exactly marquee headliners these days. Gotta make that money where you can.
See, I'm very old for my age. When I get asked about new movies my go to response is "Is John Wayne in it?" "Clint Eastwood?" "Arnold?" "Stallone?" Then no.
I might perk up a little for Christian Bale or Hugh Jackman.
I mostly ignore movies now and just watch endless WW2 docs and true crime stuff.

- Burton wanted Sammy Davis Jr to play Beetlejuice?!!?!

- "The Studio" wanted the dancing dinner scene cut and apparently Tim Burton didn't feel it was funny either...
-
Dustin Hoffman, Robin Williams, Christopher Lloyd, Jim Carrey, Tim Curry, Jack Nicholson, Bill Murray, Robert DeNiro and John Cleese were all considered to play Betelgeuse.
Seems Murray is attached to just about every movie you look up in the 80s
Of that pile, Hoffman and DeNiro are the ones I have the hardest time picturing as the evil ghost role.

- At one point, Tim Burton considered Arnold Schwarzenegger for the role of Betelgeuse. However, The Geffen Company felt that due to Schwarzenegger's reputation at the time as an action star, people wouldn't take it seriously. But Burton approached Schwarzenegger anyway. He turned it down, as he was busy shooting The Running Man (1987).

During the scene in the graveyard after the Maitlands leave when Beetlejuice gets mad and kicks the tree, originally the tree was not supposed to fall. But during that take, Michael Keaton kicks the tree, and it falls to which he ad-libs the line, "Nice fucking model!" and squeezes his crotch twice which is accompanied by honking noises. Keaton says that to the set designer who messed up. Director Tim Burton loved it so much that he left the blooper in the film.
