Also finally got comfortable enough in terms of being able to run the Triple Option more in line like NCAA '11 although not as cheesy.

Skill Level: Varsity [Gets rid of the CBs/OLBs screaming towards the ball carrier on all running plays regardless of defense called. Forces them to "play" more naturally and allows for the outside pitch to be a legitimate option again]
Quarter Length: 7 [I usually get 150+ in a "bad" game and 300-350+ rushing in a "great" game]
Game Speed: Very Slow
Speed Threshold: 0
RB Ability: 60 [Lets RBs play a bit more to their abilities e.g. Speed or Trucking]
RB Blocking: 65 [Bare minimum I go. Just enough to make big runs possible but if you make the wrong read/decision, the play gets blown up for -1 to 3 yards only]

Played Madden '12 demo last night. Looked really cool, absolutely beautiful in it's presentation in fact.

....and then I played it.

It is probably too early to make a final judgement but this feels like an arcade game again. The mechanics make it feel like you are ice skating on the field, or at least gliding, as opposed to running. This seems to kick in especially when running end zone to end zone either in pursuit of a ball carrier or on offense trying to elude defenders.

Game is pissing me off so bad.

I was up by four points on the #4 team in the nation with 1 second left on the clock and they threw a Hail Mary pass to win the game. Furious I turned it off before it saved and played again. This time the CPU was in the lead and OF COURSE my QB threw an INT in the fourth quarter to ice it. I'm an ass about losing like that so I turned it off again.

Next day I played, and that fucker tied it up on the last play of the 4th quarter AGAIN! Luckily it went to OT and somehow or another their QB fumbled on a sack and my DB ran it back for a TD to win.

Next game against unranked FIU, I DID win, after LOTS of struggle

After turning the speed to the slowest setting, and putting the threshold to about 20, I found the game to be much better, and less 'arcade'. While I appreciate a bunch of the new tackle animations, it gets a little annoying when the runner often picks up an automatic 3+ yards after contact. I don't think the runner should be stopped dead in his tracks on every tackle, but this seems to happen too frequently.

Overall, I do like the game, so far. When it comes out, I'm sure I'll be able to adjust the sliders and settings enough to not mind a lot of these issues.

Played the demo twice. Found myself being tackled by getting just shoved sideways way too often, usually when running the ball. I played on Pro difficulty and still managed to get two safeties on Cutler without moving sliders. When I played as the Bears, I found it almost unrealistically difficult to move the ball through the air, relying on Forte to net any significant gains. Then again, this is Cutler against the Pack D, so I should have expected it. Destroyed the Bears as the Pack, 44-7 (the 7 came from a 79 yard Cutler run though, which hurt my pride quite a bit) and then eeked out a 23-21 victory against the Pack thanks to FGs. Speaking of, I wasn't much a fan of the kicking meter, but I found myself getting more comfy with it by the end of the second game.

L2 really does feel like a finesse throw. Animates like it too. I actually completed a streak route in stride with L2, for god's sake, that's got to mean something.

Probably means you completed a good pass.

Saints, unfortunately all Verts + Streaks right now have a 90% chance of succeeding. So, if the computer did that, well... You have all rights. It works both ways though, so you could just shell the defense for it all the time.

I should know, I tried it one game. It was quite blatant how well it works.

I'm torn on whether L2 works or not... On some pass plays it looked like there was a little more arc trajectory but on other pass plays, I had the same animations that I had if I had not done the L2 trigger.

Yeah, it's sad. 3rd and long means nothing right now. Just throw a deep streak and first and ten or more. Still two more weeks until the patch too.

I find it amazingly stupid that it takes nearly a month for that to be patched. I expect that from a MMO, not a freaking console game.

Hell, the MMOs sometimes patch within a week. Its stupid how we've gotta wait. I hope the other half of what needs to be patched, gets dealt with when the tuner comes out then as well. I'm at least assuming it will.

I don't remember, did they say this patch would fix the custom conferences fuck up where the schedules wouldn't be balanced?
And I just realized, the patch will NOT deal with the deep streak issue. That either fixes with the tuner or not at all. Who knew safeties in college football were incredible stupid and linebackers could jump four yards into the air?

Been re-playing NCAA '11 and it's overall a ton smoother (in part due to having all the patches/tuner updates). One thing I did notice is that the blocking outside is much better since the WRs actually maintain their blocks and can be relied upon. Hopefully Patch 2.0 can fix that enough in NCAA '12 to make the Triple Option viable towards the outside pitching wise.

