As soon as I saw the ads for that documentary, I knew that was "her shocking deathbed confession". Her story kind of reminds me of Linda Lovelace's. It seems like both changed their story so many times RE: how they felt about the reason for their fame that it's hard to know what to really believe they felt.

Honestly, call me crazy but I think it's more upsetting if she sold out her believes than if she actually converted to being a pro life whackjob.

I don't know the best place to put this but https://www.theverge.com/2020/7/15/...eets-shut-off-verified-accounts?ICID=ref_fark

tons of big accoutns on twitter got hacked and they shut down a lot of the verified accounts for a long time. If they were posting on thosea ccounts they almost certainly got access to all their DM's too. I'd imagine at least some of those people (elon musk) are dumb enough to have some pretty good shit in there.

As a result, Gunter wanted the State Department to obtain special permission from the Icelandic government for him to have a firearm. They say he also wanted door-to-door armored car service, and entertained the idea of wearing a "stab-proof vest."

all the stories in the article about this guy are nuts. Shocked trump didn't give him a bigger job.

I'm calling bullshit on that study. They seem to release a variation of it every year to get publicity (about different countries) "X's don't know about the holocaust!" and always with a small sample size and a lot of dramatic statements. I find it highly unlikely and it seems more likely its just a good way to stir up controversy and get some fundraising done.

Hmmmmm... 'Merica is pretty dumb. Just this week I was talking to a coworker who I consider fairly smart and she had never heard of the Bataan Death March. (My great uncle was a POW).

I think the fact that it's >30 year olds makes it slightly more plausible. All of the news articles seem to imply two thirds of Americans in general. And there's no way that number is correct if we're including Boomers, Xers, Millennials. I feel like besides the GD American Revolution, Holocaust was one thing we covered semi in depth in history classes in school.

Not until/unless she decides to run in another state. You can't get elected to dogcatcher as a Republican in Hawaii.

I think I have it rough at my WFH job occasionally but at least I don't have to pay thousands of dollars to be there!

lol we changed to that in the 90's or something here. It is completely meaningless. There's no reason for anyone to get upset.

I mean, if the curriculum is going to continue to be shit, does it really matter if you can't "fail" anybody? We allow kids to graduate high school without a basic understanding of financial acuity, without an understanding of basic civics, with no real reconciliation of our history of chattel slavery in this country, and with a completely ahistorical understanding of Reconstruction and post-Reconstruction America... what difference does it make if you can't give a student an "F," in light of all that?

And as the article makes clear the students CAN still receive a failing final grade. The language is just changing. The old letter grading system was always a bit silly tbh.

That's why I put "fail" in scare quotes: I don't actually believe that you can't fail a student, just because you can't give out an "F" letter grade.
