I watcehd the new AVGN about Action 52 (which is almost 27 minutes long) and while it looked really awful, I'll give them credit for at least designing 52 semi-unique different looking games. I remember playing some multicarts that people bought at flea markets (or somewhere, who knows) that advertised anywhere between 40 to 200 games. Said 200 games was about 50 different versions of Super Mario Brothers that were given different names but no real differences, some really awful wrestling game (which looking back, may have been the MUSCLE game), and things like that. Just a bunch of hacks of the same games repeated.

Deadly Premonition is a good game....sort of. It's a weird mix of "This is cool" and "wtf were they thinking with this"; namely the driving is hair-trigger sensitive (seriously the best handling vehicle I've found thus far will swerve from one side of the road clean off the other side if I so much as brush the thumbstick to the left) and I have a strong dislike for the Other World segments, if only because the Regular World is so much more interesting. The characters are so intriguing I hate going to the Other World where they all disappear and are replaced with the Raincoat Killer and some like, zombie things that I spray bullets into until they die.

"F...K...in the coffee!" remains hilarious, and there are several other "wtf lol" segments, and I'm only just halfway through it.

Yeah, Giant Bomb's Endurance Run of it Led me to put it in my GameFly queue. I'll probably get it after I send back Bayonetta.

While I'm thinking of it, it could really use a map upgrade. It's true to the small towns with really large areas of nothing between populated areas, but since I can't find a waypoint option and you can't zoom the map out it's nigh impossible to find your way to anything you aren't relatively nearby.

Get used to repeating to yourself things like "take the second right, then turn left on the big road, and then take that to the bridge" because if you try to bring up the map every time you'll just get more & more confused as it rotates as your character rotates so what used to be up & right is now to your left.

EDIT: It's sad because I absolutely love the game, the characters are top-notch, the funny bits are hilarious, the attention to detail is above-average, but the parts that suck really suck.
It's like a bowl of ice cream with little capsules of dog shit in it; the ice cream is great but every so often you crack open a dog shit pill and that shit starts spreading all over the ice cream...but the ice cream is so good you eat the shit-laden ice cream and you eat it as fast as you can so that you can get back to the delicious ice cream before it's all ruined.

I've got two games like the Action 52. The 190 and 666 games in 1 for the NES with the Honey Bee attachment so that they'll play. Some of the games are just awful, and many of them are repeats of games already on the cart, but they're kinda cool just to have. I had Action 52 before and sold it when times got tough. Wanted to keep it for collection's sake, but I needed the cash.

I remember seeing it advertised in a gamepro or something for $99. My parents wouldn't bite, and it's probably for the better that they didn't.

I found the first (new) issue of EGM at Target today. The format has changed a bit, but it's good to have it back.

I've beaten the game. You'll enjoy the game way more if you get a) the radio, which lets you teleport around the map, and b) the infinite ammo weapons. I use the infinite ammo machine gun myself most of the time, but the flamethrower is handy for wall-crawlers too.

A list of all the sidequests, BTW..

Some problems I seem people often have with the game is managing time. Some sidequests only work when it's raining, etc. Sleeping will allow you to jump ahead to the time you want or pretty close. For shorter spans of time, smoke a cigarette.

How to get the radio:

Clear mission 5, but mission 4 is a prerequisite for it.

Do mission 4 (find Woodman's weight in one of the rooms at the police station...I think it's in the kitchen...and return it to him), and then reload chapter 6 if you already beat it.

If you haven't grabbed the flower that appears when it's raining yet, you'll be able to get it along the way. You should see the mission icon at Woodman's house, and then talk to him twice and you should get it. Naturally you'll have to finish the mission to save the progress, but all you have to do is talk to people (skip the actual convos with start) to finish and save the mission.

On beating darts and getting the weapons bag:

No. 030 Top Rank
Available: 02-04, 06-09, 11-16, 18, 26
Host: Richard Dunn
Location: Swery 65'

Getting the high score is tricky, but here's what I did: you need to break 2017, but if you nail the bull's eye on the last shot, then it nets you 50x10 = 500 points!

So just focus on getting 1517 or better, and that means holding your breath sparingly. Try to line up your reticle over the bulleye, hold your breath and confirm it's lined up, and shoot quickly so that you could stop holding your breath. Every 3rd dart is a bonus opportunity, so go for the inner circle to get number on row x triple x 5, so unless it's a super low number like 2, it's almost always worth it (if 20 or almost 20 is available as a bonus, you can net almost 300 in one shot!).

If you get 1517 or higher before the last few shots...just fire 'em anywhere on the board until you're down to the last one, and make sure you have plenty of leeway on holding your breath for that last shot.

Now you got a weapons bag! :)

How to get the infinite ammo machine gun:

Directly from the link above:

Sidequest #14: Map to Psychic Spot A
Available: 06-09, 11-16, 18, 26
Host: Keith Ingram
Location: Milk Barn
Description: Buy the special map from Keith to start this quest. Then head to Cope's tunnel to the marker there, where you will be teleported to an area filled with other world abominations. Just keep entering the door and kill all abominations in each room till you get a teleport in the middle of the room
Reward: Unlimited ammo Submachine Gun on the table

Once you have the SMG (and naturally, you should quote Die Hard when you do--it's what York would do), you'll mostly be able to breeze through the game, but the wall-crawlers, who I believe appear in chapters 19 or 20, will give you problems. Shotguns work well against them, but the flamethrower will make them really easy to beat.

How to get the flamethrower:

#50: Ghost House Treasure
Available: 08, 09, 11-16, 18, 26
Host: Brian the Insomniac
Location: Brian's House
Description: Go to Brian's house downtown (near the police station), and unlock the entryway to the right of the barbed wire gate to proceed. Once inside, navigate the maze that is his backyard to claim your reward at the end.
Reward: Wesley Special ∞ (flamethrower with infinite ammo)

Check out the link above for the sidequests, and look for other goodies that are helpful too. The item bag is easier to get than the weapons bag and is *really, really* useful as well.

