Has anyone seen the documentary type series "Rise of the Video Game"? I watched part 2 this afternoon and have part 3 on my DVR (I gather it's from 2007 but they've been airing it Monday mornings on Discovery Civilization in Canada) - it's good and enjoyable to watch, but, and this is not uncommon for these type of deals, in an attempt to cover as much relevant information as possible it often feels like they're skipping a lot and also making factually incorrect statements.

It's minor on the grand scale, but here's an example of timeline / fact problems from part 2:
- When the NES launched, it was bundled with Super Mario Brothers (which after looking into it, I guess that's technically true - it was only test market releases that had ROB and Gyromite as pack-ins - Mario was the nationwide launch pack-in).
- The Genesis launched with Sonic as the pack-in game.
- To go with the above note, Sega did nothing at all after the video game crash meant they couldn't makes games for Atari anymore. The Mega Drive/Genesis was their re-entry into the business (sorry about your luck, Master System).
- There was really no mention of the SNES... it just went "Here comes Nintendo, then in the 90s people wanted more attitude so Sonic took the call, but PlayStation was the real draw"
- If Dan Hsu didn't specifically mention the PS2 in a talking head about GTA, you'd never know it existed (the segment pretty much went "Playstation was a CD based system with more storage and GTA was groundbreaking".

Edit: Are LTTP and LA available via the Wii? I've been thinking about re-buying a Wii and that would definately push the decision.

Link's Awakening is a Game Boy game, and the DX version is a Game Boy Color Enhanced game. No Game Boy, Game Boy Color, or GBA games are available on Virtual Console, unless they were remade as WiiWare titles (i.e. like Toki Tori, which was originally a GBC game).

So don't expect it unless Nintendo ends up implementing "Virtual Portable" as a DSiWare line of titles.

Yeah, because you didn't get Galactic Pinball. I won't lie, though, I've always wanted to play Wario Land VB.

I own the system. Get Mario Tennis too. I could never get too into Mario Clash, but Wario Land is great. And like MDC said get the pinball game.

Sadly the boxing game sucks, and that was the one I was most excited for back when the system came out.

I'm watching Giant Bomb's Endurance Run of Deadly Premonition. This game couldn't possibly have been released two months ago; it looks like something from 2006.

It was announced in 2007, believe it or not.

I finished the game. It's one of the weirdest and most hilarious game experiences I've had in years. It's like the survival horror game equivalent to Sandlot's awesome b-games, i.e. Earth Defense Force and Robotic Alchemic Drive.

Ugh... I've got to restart my Sakura Wars game because I ended up with too many relationship points with Cherion instead of Gemini.

I hate that, because I got her so high in the beginning she became my unofficial girl friend in the game.

I just bought Mario's Tennis, Galactic Pinball, Red Alarm and Teleroboxer. I'll get around to the others some time.

Red Alarm is pretty fun. I know I never beat it, but I remember wasting a lot of time on it.

Teleroboxer is awful. It sounds like something that can't miss - Punch-Out in fuax 3D with VR glasses - but I just recall the control being too unresponsive to do anything except watch your opponent kick your ass.

I think I'm going to watch the AVGN VB episode when I get home from work.

I pretty much got all of the virtual boy fill I'll ever need from playing Wario Land on an emulator and (of course) watching the AVGN video.

Virtual Boy is so gimmicky, so poorly designed, so fundamentally awful it could be a Sega product.

I learned recently that Jack Bros is a Megami Tensai spin-off game. In fact, it was the first Megaten game to be released in the United States; meaning Atlus wasn't terribly interested in making those games successful here, at least at first.

Final Fight Double Impact - anyone download it? Good times! I forgot how crazy-fun Magic Sword is, too.

I played the demo. I'll pick it up, but I'll wait for it to go on sale when MS realizes that not everyone is so love with Game Room that they need it poorly copied everywhere.

Also, attaching two five dollar games to each other for ten bucks is marketing genius. This is why I drink whiskey and vodka simultaneously; because I can't fucking wait another second to switch between the two.

Its kinda sad that there are no beat'em ups anymore because they have some great games in the genre. Also, its a shame that Haggar doesn't get into the Street Fighter series, since Cody and Guy did.

Full ESPN presentation in NCAA football 2011.

They keep slowly but surely leaking details about the new game... July can't come soon enough. It's pretty much the number one online game I play with all my friends. Our last online dynasty lasted 11 seasons.

This year they are adding the Pro-Tak from the Madden engine and all of the TV shit... if they don't ruin recruiting somehow this is going to be glorious.

There are still beat 'em ups. They've just turned into things like Dynasty Warriors (on the not so great end) and Arkham Asylum (on the much better end).

They've also been absorbed into other genres, like God of War. However, I feel that more advanced games scratch that itch for me better, like Bayonetta.

The last really simple beat 'em up style game that I played that was just damn fun to beat the hell out of baddies in was Spider-Man: Web of Shadows. Too bad it's also one of the glitchiest ****ing games I've ever played.

Also, it's Magic Sword, you damn Philistines. You aren't flinging fireballs from your sword and teaming with a sweet ass ninja as Mickey Mouse.
