I haven't played Madden since 07. Have I missed anything?

I'm going to play with the original rosters, but try to make as many of the players be FAs as possible and see what exactly happens when the game has that many FAs to deal with. I'll probably break it, but it'll be glorious.

With crossed fingers, I'm hoping to get it this afternoon later or evening if the shipping goes well as Sudbury is only 30-35 minutes away from where it's been shipped to currently.

Would anyone be up for doing an online franchise? I know we're kinda split half and half on systems, so we'll need a strong commitment by either group to make sure everyone would join.

So that would be 2 for a PS3 league. I think we'd at least need 10 before we'd start it.

On the plus side, I read somewhere that Gus Johnson's "He's got running away from the cops speed!" line is in, but I have yet to really break any big runs to hear it.

Success, got to hear it after blocking a field goal and returning it for the TD. Unfortunately, it's annoying to see that they still haven't fixed instant replays, which often begin about midway through plays. In this case, when I'm already breaking away.

Also was disappointed to see that apparently Madden Moments are limited to the five 'best of 2010' that are included, and otherwise they'll be adding them during this upcoming season. Funny that the manual uses the disclaimer that if there's no season because of the lockout, there won't be any Madden Moments.

So from what I have read Madden '12 has been getting lukewarm reviews. Basically saying "It's Madden so it is good enough, but lacking any WOW factors that people hope for in the new version every year"

This is the first year since 2000, that I didn't get it opening day. I don't have the spare change at the moment to get all the games I want (a ton are coming out in 2011 from here on out). I decided to go with DEAD ISLAND opening day unless it gets horrible reviews, then I may roll over and go get Madden 12 instead.

I'll concur with HQ's sentiments about the feeling with Madden. Just modify the sliders a bit on the default settings, and it'll feel extremely comfortable. Is the gameplay really going to blow you away? Nope. But its a solid football game.

The announcing sucks though. Quite a shame.

Finally got it! Rolling with a Washington Redskins franchise on All-Pro with Very Fast and 0 Speed Threshold. Also tweaked Pass Block (55), Broken Tackles (60), Rush Defense (40), and Kickoff Power (65).

Early thoughts...

01: Annoyed that the main screen in Franchise is always the Next Game screen. Made even more annoying when it goes back to that after every thing you do (FA, Release Guys, etc.)

02: Amazed I never gave "Very Fast" a try before. Looks a ton like a real NFL game in terms of speed, reaction time, etc. Passing is still doable but you have to take what the D gives you.

03: May need to tweak my sliders some. Playing on 9 minute quarters but have been killing the NYG 17-0 at the half even on All-Pro.

Yup. Has Ochocinco and Haynesworth on the Pats, Olsen on the Panthers and more.

BTW, they've got a thing to lower the reaction times of the Pass Defense and Rush Defense of the computer. All I did was modify those and it made a HUGE difference. I dropped it from 50 to 40 for both and some of those odd bullshit plays went bye bye. I'm trying to mess with the fatigue and injuries to see if I can make it a little more realistic.

Broke down and bout Madden after taking the year off last year. Just because of the Goddamned Shout song.

I can't do that, fixing sliders and stuff. Not because I feel like it's cheating, but because it makes you feel like the computer won. That's why, no matter how fucked up and convoluted games could be, I'll always play All-Madden as it is and just GRIND IT OUT.

Just did a fantasy draft as the Seattle Seahawks for Franchise Mode. Nothing will ever be as much fun as being Pete Carroll and honing in on as many USC players as possible. Wherever else, I just grabbed younger Pac-10 players.

USC players grabbed: QB Matt Leinart, QB Matt Cassel, RB Stafon Johnson, FB Mike Williams (converted from WR), WR Joe McKnight (converted from RB), WR Steve Smith, WR Dwayne Jarrett, WR Ronald Johnson, TE Fred Davis, G Nick Howell, C Ryan Kalil, DT Fili Moala, FS Cary Harris, and K David Buehler

I was a stickler about this too, until I could make the game play in such a way that it doesn't feel broken, nor do I feel like I'm being cheated, and also if I lose, I can't blame it on the stupidity that EA has with AI somedays.