Also, if you like Twin Peaks, you *need* to get this game. It shamelessly rips it off in a lot of ways, but it's amazing all the same. If you like MST3K, I'd recommend you give it a shot, too. The cutscenes and voice acting are LOL hilarious most of the time. The game is loaded with much more intentional humor than people give it credit for. It's amazing.

Plus people who watch the endurance run don't really realize it a lot of the time, but they're rushing through the game and not really drinking in the atmosphere and side missions, which are by far the most entertaining parts of the game.

All in all, It's been one of the most entertaining gaming experiences I've had in years. Once you have those goodies I posted about above, even the combat is pretty much a minor annoyance. Plus none of it is teeth-gratingly irritating (like, say, mining for minerals in Mass Effect 2, which is pretty much one of the worst things in any game ever, and needs to die in a fire).

I finished it off today (well technically I finished the story last night, I left only the epilogue for today because I wasn't paying attention to how much I had left).

Really good game. Ending was kinda out there but it made sense in its own way.

Finished Lunar: Silver Star Harmony last night. Not quite like the Playstation version, but it's good nonetheless. Kinda feels odd playing a Lunar game and having no John Truitt doing the voice acting for Ghaleon.

I don't know if this has been posted around here yet. Sorry if it has been.
Electronic Arts is the king of the sports game market with hot upcoming titles including NCAA Football 11, NHL 11, Madden NFL 11, NBA 11, FIFA 11, and EA Sports MMA. Now it has made a controversial decision concerning all of those titles -- it will lock players who buy used copies out of online multiplayer.

"Online services, features and bonus content" will all be covered by a one time code, that won't work for the new purchaser. EA describes, "You will be unable to play multiplayer online game modes or use your downloaded content in online game modes."

Used purchasers do gain access to a 7 day trial, but they will have to purchase a $10 pass if they want to continue to play online.

Wow. That EA lockout may end up needing its own thread It's pretty extreme but I guess I can see why they will do it. It will force some people into buying it new that wouldn't have but I think it may cause more backlash with people not wanting to buy or rent the games.

Good for me that there is no must have game by EA every year. I usually pick up Madden when it goes on a $40 sale or less.

I am not in the same boat. I have pretty intense dynasty/franchise modes with a large group of my high school friends. Online dynasty has been great in that regard. It also helps keep in touch.

This doesn't effect me really, as we usually all get the two games on release day and go to town... but I still think it's shitty.

Unrelated, I just had my first "ready to throw the controller through the TV" moment in a long long time. Tiamat on Darksiders, if anyone has played it. Fucking thing was so frustrating. Gave up without getting past her... have to give it another shot.

That's quite a fuck you to Gamestop by EA. I'm honestly surprised other companies haven't done this yet.

I've been looking forward to getting Alan Wake tomorrow...and still am...but after reading the glowing reviews for Red Dead Redemption I think Alan Wake will sit on the backburner for a while.

I got Red Dead and Alan Wake both of which I've really been looking forward to more than any game since probably October coming tomorrow as well as the new Prince of Persia because I was able to get it dirt cheap. That, along with the fact I've been trying to work my way through Supreme Commander 2 which I find fun but I am not great at, I'm going to need to find a lot more time for games.

I forgot Red Dead was coming out already until my friend told me he had preordered it. Then the reviews hit today and I'm pretty geeked since it's like I didn't really have to wait for it at all.

I was excited about the new Prince of Persia game until I saw the combat.

Seriously, look at it.

Exclusive Combat Powers Trailer HD - Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands

I suffered through Warrior Within because it was still a good game, plus it and Two Thrones had somewhat improved combat (including the option to avoid a lot of it), but if they're going to flat out turn the game into a bad God of War clone I'm going to pass.

I'm not expecting much from PoP, I think I even heard that it is even shorter than the last one because it is more of a movie-tie in title. I got it dirt cheap and if I can sit down and beat it quick enough, I can probably get more back in trade-in than I spent getting it.

Red Dead I've heard great stuff. Some people said the PS3 is a little glitchy, controls slightly more awkward but I guess there is some extra stuff available for it. Doesn't matter much for me because I usually pick mine up for 360 if it is a multi-platform title.

Anyone who does get Alan Wake on 360, there is a contest I saw on Xbox Live the other day that if you download the free gamer picture and unlock an achievement in the first so long it comes out can win something. I apologize for the horrendous details I've provided but its something out there that is kind of a "what the hell, may as well". Only thing I really remember is it's run by Verizon Wireless but I'm not sure if they have anything to do with whatever the prize is.

Does anyone know why tomorrow is such a huge release date? I mean, I guess its start of the summer season but seems like there is a ton of stuff coming out tomorrow. Off the top of my head they got two big titles coming out in Red Dead and Alan Wake, some games that should wind up fairly popular in Prince of Persia and Split/Second and I know the tie-in game for the new Shrek is coming out which will probably do well enough in the kiddie market. That's 5 pretty solid releases.

Yeah I don't know why this week is so stacked. I figure they were just happy to get Wake out the door finally. But it's like a preChristmas release day tomorrow. Wish they could have just shipped out UFC tomorrow and save me the trip.

I forgot about UFC next week too. That with Mario Galaxy 2 this weekend, I'm gonna be playing more games than I've played in a long time.

Games that weren't finished in time for last holiday season that they can't justify putting 3-4 more months of work into to push it back to the upcoming holiday season, methinks.

No, it isn't.

Everyone seems to be thinking this, which I think it just the history of Ubi's shitty movie licensed games coming back to bite them in the ass.
