Lirl they just dropped the tickets randomly tonight without saying anything and all the seats I woulda bought are gone. I will absolutely not get a standing room ticket, so now I'm not going.

https://411mania.com/wrestling/njpw-had-most-successful-financial-year-in-history-with-50-million-gross/

best year ever (i'd love to know what kind of numbers the inoki years in the 80-90's did and the breakdowns). Profits were down because they've been investing more in expansion and video game content (etc) but revenue was up, live attendance was up, etc. Overall more than 10% revenue growth and they're hoping for 12% next year.

An average ticket price of $53 is damn good. I'm willing to bet that's almost double what WWE and most other companies get. The Japanese economy was booming in the 80s but companies like AJPW were still strong and probably bit into their numbers.

I went to the first show of NJPW's Fall US tour at the beautiful Lowell Memorial Auditorium in scenic Lowell, Massachusetts last night. God damn. That was easily in Top 5 maybe Top 3 best shows I've ever been to and probably the best house show I've ever been too. Just a spectacular card that was masterfully paced and the way the action escalated throughout the night was frankly beautiful.

The crowd was super hot throughout the night and I was amused how for the most part, kind of behaved like a Japanese wrestling audience with very limited dumb chants. Just perfect. It wasn't totally sold out but I'd say it was 90% full. Having been to 3 or 4 NJPW/ROH supershows, the difference in the level of efforts between those and this was night and day. It was crazy seeing Naito actually trying for one. It was really close to maximum effort for most of the guys and way better than a WWE house show level of effort.

I loved the gaijin special guest stars that they brought in (well, except TJP). The Rock N Roll Express were probably most over act of the night besides Okada and Tanahashi. They had an extremely fun comedy match with Chase Owens & Jado (who is somehow 10x more washed than Ricky & Robert despite being 10-15 years younger). But Jado did the funniest Flair flop I've ever seen. He just winced and shuffled around like an old man who had eaten some bad clams for like a minute before falling on his face.

I liked or loved every match on the card. Main event was a six man tag that had Okada, Tanahashi, and Kota Ibushi Vs Naito, Sanada, and Evil that was probably MOTN. A very solid 20-25 minute six man tag. I went to the bathrooms but I overheard one of the babyfaces screaming on the mic about how excited he was to eat at Taco Bell after the show during the postmatch babyfaces speech. Also I ran back in time to see Tanahashi gave us THREE air guitar solos.

NJPW Tag Team Titles match between Roppongi 3K Vs GoD and Tomohiro Ishii & Amazing Red Vs Shingo Takagi and BUSHI were close runner ups. I also personally loved Lance Archer Vs Ren Narita. Just a really great big man/plucky rookie babyface match. I really hope Lance Archer resigns with NJPW cause I think he could be a great midcard heel for them for the next few years and I don't think any other promotion come close to utilizing him better.

Really solidified my opinion that NJPW is, far and away, still the best promotion in the world in 2019. Even their B level effort blows away most A shows.

I wonder who called in the ambulance company. ROH? WWE? An AEW stan?

I'll type up a review of the show later as I'm on my iPad, but apparently Matt Koon, who was at the show, met up with an unnamed NJPW wrestler after the show. He said the wrestler was so apologetic, and mentioned that they (the NJPW wrestlers and higher ups) have an idea who made the call. The wrestler didn't give a name, but speculation has been made that it was someone within ROH.

ROH makes most sense to me. Hammerstein Ballroom is small beans for WWE and AEW. And if WWE wanted to fuck someone over there, they would've done it for the gazillion wrestling shows in the past 15 years.

ROH should worry more about the fact that they played to a 2/3rds empty, 1,000 seat venue last night when they sold most of the tickets at $13 a pop on Groupon. I bet Limitless Wrestling drew a better gate for their last show.

That was a complete garbage bush league cheap shot and I'm afraid this is far from the last we've seen of these type of moves.

It seems weird for ROH to be doing it. I'd want to know why the person did it. Are they upset that NJPW soldout Hammerstein, when ROH couldn't sell 300 tickets the last time they were there? ROH's new world champion is a guy CMLL just fired, and they are using Dragon Lee, who was just fired, too. CMLL has a relationship with ROH (for now), and NJPW.

The idea that someone called the ambulance corp means that it was someone who knew exactly who to call. That would mean someone had to either do some research, or they dealt with them in the past. I'm ROH is upset that Juice pulled out of their shitting Lifeblood team, and NJPW hasn't sent anyone over since then, that I can remember, outside of GOD, who had to defend the ROH tag titles. We can pray that this is the end for that relationship.

I rarely post IG stuff because the captions don’t come over but Jay White posted a photo of him looking suspicious saying it was him after calling the limo company

I rarely speak poorly of current NJPW mostly cause it's rarely bad but I watched the chopped up AXS TV broadcast of Destruction in Kagoshima and holy crap, that KENTA Vs Kota Ibushi match was hot garbage. I've heard a lot of wise acres in the IWC talk about how washed KENTA was and yeah, it's obvious from the 3 or 4 matches I've seen since he's clearly lost a few. But man, this match. Hooooo. *plugs nose and waves hand over it* It takes a lot to get a bad match out of Kota Ibushi in the year of our lord 2019 but my man KENTA managed to do it.

Weird as hell cause their first match in Dallas was pretty dang good.

This was like one of those '92-'94 Macho Man Randy Savage Coliseum Video matches where the heel beat him up for 90% of the match and then Savage hit a quick comeback except it was almost 30 god damn minutes long.

Saw something this morning indicating Suzuki is finishing with NJPW. The report states he probably would have been done already if not for the Liger angle. The same source rumored he is most likely to go to NOAH.

I know he likes this country so AEW please...

Don't tease me like that. I don't know how excited I got when they teased Suzuki-Moxley for NJPW already. He could fill a monster-void that I can't think of anyone on that roster having right now and my body is ready

I've seen Suzuki work everyone in AEW (except Mox) that I want him to see him work a bunch already. Now if HHH wants to pull a desperation play and have Suzuki-gun invade NXT...

Not really feeling Suzuki in NOAH again either tbh. His last run there probably did more harm than good although I enjoyed it and its probably too soon to go back to him there. AJPW would be great though. MiSu Vs Kento would be HUGE

Liger is god. Ospreay/Phantasmo was kickout overkill but was fun. Archer/Juice was a lot of setting up stuff in the ring to break and nowhere near as good as the Mox match would have been but I get they didn't have time to plan and it was still fun. Glad to see Lance get a chance. Haven't seen the last two matches but I know the results (and would without having been spoiled really). YOUR DAY WILL COME SANADA.

Also lol Naito is Taichi's bitch-boy.

Really weird to strip Moxley for missing one show. I'm guessing they know they won't be able to use him much because of AEW so this was a good excuse as any.

I'm assuming he was already gonna job to Juice, who was gonna job to Archer so they decided to cut out the middleman.

It sounds like Mox will be back for the occasional guest appearance, at least. I hope we get him Vs Lance Archer. I think it'd be fun to see two crazy bastards like them butting horns.

It's how they've always done things. If someone can't make a defense, they are stripped. Makabe was stripped of the NEVER Open title when he had the flu the same day as a show. Chono was stripped of the tag titles when his father died and he was going to miss the show. NJPW feels if they advertised a title match, the fans are going to get a title match.

Yeah this wasn't because of AEW. Mox has said he intends to do more NJPW in a bunch of interviews. If you look at NJPW title histories this happens although not often.