I did something similar, by being the Buffalo Bills owner and being cheap as fuck, and I traded all my good players on the Bills for low rated rookies and nabbed whatever B potential scrub rookies that were cut by teams. Tyrelle Pryor, Jerrod Johnson or Josh Portis will lead my offense to glory! I also saved 90 million in cap space!

I'm also tempted to transfer Shane Vereen to WR and have him at 5'8 and myself at 5'11 and have the smallest starting WR tandem in the NFL. Its sad though that my 3rd or 4th rated HB, is my second best WR.

I play on slow with threshold at 0, very fast seemed way to arcadey for me, and the animations looked like crap.

I also play with 12 minute quarters in franchise since you can't change the accelerated clock runoff in franchise which is retarded.

I don't like playing on Slow and the "arcadey" feel is far more reminiscent of the real NFL. If you watch a TD run on Youtube, it's far faster than what you get playing on Slow or Very Slow. May try out Fast just to see what the difference is.

I've found playing on 9 minute quarters I got good game stats for my team but need to tweak the Sliders a bit as I was dominating my opponents production wise (like they were struggling to get over 100+ passing and 30+ rushing). May boost the quarter length up to 11-12 minutes though.

Slider Testing - Practice Mode. May Vary in Games. All-Pro Fast w/0 Speed Threshold

Numbers should be for both User and CPU.

QB Accuracy (Tom Brady): 42
Pass Blocking (Pats OL vs Colts DL): 80 (Really doesn't matter. You usually get 3 seconds, 4+ if you can move around in the pocket)
WR Catching (Wes Welker): 20

Rushing Broken Tackles: 100 (I saw guys like Sammy Morris and Woodhead use stiff arms more on CPU control)
Run Blocking: 45 (You have a 2-3 second window where the blocker will stay on their defender. If you try to freelance, you'll meet defenders so hit the holes)
Fumbles: 50

Pass D Reaction Time (Brady vs Colts Pass D): 30 (Players can get hurt on double moves and only react once a player's caught the ball)
Interceptions: 50
Pass Rushing (Colts DL vs Pats OL): 40

Rush D Reaction Time: 40 (Lets CPU "react" to pass first and then play run D. Safeties drop back first and D reacts when player starts running with ball)
Block Shedding: 20 (It makes power running doable but shotgun runs are still risky due to development time)
Tackling: 25 (Defenders won't be able to make tackles from the side and need to be head on. Power Backs can run through "arm" tackles fairly easily)

How is franchise? Same ol' same ol'?

Kinda.

- Scouting = Meh (I've gotten to the point where I let the CPU do it).
- Sim Stats = Somewhat wonky as usual... fucking EA hates simmers.
- Cut Days = I just go by OVR so it doesn't matter a whole lot. The fun is grabbing other guys cut.
- FA = Can be a dull aspect. Having to "wait" out the 1:30 - 4:00(!) clock is annoying as hell at times, especially when you're signing 10-15 players. I do love the contract concept and deciding between front loaded, even, or back loaded when it comes to the Salary Cap.

RAD. I'm trying to decide between Madden or a fallen-off-the-truck jersey. I'll probably hold off til next paycheck but I am tempted.

Yeah...

Example: Sign a 33 year old DE who can still go to a 3 year deal. So do you make it $1.5 Million, $1.0 Million, and $500K Cap Hit wise in hopes that he plays well the first 2 seasons and you can cut him easily later or switch it to the opposite just in case he struggles (which can bite you if he plays solid through the first 2 years and you're suddenly faced with a $1.5 Million cap hit if you decide to cut him at age 36 to make room for the rookie).

Whelp, my team of rookies has so far proven to be far more resilient than I expected. I'm surprisingly 3-1. Seems like rookies are able to perform. If it wasn't for my defense keeping everything in front of the first down line though, I'd probably be 0-4 right now. I'm just getting a little worried about the injuries, because I don't have a lot of depth on the team, since this season must be all rookies.

I'm waiting for the 53 man rosters to be finalized and updated in the game before starting up a franchise. Anyone have any idea when that's happening?

It's happening right now. I think by at least tomorrow or Tuesday it should be more clear cut.

On another note, I picked up NCAA Football 12 for the PS3 today, so if any of you PS3 guys want to get down on some online play, I'm down to play.
