Besides it's also assuming that Douglas made a lot of money in his career. I think he probably did the absolute best in the last WCW run but I'm not sure even that was the best. ECW I assume he got wildly fucked over to varying degrees over the years. WWF and WCW were dogshit during his runs. Hell he probably made more at Target than as a teacher.

People don't, or didn't, seem to realize how easy it is to burn through money just by existing. It's fucking scary.

Douglas always fancied himself as a top guy so when people saw he was working retail and not at the top of the cards like his contemporaries or people he publicly shat on (Flair) most just thought it was karma coming back to bite him. Can't hate him for making an honest living but it must have been a bitter pill for him to swallow

He also knew he burned bridges harshly too. I remember the stories of early in his TNA stint where he'd just stay in his car before shows because he was afraid his rep would ruin probably his last major run.

I agree that money wise, his WCW stint from '99-'01 likely netted him the most coin. I doubt even top guy in prime ECW in '97-'98 paid more.
