Atlus announced that they're going to begin work shortly on a new installment to the Persona series. Such a title would likely be the only game able to drive me to buy a PS3.

They did? I was looking for info yesterday while looking up stuff for the new SMT DS game and didn't see anything. Persona 5 would probably be the only thing to get me to buy a PS3 as well.

Just an FYI, Persona 5 hasn't been *confirmed* to be on PS3.

Now, granted, it may be a long shot for this one to be on PS2 (P4 was already rather shocking), but the announcement was made in a magazine called "Dengeki PlayStation". That leaves open the possibility of at least PS2, PSP, or PS3.

Well yeah, it hasnt been confirmed, but I would be surprised if it wasnt. I'd love it if it were on PS2 again (I dont have any of the next-gen system yet anyways) but I doubt it.

I mean the one with the drums and mic. I can get one for World Tour and Band Hero, but I own World Tour and I'm not a girl.

Did they release Guitar Hero 5 as a band bundle? I can't find one anywhere.

I don't think they did a band box for that one. I only remember the game release and like YNA mentioned, the guitar and game set.

I've heard nothing but good about Demon Souls on PS3, check it out.

Does anyone else find old video game sounds (Atari and Intellivision) nerve racking? I was playing some Yar's Revenge and I tend to get chills hearing those weird noises after awhile.

Yeah, a few of my friends attested to being big fans of the game - but they also made sure to point out how brutally unforgiving it is. If/when I get a PS3 I'll probably pick it up.

If you watch almost any TV show with someone playing video games in it, though, they'll all too often use those sorts of sound fx, even if it's a Playstation or Xbox 360 or some other fairly modern console. :p

They sure will. I was very happy when Big Bang Theory used the correct pause sound effect and real level music when Sheldon was playing Mario 64.

Of course, there's a trope for that!

That show apparently has younger/geekier writers, so it makes sense.

Shaun of the Dead has Ed and Shaun playing Timesplitters 2, and who can forget Tekken 3 in Spaced?

EDIT: listed under exceptions in that page:

In Spaced Tim is clearly shown playing Resident Evil 2. Actual footage of the game is shown, he holds the controller normally, and actual sound effects and music from the game is used. The RPD lobby music from the game is even used for that episode's title sequence. In the commentary, Simon Pegg, who played Tim, says that he was actually playing the game even when the camera didn't show the screen, because he and director Edgar Wright were sick of the above trope. He also plays many other games, including Tekken 2, Time Crisis, and Tomb Raider, which sometimes intrude into the 'real' world.

* In a display of doing the research, when Daisy said something while Tim was playing, Tim pressed the pause button before turning to speak to her.
o Simon also missed his lines quite few times because he got too engrossed in the game.
o Also, Daisy has a go at Tekken one of episodes. She is convincing as a non/infrequent gamer who, in willing the character to obey her commands, embellishes each button-press by shouting "Kick!" and jerking the controller to the side.

Ugh... Rapelay is in the news again and everyone's complaining.

Shut the fuck up already about it. God dammit.

Never heard of it. Fill me in?

I remember one of the Charlie's Angels films featuring a towel-wearing Drew Barrymore running up to a patio door where 2 kids are fighting it out in a rousing game of Final Fantasy 8.

In the movie Juice (the one starring Omar Epps and 2pac), one of the main characters challenges kids in a local convenience store to games of the original Street Fighter for money. The CPU characters are shown as playable characters.

It's a Japanese (shocking I know) game where you rape women. One of a million probably, but last year some people got up in a tizzy about it and got it banned from a bunch of stores or something. Now a year later someone who missed last years tizzy is upset about it and wants it and games like it to be banned from being made. While I have no interest in RapeLay, all people accomplish by complaining/trying to ban these games is to alert people to their existence and make them popular. See also: Night Trap, a complete piece of shit almost non-game for the SegaCD that I only have played because it was banned from sale at ToysRUs. And it sucks major ass and I wish I hadn't played it, but if it's banned it must be good! And it has Dana Plato!
