Hope that KENTA-Ibushi match silences some of the people that acted like KENTA was too old and broken down in WWE. There some fun matchups to be had and that shows, beyond how good Ibushi is, KENTA still has something to give.

I thought Kelly and Romero did a fantastic job and I have zero complaints about them. They were much better than Excalibur at explaining the backgrounds of the wrestlers and why you should care about the guys that aren't well known.

Rocky is a natural there. Hard to believe that last year was the first time he did commentating. He was a little rough his first night, but picked it up fast. Kevin Kelly knows how to get the best out of the people working with him, except for Lanny, who was dreadful. What I love about Rocky is that while he'll put over the other Chaos guys, he's also a fan of other guys. He loves ZSJ and Taka and talks about it all the time. His hate for BUSHI is a great bit, too.

Akiyama is out as AJPW President. The Owner is taking over. This never ends well for AJPW. Akiyama over the last 5 years got the company back on its feet and turned it into a really great product but they've gone as far as they can as regards business. There's only so much you can do without major tv or the money to bring in bigger names, etc. From a booking perspective Akiyama was probably the best in the business the last several years.

Enjoying G1 so far. I'm seeing the Meltzerites complaining about KENTA and Taichi but I'm enjoying both of those guys. Taichi doing his scummy Kawada wannabe stuff is fun and him bringing back Iizuka's IRON MITTEN is fantastic. KENTA has worked at the same pace since like 2008 so the complaining I've seen is funny.

Moxley/Cobb was different than what you usually get with a lot of smart armwork that led right into spots and not really centered around big bumps and it was a nice change of pace. The finish felt a bit out of nowhere but I like the idea that if he hits anykind of ddt it's over. Moxley also is great at framing "big" moments in matches. Like the moment where he and Cobb came back down the ramp on either side just staring at each other was something you know they planned out.

Ishii/White was fantastic and White has grown so much.

I'm one day behind and I'm catching up on yesterday's show. Mox and his son Shota might be the greatest thing ever. I love everything about that. And if AEW actually was working with NJPW, it'd be a perfect place for him to go on excursion to, but alas.

Taichi has started to grow on me since his feud with Ishii over the Never title. Actually since Iizuka retired he seems to have taken a little bit from Iizuka and it's been very good. I don't mind him here.

Night 2 was the night of upsets, and I loved everything about it. Doing that, and doing it the right way, makes the tournament exciting.

CWM, regarding Jay White, you mentioned in the MOTY thread, about him getting better over the past year. I agree 100% with you. It's like once he joined BC, he was able to find that character he's been looking for. He's much more comfortable in the role, and I think working with Gedo has helped so much for him.

Behind on G1 (just watching the Axs stuff) but I have to echo the Jay White praise. In the last three or four months, something really clicked with him and he's being a great heel instead of just acting like a great heel, if that makes sense.

Completely agree. Something turned around G1 Supercard time with him. I always felt that too...that he was on his way to being a more well rounded heel but it took some time since I think he was put into a position he obviously at first wasnt ready for (main event heel from the repackaging almost immediately). That said, he's really gotten to where he needs to be now and his look is also much more credible as a main event heel.

In fact, I think the match with him and Ishii was the best match so far in G1.

I might be behind but nothing will touch Archer vs Fale in my eyes.

I don't know how long they've had english commentary or if this is a first time but people should check this show out when it happens. Some really good looking matches and them having Ultimo back is fucking craaazy.

There's a lot of guys hurting this year (Tana, Ospreay, Naito, etc) but it's been a solid tourny and Night 6 was great. Moxley/Ishii was everything I was hoping for. Naito and Goto stepped up despite Naito being in not his best shape. Juice/Cobb and Shingo/Taichi were both really good. Best that Taichi has looked in the tourny.

Moxley backstage was great "My wife is going to be so mad at me...it was all Ishii's fault, he started the whole thing anyway!". His ending promo in ring was also really great and the crowd was eating it up. If he sticks around and they keep pushing him he's gonna be a mega-star.

I'll be watching that show tomorrow as I have to catch up on yesterday's show. I've heard nothing but amazing things about Ishii/Mox, but I'm not surprised. Mox has killed it in NJPW so far, and Ishii is the type of guy that if someone doesn't have a good to great match with him, it's on his opponent. He's that good.

I keep saying that I want to see Moxley stay in NJPW instead of going to AEW. I've loved him so much so far. Kidnapping Shota has been so fun, and I think if NJPW and AEW were working together, Shota having an excursion to AEW would have been perfect. His promos have been incredibly entertaining, and his work is so crisp and just feels new.

Watching whatever G1 part aired on AXS yesterday now. That countout in the ZSJ-Fale match was the best use of countdown I've seen in New Japan with the 20 count and the best use of countdown I've seen in general in a very long time.

I haven't watched that show yet, but in the BOSJ there was one done in YOH vs Kanemaro that was perfect. They were brawling on the outside and the count was coming. Both guys ran to the ring, but Kanemaro threw Tsuji into YOH at 18 and he couldn't get back into the ring in time.

That one sounds pretty cool but I really liked this one. Make sure to post your thoughts once you see the match since you will have seen both.

7/21 Dragon Gate: Tribe Vanguard (YAMATO & KAI) (c) vs MaxiMuM (Naruki Doi & Kaito Ishida) vs R.E.D (Eita & Big R Shimizu)

Twin Gate as usual delivers.

I got around to watching Moxley-Ishii and........

Stone Pitbull is like my favorite dude in NJPW currently, it was Naito for a bit but I digress......

I didn't like the match as much as a lot of people did. I was seeing/hearing MOTY hype and I didn't get that at all watching it. It was an ok match, but tbh disapointing given the hype. That's kind of why I like to watch things fresh and cold without expectations. My expectation was it would be a fun match, and it was, but it's nothing I'd rate as special

Also, I saw way too much of WWE Ambrose from Moxley in the match. Telegraphing reversal spots in particular. If he wants to be crazy Terry Funk or Brody in Japan.....it's a high bar and god bless him, but this match did not live up to me expectations.....which is a bummer....but maybe my expectations were unrealistic

Very cool that people in NYC get to see one of these without trash ROH matches. It’s awesome.

Epic didn’t even have time to fake buy a ticket this time and claim that he’s going.

Looking at Twitter it seems that they disabled the print-at-home option to prevent scalping. Awesome!

I don't know if it's for everyone, but I checked my tickets on the Ticketmaster app on my phone. The Sell and Transfer buttons have been disabled. This could be huge as a way to stop scalping.