Another fun tactic I stumbled upon was being able to take it up with the QB and pitching off the CB who fought out of his block. In NCAA '11 the reaction time is less so I could get bigger runs whereas in NCAA '12 the pitch is kinda fucked up (my HB kept reaching "up" to snare the pitch thus slowing his momentum and allowing the LB to scoop around and tackle him after just 4-5 yards forward).

You'll have to wait until at least 8/30 it seems for the next patch to come out.

This was by far the feature I was most looking forward to. Wanted to do either a late 80's set up when you had the likes of Penn State and Florida State as independents or a try a soccer style relegation type set up with the ESS EEE SEE as the Premier League of course. But I had a hunch they'd completely forget to make sure to have the schedule adjust to your changes. Maybe that will be a "new" feature in NCAA 13.

Oh well at least I have Andrew Luck, I mean Stanford QB #12, in beast mode to play with.

Played a couple more games on Madden at Pro Difficulty... Reportedly the demo is from a build in May.

Both games were blowouts (I played one game each as Packers and then Bears).
- The running game is really smooth and even better, is pretty realistic in terms of YPC as well. Seems like it should be good to go right out of the box.
- Pass rush is still a bit heavy on both sides. The time in the pocket may need to go up by a half second or full second (e.g. 3.0-3.5 seconds) to allow deeper routes to properly develop.
- The defense is opportunistic and will go for fumbles/go for INTs. Playing as GB, Clay Matthews had a pick in the flat (on a superman leap though, blech but did snag at the high point) and AJ Hawk had a pick on an overthrow down the middle. On the flipside, I had Greg Jennings make a 1 handed catch against my Bears only to get drilled allowing for Danieal Manning to recover the fumble. Bonus was that Jennings was also injured on the play.

Hopefully the game won't need too much tweaking even on lower difficulties like Pro.

Played the Madden demo a few days ago. First time I played a football game since the PS2 days. The presentation was fantastic. Looks and feels like an NFL game. I found the running animation seemed really floaty. Almost seemed like the players were skating at times. Perhaps the running is too fluid for its own good.

2012 Madden Playbooks already out at http://www.primamadden.com upon signing up.

Just looking through the Miami Dolphins PB
- Miami Dolphins Only Plays: 11 Passes

Not sure how many were in Madden 11 but that seems like a lot, which is always nice to see. If playbooks get pared down, I'd rather they add team specific plays instead.

The Buffalo Bills PB is also prime for an Air Raid style offense. Shit load of Mesh variants alone, nevermind various drag routes.

I changed my mind, I'm out. You guys can have your NCAAs and your Maddens, I'm gonna get the best football game of the year, and I'm pretty sure it's already out now!

I really am loving the Sub feature and have been having fun rolling with a 3 RBBC on Green Bay (Grant as the Single Back, Starks as the Bruiser in I Formation, and Jackson in the passing sets).

Should allow for much, much more interesting free agency (especially if we set up an Online League) since now teams can actually utilize players to their strengths. Need a blocking TE for GL and Tight formations? Sign him and then use the Sub packages!

All I want from free agent bidding is that if you bid more than the other team, you know you did, AND you actually get the player. This seems fun.

Also, the Patriots had the craziest screen driven playbook last year. Should be interesting now that playbooks have been overhauled.

The Patriots PB this year...
1: Features a lot of motion by the slot WR in I Form TE Flip and I Form Tight Pair
2: For Screens: HB Slip Screen (x11), PA Flanker Screen, WR Screen, WR Screens, Slot Screen, Pats Slot Screen, Flanker Screen, Pats HB Screen, Strong PA Screen, Pats PA Flanker Screen, Bubble Screen (x2), and PA TE Screen [23 Screen Plays!]
3: Ton of Y/Slot related pass plays. No wonder Welker gets so many catches during the year... it seems like 20-25% of the PB is designed with targeting him in mind.

I finally played the Madden 12 demo today. It sucks that they've made all these upgrades to franchise mode because the in-game play fucking sucks. I've only bought 2 of the last 5 Maddens (09 and 10) and I felt it was too arcadey then, now it's just a straight-up cartoon in how it plays. It's almost like a simulation version of Blitz at this point. Maybe I just have to get used to how things are and maybe it's just how the demo played, but it was not quite as fun as I remembered it being.

Ok, custom conferences is actually workable. BUT I discovered what causes the unbalance schedule glitch and it makes 100%. If the conference is unbalanced (like say 7 on one side and 6 on the other) AND if you turn on protected rivals and overload one team ( like say Florida has 3 protected conference rivalry games) it fucks up. If you keep things balanced and let it work out the games, it comes out even.

So custom is kind of broke but only if you confuse it with those things.
